Enotel Lido - All Inclusive

Great hotel, rooms were spacious and we had a balcony, had everything you need! Lots of choice at the buffet, highly recommend the Madeira themed restaurant!

We went at the start of September and it was quiet, I can imagine it’s quite busy during high season!

Location was excellent. The staff were exceptional, so friendly and helpful.

Waiting for the lift! We were on the 8th floor which was lovely but the lift could take ages.

The hotel had a great pool(s) and outdoor area. There was always a sun lounge available with easy access down to the ocean front Lido. All parts of the hotel were easily accessible. The bedroom was comfortable and had good bathroom amenities such as his/her sinks and a large shower. It was great to have 4 choices of places to go for dinner, we had no difficulty finding a table and enjoying a good meal. Our room was always cleaned and house keeping were exceptional. The hotel is in a great location and getting into central Funchal was very easy. There is always a taxi nearby if you don’t fancy the bus. There is a bus stop for the airport right outside the hotel which was great. We really enjoyed the eco ethos and the ability to refill bottles of water for your room.

Serving staff could be overbearing, particularly when it came to service of wine and alcohol in the evenings. Unfortunately, staff did not know types of coffee at breakfast time and when we asked for a flat white we were given fruit tea. The staff are very quick to clean plates away but that sometimes makes you feel hurried to finish. The food tasted Ok - we weren’t amazed by the food and it at times felt like the restaurants didn’t know what they wanted to cook or put out. The food didn’t feel like 5* hotel dining. We unfortunately got bad tummies after dining at the Asian themed restaurant on our first night which was a shame. However, we enjoyed the food at the other two. The one thing we disliked the most was the coffee, it was far too bitter and taste like a cheap instant coffee - again not quality you’d expect for a 5* hotel and paying over £1500 for 6 nights. The hair dryer in our room didn’t work and the general aesthetic of the hotel was tired. It needs a good couple of weeks being spruced up - for example some of the signs had film peeling off and no screws. The hot tubs in the spa were luke warm and one of the saunas was out of action which was a shame.

Room was cramped, beds were uncomfortable and worn. Gym was tiny, with lack of equipment. Plates and glasses in the restaurant were dirty and smelt. Restaurant drinks selection was poor and understocked.
