The lap of luxury- private pool under the stars watching fruit bats flying accross the star lit sky. Do the night walk with Mr Bandera- magic! We did 2! I am not into massage but now converted -best massage ever- felt 20 years younger! Our chalet was like something out of Conde Nast- food amazing- try the prawn curry and vegetarian sides

Nothing not to like

The property was incredible. We stayed in a pool villa which was beautiful. The whole property was extremely well kept, beautifully lit at night and felt extremely safe.

The only very tiny thing that I would change about the property is that the polished floors in our villa were very slippery under foot.

The hotel, location and rooms are incredible. Beautifully situated around the lake with an abundance of natural wildlife to see at all times of the day. Dinner menu was equally exceptional.

The breakfast isn’t value for money. Very expensive for the selection. Very few sun beds by the main pool so if you aren’t in luck you’ll need to use the pool at your room or wait until one comes free.

Smooth airport transfer. The driver was helpful and even stopped so we could buy cinnamon along the way. • Beautiful, nature immersive concept. The setting and idea of being surrounded by nature are appealing. • Spacious pool chalet with a forest view. • Hotel arranged excursions were seamless. Sigiriya Rock and elephant safari included direct pickup and refreshments, making everything very easy. • Excellent food throughout the stay. • Restaurant service was excellent with no complaints. • Butler was friendly and helpful when available.

Too much exposure to insects and wildlife in the room, including a bat, frog, spider and cockroach. • Open roof bathroom and shower made it difficult to keep insects and animals out and affected the feeling of cleanliness. • Room maintenance was poor. The toilet flush didn't work, the sink surround was cracked, the sealant was black and deteriorating, and there were damaged walls, towel rails and exposed sockets. • Private pool needed maintenance, with missing flooring around the edges. • Overall room condition didn't match the price or 5 star positioning. • Butler was difficult to find and there was no direct way to contact him. • Spa booking was poorly handled. We were initially told we didn't need to book in advance, then the replacement booking also fell through, with no alternative solution offered. • Cleanliness at the spa was disappointing, with an insect found on a towel. • Patchy service in common areas. It was often difficult to find staff at the pool and library to order drinks. • We were charged for water at breakfast, which felt unnecessary given the room rate.
