Santa Maria Hostel

Great location, clean rooms and bathrooms, very good service provided

Nothing bad to say!

This hostel was extremely clean and honestly one of the cleanest hostels I stayed at during my trip to Portugal. The location is amazing and very close to almost everything. The hostel restaurant is also really good and guests get a 10% discount There is a lovely outdoor seating area which is perfect for relaxing or if you want to smoke. The bathrooms were always very clean and the kitchen has literally everything you could possibly need. They even have a cheese grater 😭 There is also a cold water dispenser in the kitchen which I thought was such a nice little detail What I loved the most was how peaceful it was. It was so quiet that sometimes you would honestly wonder if anyone else was even staying there The photos really don’t do this place justice. It looks so much better in person and has this beautiful old cozy cottage feeling that gives the hostel so much character I really have to compliment them on how clean organized and professionally managed everything is. I had such a comfortable stay and if I ever come back to Madeira I honestly wouldn’t stay anywhere else

The only thing I didn’t like was that the reception isn’t open 24 hours. It didn’t affect me personally because my arrival and departure were during reception hours.

Lovely hostel in a historic building in the heart of the old Funchal - high ceilings and historic details - nice atmosphere

great location, lovely old building, very friendly staff, on a busy street close to shops and restaurants.

kitchen was very small especially when people wanted to sit down and eat. Showers were ok, the shower head had to be held. It was very warm in the bedrooms even with a fan and this was October. It could be unbearably warm in Summer. The street outside was busy but as it was October it was no probem and people were going home about 10pm. In Summer it could be noisy on the street outside and hard to sleep.
