Staff were friendly, welcoming & helpful ( especially when I locked myself out of my bathroom in the depths of the night)! They give excellent walking directions, too.

We wanted an inexpensive place to stay in central Salisbury after a concert. The New Inn fitted the bill perfectly and it was a great bonus to have a place that is as historic and atmospheric as this. Given the atmosphere and facilities the price we paid was fair. As many other reviews have stated, most rooms have private but separate bathrooms and the ceilings are low as befits an antique building. The beam across the corridor between room 2 and the bathroom for room 2 is especially low but that need not be a problem as long as you are not sleepwalking. Our bathroom was better equipped than expected including real soap and toiletries in our assigned bathroom rather than just a dispenser on the wall. The bed could have been more comfy and traffic does rumble past - fine for me as a deep sleeper but could be an issue if you are easily disturbed. Because we were here on a Sunday we could park for free 5 minutes away on Exeter St (free on Sundays but permits only Mon-Sat 8am-6pm). We had to wake up in time to leave (or move the car) by 8am Monday. We could have moved the car to the Old Georges Mall pay car park across the street from the New Inn from 7am when it opens. It closes at night and charges a hefty overnight charge (I can't remember exactly what but somewhere around £30?).

The hotel itself is nice because it's a historic building. The bar, the restaurant and the garden are really pretty. The food at the restaurant is reasonably priced and of good quality. The staff is also very nice and welcoming. We were three: me, my partner, and a friend passing by Salisbury for only a day. The owner kept our bags for several hours at no cost after the checkout, even though the service was neither included nor mentioned. It was very helpful. We are really thankful for this.

We kept our expectations low about the interior design and the structure of the bulding knowing that it was a historical building, we were not expecting anything fancy... I strongly pushed my partner and friend to have a different experience. Unfortunately, despite reviews saying the place was clean, we found the bathrooms at the limit of acceptability. The sink and shower were simply gross. Our door bathroom (n.2) was defective. The room was apparently fine; for sure, it looked cute. I did not investigate the cleanliness to avoid getting even more grossed out. The fact is a bit dark, but it helps. The bathroom is not en suite; the website says the opposite. It's okay, it's a historical building... But at least to prevent customers from feeling uncomfortable, they could provide some slippers, the same way they provide robes (which is nice). The breakfast was nice, but really not enough for 2 people. In a basket in front of our door, we found 2 croissants, only 1 apple juice, and 1 orange. It was a breakfast for 2. The ceiling is really low; my partner is 1.87 (6.14 feet), and he could not stand normally and had to bend his head. This is not necessarily a problem because the structure is old, and having a sense of what an original building is, it's fascinating. I don't know about the safety of the ceiling thought. It was for sure an experience. I want to be even more honest: given the place's particularities, cleanliness needs to be the host's top priority.
