Hotel 54 Barceloneta

Staff was very friendly allowing us to check in early due to long, international journey. Room was a smaller than we're used to to, but cleanliness made up for it (and the beach was close).

Price was a bit steep for the size of the room.

The location was excellent for my purposes. Lots of restaurants around, though the hotel did not have a restaurant, just a bar. The terrace sit-out was a major plus point. Staff were very helpful and attentive. Loved the croissants at breakfast.

The breakfast spread was limited, though the server very kindly offered options for eggs made to order and asked if one needed top-ups for coffee. A bit more variety would have been welcome, but this is not a major complaint. The rooms were relatively small and did not have a work table.

Wonderful convenient location on the marina. Quiet hotel. Within walking distance of main city centre and all attractions. Within 2 minute walk of beach. Plenty of bars/restaurants on the same street. Facilitated a very late arrival (2a.m.)

No tea/coffee making facilities in room. Could get tea from bar and bring to room but there was a charge. Limited toiletries for 2 people. Frosted glass wall between bedroom and bathroom. No insulation so everything could be heard. Clothes closets were at shoulder height so unless you stood on a chair you couldn't reach clothes hangars. Corner of closet was at shoulder height so if you stood up quickly you were in danger of getting a knock from sharp corner. No phone in room to contact reception in case of emergency. You would need to locate the phone number and dial from your own phone and be at the mercy of someone there to answer phone. Staff not inclined to engage in conversation. Engaging in conversation (even if only to ask have you had a good day / did you go anywhere interesting today) makes for a much more personal visit.
