The Stones Hotel

Stayed here for the night before my wedding because it was only 10 minutes from my venue. Large room clean bathroom was incredible. Large bed Gave us a travel cot for my son. Highly recommend

The location was brilliant - in that we were running a golf event across the road the following morning. The welcome from the staff was absolutely brilliant and it was sustained throughout our short (one night) stay. The bedroom was better than OK with a very nice view from the window (to the rear of the hotel). It was of a good size and ticked the boxes as regards hair-drier, kettle (with tea etc), ironing board and iron (albeit we didn`t use them) and lighting. The bed seemed to have a mattrass topper which really helped make a bed that might have been too firm into one that was acceptable for slightly aged bodies (both of us are 65 years young plus). The desk and chair was a plus. And I must return to the staff. They and the food produced, from a relatively limited menu, were A!+++. So huge marks to whoever recruits and to the local management for the morale / enthusiasm and willingness to go the slightly extra mile of the Team at The Stones. The Druids would have been most impressed and happy to stay here!!!

There could have been a second, perhaps slightly more comfy chair / armchair or even a small two seater settee. The room was easily big enough to accommodate same. The menu in the restaurant was fine but not too exciting. And it didn`t offer a small or full English or even a generous Continental option / group of options. Fortunately High Post Golf Club offered a brilliant Small English (Bacon, Sausage, Fried Egg, Hash Brown, Tomato, Beans, Toast) that continued our day perfectly once our 80 Scratch or better golfers had started their day. The lighting was such that it wasn`t easy to have the bathroom accessible during the night whilst not being intrusive (because the bathroom has a glass door). But these were very minor irritants only mentioned because the overall experience with the brilliant staff was spot on.

Lovely big room. Clean sheets and good bed. Nice plugs and side lights. Clean towels. Gym looked good. Nice bar and outdoor space. Food adequate but not like the 5star photos on the website!!!! All the staff were young and really trying their best.

Green limescale on shower base, dripping shower, no plug in sink. Horrendous drain smell, not sure if from outside or from bathroom. No nets on the windows. Poor soundproofing, woke up when the room next door started talking at 6am. Tiny, unmovable TV, as it was in the corner it would have been nice to angle it towards the bed. No air conditioning- just a small fan, lucky it wasn’t hot. Restaurant food was basic, not like the photos, but priced for what it was.
