Food was good
Beach: Beach is full of dark algae and rocks over three kilometers around the hotel, so you won't find here the nice turquoise waters you find on Cancun beaches over the main kukulcan bulevard. You will find hard to win and enjoy the beach. Check images.
Check the satelital image, in the yellow rectangle you will find clean turquoise waters, in the red rectangle where this hotel is located you won't find any nice beach.
AWFUL Customer Service: I received a really poor customer service. You need to leave a USD 300 deposit. When I got to the room I found a note in the kitchen saying that if they found dirty dishes in the sink they will clean them charging automatically USD 75. I asked the guy in the front desk (Jose) if that was a daily charge and he confirmed that, so I asked him to not do any cleaning in the kitchen since I was not authorizing that charge. He replied that those are the club rules so I needed to follow them. Obviously I didn't let them charge me that after talking with the manager the next day. I intended to leave early but the manager declined to process any refund if I didn't stay the whole booked time.
The guy at front desk said several times they were not an hotel but a member club so I need to follow members rules. Why they advertise the facilities as an hotel in booking.com then?
At entrance they also assign you what they call a "concierge" which is a sales person who pretends be there to help you, but chase you all the time to sell you a club membership.

Everything! The staff was so friendly and attentive! They mad accommodations for anything. My son is allergic to gluten and dairy and they always made sure that he could eat the food. The swim up bar was amazing. I never had to wait for a beach chair or a pool side chair. I loved that the snorkeling and kayaking were included! And we added on jet skiing, and it was super simple and honestly not that expensive either! I already want to go back! Everything was super clean and always smelled fresh!
Honestly, nothing! I can’t think of anything negative to say.

The view in the complete hotel is great.
The store in the gotek isn't too expensive.

nothing
We had to stay at this hotel because we lost our flight and I am happy that we only stayed one night. The staff was super rude, the food was very bad and I found hair in all the beds. The hotel is very old and I cannot recommend this hotel and will never stay here again.

Great facilities, cleanliness, food selection, beach valet service. The option to travel via shuttle bus to other Royal properties (Sands) was an added bonus. Shutout to several great staff (beach valets) and La Palama restaurant servers.
Narrow beach, shallow/rocky water, large ships moored nearby.

We decided to stay at the Ocean Dream Hotel in order to try something different, BUT, after 2 days of nightmare we decided to move to The Royal Villas to finish our Vacation. I can say, The Royal Villas saved our Vacations! My kids loved the activities organized by the hotel, the room service 24/7 is excellent and all the staff is super friendly!!!

the inclusive package was great. the beach was nice and relaxing - bit too busy.
having purchased the all inclusive package - we felt pressured to tip each meal and drink.

We arrived at the Royal Cancun unexpectedly because our original hotel badly let us down and we had to leave it in a hurry. From the moment we booked, the Royal treated us like VIPs. We asked for their help with an early check-in. José at the front desk arranged this, and also gave us our room keys early so we could enjoy the bar and restaurants while we waited for our room to be prepared. Reynaldo helped us with our luggage and ensured we were looked after.
Our suite was a large two-bedroom apartment with one bathroom and a modern kitchen. We had been told the room was "resort view" but we could clearly see the ocean from the large balcony. The beds, sofa and balcony furniture were very comfortable. The kitchen was generously stocked with all kinds of utensils, crockery and cutlery, as well as nice little touches like dishwasher salt, a packet of coffee and a few complimentary local beers in the fridge! Our cleaner was impeccable - every time we returned to the room it had been thoroughly cleaned (and they ensured that it was fumigated against pests and mosquitos before we arrived).
Everyone in the resort speaks fluent English, though they were kind and patient with us when we did our best to converse in Spanish. The services on offer were amazing. We paid for sports massages in the spa villa (amazing, my back still feels great after the 11 hour flight home); borrowed towels every day to sit by the pool or beach (free); borrowed snorkels, fins and masks (free); took a kayak out in the mangrove swamps (free); parked our car in the secure car park (free).
The breakfast was excellent - a generous selection of hot and cold buffet options, plus cooked food to order. It runs from 0700-1100 and was never too busy. The swim-up pool bar is great, and closes at 10pm so the whole place is very quiet at night.
Nothing. This is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at. I didn't like having to leave it and come home! We're already plotting our return. I can't imagine anything that could have made my stay better.

Bar closed too early and we had to move rooms on Christmas eve with a family of 5. I was very unhappy

The staff was wonderful and the rooms were very nice! There was a wide variety of yummy food at the buffet with the option of ordering off the menu with the all-inclusive plan. The food at the specialty restaurants was excellent and they were great at accommodating us when we didn't have a reservation. Initially, we were put in a garden view room. After checking my reservation it said we had a resort view which the front desk said included a garden view. When I explained that I thought we would have a room overlooking the pool, we were moved to a great room with a partial ocean view and the pool without any problems:-)!
This resort is ideal for families although there was no entertainment or shows in the evening. If you're a young adult and want nightlife (dancing and/or drinks later in the evening), I wouldn't recommend staying here. The bars close at 10-ish and you have to get a taxi or take a bus to go nightclubbing in town about 15-20 minutes away. With the rainy weather, it also would have been nice if the resort had hot tubs. Premium liquor is not included in the all-inclusive plan.

ok for family vacation but not 5 star
somewhat dated but ok

The tennis courts are nice. Small supermarket at the property.
This is by no means a 5 star resort. A couple of hundred meters down the beach (Intercontinental), the water and the beach are clear. Here the beach and water are murky. Despite the name, the resort does not offer "villas", but condos. In itself ok, but the naming is questionable. Bathroom was cramped and very basic. Breakfast was only so-so.
