Nice hotel, more traditional than I expected, boutique always makes me think of quirky for some reason. It was in a really good location, a hundred or so yards from the park at the edge of the old town and maybe 8 minutes to the main square, with plenty of interesting bars/restaurants to check out en route. A bus stop was also just yards away from the front door and trams around the corner. Bathroom was clean and modern and the room and beds were comfortable, sockets by the bed too. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. They have a quiet garden space at the rear and a spa etc., which we didn't use, if you want to chill. They have some free daily events including a walking tour and vodka tasting, although none of these fitted in with our personal itinerary timing wise. Lots of restaurants and bars of every price range, cuisine and vibe to suit all ages close by, and in basically every direction too. The hard part is choosing. Although, The Artist Cocktail Bar was a really chilled place we enjoyed, especially as it was probably closest to the hotel, for a nightcap or two. Would stay at Amber again, definitely.

Lift was really, really, really slow, we were on the top, third, floor so used the stairs coming down as it was much quicker and we're in our late 60's! Didn't really fancy three floors hike upwards after a night out though, even if it would be faster. Strangely, it has a habit of randomly showing the third floor as -1, which threw us a bit on the first night! Breakfast was ok, very limited hot options, usually scrambled egg, frankurters and a varying option, but not a bad continental/cereal/fruit selection and enough there to give you a decent start for a morning's exploration. Certainly non of these were deal breakers.

Just a very short distance from the edge of the park that runs around the Old Town. A mere 8 minutes walk from the Barbican and St Florians gate . The hotel was not super modern but retained an old world charm. On arrival we were upgraded to a superior room. That doesn’t happen often! Breakfast was , shall I say interesting. An attempt had been made to address all tastes . We stuck to the melon slices, bread rolls and croissants and coffee from quite a noisy machine that made tables stop mid sentence until the machine had finished dispensing.

It suited us fine as we spent the greater part of the day exploring. However for some it might come across a little too conservative. No residents lounge or bar . But of course it was just 3 star. Plenty of bars & cafes locally.

The staff were nice

The reviews and rating for the hotel were overstated, however it was clean and the staff were pleasant .
