Beacon Grand, A Union Square Hotel

Love the beautiful decorations.

Change the name back to the St Francis Drake hotel!!

The rooms at Beacon Grand are absolutely beautiful, and the historic building itself has a lot of character. The renovation has been done very well and visually this is a really impressive hotel.

Unfortunately, the service was much more inconsistent. Several members of staff didn’t seem particularly interested in helping, especially in the lobby bar, where at times it almost felt like they would rather you weren’t there. On the other hand, the bartenders and staff at the rooftop bar were excellent, very friendly and welcoming. The lobby is extremely lively and busy, which can be fun if that is the atmosphere you are looking for, but the hotel overall can also feel quite chaotic. My friend that slept on another floor had a particularly rough night. A dog was barking in a nearby room for hours, and eventually the fire department had to come and gain access to the room. Once that finally became quiet, a party started in the room next door.
