Enjoy spectacular views in this very spacious three bedroom, one and a half bathroom Balmain home. There’s plenty of street parking available, or it’s just a short ferry ride to new shopping precinct, Barangaroo, with easy access from there to Circular Quay, the Sydney Opera House and the CBD (Downtown). The Space: Enter from the street into a gorgeous, Tuscan style stepped courtyard garden with espaliered fruit trees and herb garden beds. Bi-fold doors connect the courtyard to a large, fully-equipped gourmet kitchen, with dishwasher, gas cooktop, electric fan-forced oven, microwave and coffee maker, as well as a table that seats eight people comfortably. Off this kitchen is a family-sized laundry with WC. Continue on to separate dining area with a table for four and a couple of comfortable armchairs, and then on to a sumptuous living room with a two-seater sofa, two more armchairs and flat-screen TV. On the next level up, you’ll find three well-appointed bedrooms with reverse–cycle heating/cooling, two of which also have ceiling fans. All three bedrooms have queen size beds and views of either the city skyline, Sydney Harbour or Anzac Bridge. There’s also a bathroom on this floor with a bathtub. On the third level is a large rooftop terrace with absolutely stunning views of the city, great for entertaining or a perfect view of Sydney’s world famous New Years Eve fireworks display. The Neighborhood: Historic Balmain is just far enough away from the main tourist hubs of Circular Quay, Sydney Opera House and the CBD to have its relaxed vibe, but close enough to get to the action in ten minutes if yo need to. With shops, markets and an abundance of eateries in close proximity, it’s the perfect location. It’s a short walk to busses and Balmain wharf, with regular ferry services across Sydney’s famous harbour to Barangaroo and Circular Quay, both of which are close to Sydney’s CBD and train stations. If you have a car, there’s easy parking on the street outside the property.

This house is awesome. Quiet, peaceful, spacious, stunning view and such a variety of places to sit including the lovely roof garden. We had a lovely 4 days and our hosts could not have been more accommodating.

We booked this property over the holiday season and chose this property because of the 3 bedrooms and rooftop fireworks. Giacomo was a pleasure to deal with prior to our arrival and very helpful with questions relating to New Year’s. However, upon arrival it became very clear that this property was drastically over represented and over valued for the condition it is in. The towels were stained, and the headboard in the master bedroom also had a huge stain. Disgusting! The whole house has a dank smell (my kids were gagging). The upstairs bathroom had a drainage problem and water pools up on the bathroom floor, making the bathroom difficult to use. We had to take really quick showers to avoid a swamp! There were also dozens of BUGS on the ceiling in the bathroom. When we called Giacomo extremely upset, he offered to send a cleaning lady to come inspect the property. She never showed up! Giacomo also offered to refund a portion of our money and once we checked out, he refused to do so.
In short, very disappointed that Giacomo refused to keep his word regarding a discount on the very overpriced rates he was charging during the holiday week. We wound up seeing the fireworks on a boat for the 9 o’clock show which was wonderful and returning to the house to view the midnight fireworks on the rooftop, which was also wonderful. But not worth the price we paid for the conditions we endured during our week of vacation!

Bugs and Filth in Balmain

We have stayed with Giacomo and Lynn before in their other beautiful property, so we were delighted to stay in this house! The home is beautifully decorated, with all modern conveniences. We appreciated the extra adapters for our technology. We loved the peaceful location and easy access to the ferry. Great two pubs in town with exceptional food! We will be back!

Highly recommend this property!
Giacomo went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable. He met us at the property and walked us thru every room explaining how to operate the awnings and all features of each room. He even supplied us with Opal passes so that we could use the public transportation (ferries, buses, and trains), he asked we give a small fee for this but saved us the hassle of having to get our own passes which require a deposit. Giacomo spent a great deal of time with us explaining the transportation available to us as well as the lay of the land for shopping, dining, location/ times of various terminals. I will be back! From the time we booked, everything (check-in instructions, contact information, codes, etc) was communicated with great clarity. At our arrival, we instantly felt welcomed. The hosts are a wonderful Australian couple with a great empathy for travellers.
The residence is an amazing villa with a view of the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Darling harbour. The house is very clean, with a fully equipped kitchen; we enjoyed preparing our breakfast every day. The location was terrific; the neighbourhood is quiet and safe. We loved our 10 minutes walks to Balmain East ferry every day (stopping for a coffee at café Euphoria), catching a ferry to Circular Quay (15 minutes) or Darling Harbour (8 minutes). The house exceeded our expectations and made our holidays in Sydney very special.

Great house with fantastic views of Sydney, a gem
Amazing landlords offering a great family home for our recent trip to Sydney. A very comfortable property in a super location offering the best views for our new year celebrations. Easy access to everything via boat or bus, the perfect base with great independent shops, cafes and restaurants on the door step.
We were made very welcome, given great advise and tips on where to go and how to get around.

Great place to explore Sydney. The ferry terminal is a beautiful 10 min walk and the ferries get you everywhere. The house is beautiful and very well maintained. The roof top patio is where we would spend our evenings . Nice to see the Cruise ships come and go.. Ken was a great host and very helpful. Just a couple of notes. There is one shower for the 3 bedrooms, but has another washroom downstairs. Also the stairs to the rooftop are quite narrow and might be difficult for anyone who has trouble with stairs.
The house was exactly what we were looking for and exactly what is described. Highly recommended

Historic House with Great Harbour Bridge Views
With the idea to visit Sydney for the NYE world famous fireworks I located this place that had such amazing reviews. I was hesitant at first because my choice was for this house with the Rooftop Garden with direct uninterrupted views of the Harbour Bridge or to choose their other house next door without the rooftop garden but with 3 bathrooms and also exceptional reviews. I eventually settled on this one because of the ability to have complete access to the rooftop garden and enjoy the NYE fireworks for the whole family and friends. The best decision I had made for the entire trip. EVERYONE in our party and visitors we had over absolutely LOVED the house and it’s amazing location in the Inner City.
The NYE fireworks by the way were just outstanding, more than living up to our expectations. We felt we were right in the action with brilliant view lines right across the city skyline and Harbour Bridge. Spectacular.
The house itself creates it’s own energy and warmth as soon as you enter from the kitchen. It is just so interesting and inviting with a beautiful polished terracotta floor. Very Italian / Mediterranean with an abundance of utensils and appliances if you like to cook. Clearly the owners do. The rest of the house is so charming and very comfortable.
Linens and other amenities were all first class and we constantly thought how lucky we were to have chosen this house and its great location. This is really Inner City living without all the high-rise. That’s part of the spectacular view and it’s so quiet.
We actually hired a car because we planned a day trip to the Blue Mountains with our children but aside from that trip we did not need a car at all. Public transport is so easy to use and first class and you can’t beat that Ferry trip to the city every day, passing by the Opera House and under the SHB. You can get to all the tourist spots in no time at all. No wonder Balmain is so popular. We had a great time. A memorable time. Don’t hesitate. This is a great place.

Stunning Views
Lyn and Giacomo's place is conveniently located to sites within walking distance and just minutes away to the heart of Sydney via public transportation. The Villa is beautiful and comfortable. It is well cared for and stocked with every accoutrement imaginable. The harbor views from the bedrooms and patio are absolutely stunning and the perfect spot for morning coffee. I highly recommend this location. Giacomo is the most gracious and thoughtful host. From the time I arrived until my departure he went out of his way to ensure my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. He was also extremely informative regarding sites to see, things to do and how to get around. Thank you for making my first visit to Australia simply wonderful. I look forward to my next stay.

Couldn't have been more perfect!!!
Our two 17 year old granddaughters wanted to come to Sydney, and we thought it might be the perfect graduation gift. Grandpa stayed home (in Oklahoma, USA) and our two sons accompanied the girls and I for a whirlwind, wonderful vacation. I can't say enough about our home away from home! The girls absolutely loved it! It is beautiful, quirky, comfortable, decorated with so many interesting furnishings, the garden area is a delight, and the balconys and roof garden were so much fun. Giacomo and Lyn were so helpful, accommodating and kind from the time we made the reservations until we left for home. Always available and ready to answer questions and help out. Balmain East was the perfect area, too. We mostly used the ferry, because they were so close and convenient. Circular Quay, Darling Harbor, Barangaroo, Manly Beach, Taronga Zoo-all an easy trip on the ferry. For a few longer trips, we used the buses and train. Thank you, Giacomo and Lynn! We feel we were truly blessed to find you and your home for our trip to Sydney. We will never forget it!

Historic House with great location and views!
We loved this historic house with all its character. The Balmain area was great and away from the bustle of Sydney and yet easy ferry access to anywhere. The only challenge was the bathroom, but once we got the hang of they system we were fine. Thanks to both Giacomo and Lyn for all their tips and for greeting us and familiarizing us with the home. The outdoor areas were amazing and we were lucky to have fireworks visible from two harbors on our last night. This home was exactly as we expected and more. I'd recommend to travelers who love to walk or if you have a car, but I suggest avoinding traffic and walk and use ferry system. We truly felt at home and it was a great place to end our first visit to Australia!

Still superb!
Some years ago we retired from city life to live in the country. However we return regularly to visit the city and always stay in Balmain East as we regard the Grafton Rd residence as the best house and location in Sydney. In addition to the top quality accommodation are the wonderful hosts Giacomo and Lyn. They are extremely friendly and so very helpful. When staying here we don't need to use a car as Sydney's public transport system and ease of accessing it from the house is outstanding. Only minutes to walk to ferries and buses with pleasant quick rides to the city then easy connections to the train system if needed. Getting from the airport to the residence is straight forward. We jump on the airport train to Circular Quay then take the ferry to Balmain East. The area itself has many shops, restaurants, pubs and coffee stops available - all a short walk from the house. You won't miss out on good food or coffee when staying in Balmain. The area has interesting architecture and is quite historical - well worth spending some time walking around the district and harbour side parks. So if you are planning to visit Sydney you really should be thinking about Balmain East. And of course staying at Giacomo and Lyn's beautiful accommodation which overlooks the harbour and is just a short hop to the city.

Tuscan Villa Overlooking Sydney Harbor
Great accommodations in a great location in the Balmain East suburb of Sydney. Comfortable house with super friendly hosts that will make you feel right at home. And the views are simply outrageous. There is a balcony and city view from several of the rooms and a bonus roof top terrace. The kitchen is huge and is very well stocked with appliances, pots, pans and utensils. The ferry is nearby as are restaurants and shops. We will return!

Great location
Visitors from North America may find this home a bit small compared to rental accommodations back home but don’t let that dissuade you. This older heritage home is in a very upscale neighbourhood very close to the harbour and only a 10-15 minute walk from the ferry which takes you anywhere you need to go in Sydney. The home is quite lovely with a beautiful rooftop dining area which gives a great view of Sydney harbour. Streets are narrow and parking is limited in this area so I would recommend skipping a car and just using public transit which is excellent. You can get an opal card, load it with $20 and use it like a debit card to get around on the bus or ferry. There is a grocery store about a10 minute walk away as well and lots of restaurants at the various ferry stops. Giacomo is very accommodating and responsive to your inquiries and will provide you with many helpful recommendations on things to do and ways to get around. I would certainly stay here again if we are ever back in Sydney.

We had an excellent stay at the house! Plenty of space. Very quiet, nice surroundings and a great view over the city. Walking distance to ferry which took us to the city centre. Possibility to leave the car outside the building and use bus or ferry for transport. The hosts, Giacomo and Lyn are very friendly, nice social persons.

Giacomo and Lyn were the perfect hosts having accommodated us at the last minute they ensured we were armed with everything we needed to enjoy their home and Sydney throughout our stay. The home was lovely, filled with character and comfort relative to the Sydney lifestyle. Every member of the family on the first encounter with the roof top terrace went "WOW" at the view over the bay to the city and bridge. Balmain is a great area with an abundance of trendy restaurants, bars and shops all buzzing with links to the buses and ferries giving easy access to the city and surrounding areas. The ferry journey alone is great sightseeing adventure. As a family we really enjoyed the home with its numerous beautiful outdoor areas and the signature kitchen which greets you when you enter through the patio garden. We could not recommend this home enough and like previous guests would happily give it seven stars.

If we could, we would give this property and the owners 7 stars. It and they exceeded our expectations at every turn. The property is as advertised - beautiful and comfortable and the views are magnificent. We didn't have a car during our stay and so took ferries and buses everywhere which was so easy. After being out and about all day, we came home and had a glass of wine on the front terrace - with a cool breeze. The perfect end to a perfect day. There are restaurants in Balmain which are easy to walk to. They also deliver. There is a grocery store and excellent wine store within walking distance which also delivers. The owners of this beautiful property could not have been more hospitable, caring or helpful. We would highly recommend this property. Five stars definitely not enough!

8 of us stayed in this beautiful house and studio for a week over New Years Eve. The house was very clean and comfortable with amazing views from the balconies and the roof top terrace. On NYE we watched the early fireworks from the rooftop terrace. Later some of us walked down to the waters edge (about 10 mins) for a great view of the midnight fireworks. We bought Opal cards and used the nearby Balmain East ferry to get around Sydney quickly and cheaply. Much more enjoyable than driving! The Balmain shopping centre is about a 15 min walk away and has a Woolworths, shops and some great cafes and restaurants. There are 2 hotels nearby, an excellent Italian restaurant, Capello Pizzeria, and a fabulous cafe called Euforia where we sometimes stopped for breakfast on the way to the ferry. Sydney is hilly and Balmain seems to have more than it's share but we rarely used our cars. Communication with the owners was excellent and they were very helpful both before and after we arrived.

The Photos of this place are impressive but much more impressive when you see it with your own eyes. As I was the one responsible for finding and making the booking for our group it was a great start to a great stay. Everyone said it has such a good and happy feel to it and so well presented and comfortable.
We loved the local shops and restaurants and bars. It really has everything you would hope for and soooo close to the City itself so it was no bother to come 'home' for a break, shower rest and head out again. All too easy because of it's location and great ferry and bus service. We used a taxi once during our stay because it was early hours of the morning and that was easy too. Location and amenities made our stay a pleasure. We ate in only for a light breakfast but for those that might like to cook the kitchen was well appointed.
The view is something special too....better than New York and the fireworks were on for some reason or other while we were here and that was unexpected and a real blast. I believe it is amazing on NYE especially with the view from the rooftop garden. That's awesome and great for pre dinner drinks.
An absolute delight as so many other guests have stated , something I was guided by and so pleased to find it accurate.
Communication, security and directions were all handled professionally and promptly. I could not have asked for more.

We stayed in this amazing property for a girls getaway in Sydney. The location was perfectly located and we were able to get to all of the locations we wanted over weekend, including the city and Bondi. busses and ferries are walking distance. the local area has a great vibe with great restaurants and shopping. The property is a beautiful home with tons of character and charm. The rooftop terrace is breathtaking with a a harbour side view of the city skyline. The hosts are very friendly, welcoming and easy to communicate with. We highly recommend this house.

This was the pefect place for our family as we gathered for a wedding. We rented the house and the studio, and there was plenty of room for us all. The owners corresponded with us frequently to make sure we were comfortable, and we were. The views were stunning, and the rooftop deck perfect for an evening view of Sydney.

This is a wonderful find! The hosts were gracious. The price was unbeatable for 7 of us staying in Sydney. The walk to the ferry was very enjoyable everyday and was great exercise. I would only hesitate about this location if I were overweight or had bad joints/back problems because of the walk to the ferry. BTW Taxi ride from airport to home in a Maxi-Cab (for 6 people they ad a 50% surcharge for a Maxi-Cab) was $90AUD. FYI Sydney is very, very expensive and this was a bargain!!!

We have stayed in dozens of VRBO properties in Europe and the US. This is theeee nicest property we have every stayed in. Starting with the proprietors - whom we now call our friend. This house was magnificent. We where there for a week and loved the charm of Balmain East, the ferry system, the people and most important this home and property. From the beautiful rooftop deck, stunning views and wonderful landscape this home was truly a home away from home. It is beautifully decorated with great attention to detail.
We even spent an evening as guests of our proprietors when they made us homemade pizza (from the brick pizza oven) with ingredients from the garden. It not only was delicious but a great way to meet new friends. We left singing praises and singing "Me Casa es Su Casa."

We expected nice but this property was so much more. Balmain is a charming and picturesque district, isolated from the busy downtown Quay. Shopping and delightful small restaurants are nearby. It is a short walk or bus ride to the ferry stop from which downtown Sydney is 15 minutes away. The ferry ride with the views of the Opera House and Bridge is a joy every time!
The house is wonderful! The interior décor is delightful, the landscaping gorgeous. It is hard to tear yourself away from the amazing kitchen with its backyard view! It’s as though they are really one. The views from the rooftop and main level terraces have forever changed the image of Sydney I see upon thinking of her. On three different nights we saw fireworks above the city skyline.
The owners are a pleasure to do business with, straightforward and unquestionably reliable.
We look forward to returning one day. We loved Sydney and the exciting discovery of Balmain!

Our extended family chose this lovely, well situated home with a private garden in the Balmain neighborhood for our recent visit to Sydney. The main house, studio and garden are charming and have all of the modern amenities that contributed to our comfort including a well-stocked & equipped kitchen, a vegetable and herb garden, nice linens and a complete library of DVDs and books. Our family enjoyed the rooftop deck for reading in the hammock, enjoying city views at sunrise and sunset, and fireworks over the Easter weekend. The house is literally just steps away from a couple parks, village shopping, and the ferry dock. The owners were absolutely warm and welcoming, and made us all feel immediately at home. We recommend this home in Sydney away from home without any reservation whatsoever!

My wife and I selected this home for our first visit to Australia in February, 2012, and we could not have enjoyed our 10 day stay in Sydney more. This lovingly restored home is beautifully decorated and has all of the modern amenities that we had hoped for. The kitchen is the heart of this home, facing out to a charming and private garden, and fully equipped with everything a chef could ask for. The rooftop deck is the perfect place to enjoy spectacular city views at sunset.
The house is nicely situated in a quiet location, just steps from a waterfront park, and surrounded by other well cared for homes. Balmain reminds one of an English village, and we took full advantage of the local shops and restaurants. The ferry , a unique, fun and inexpensive form of public transportation took us everywhere - and the ferry dock is just minutes from the house.
We are well travelled, but had not used VRBO before - we were very pleased with the attention to detail provided by the owner of this home, and recommend it to anyone seeking a quiet and authentic experience just across the bay from one of world's great cities.
