About this cottage rental
The Summer House on the Island of Tybee is located in a quiet friendly neighborhood, within walking distance to almost everything on the island. The house is a circa 1925 home that has been lovingly restored to keep up with the times, but retains 'The Summer House' charm. The caretaker lives on the property in the lower level. There are three porches, a porch swing, an outdoor shower, a small yard and gardens to enjoy. Bicycles and pedestrians walk on the street, the market is a few doors away, the beach which is 1 1/2 blocks away is the most favored on the island. There are cabs to take you most anywhere else on the island. The house is bright and airy. It has 2 bedrooms. No. 1 has a queen bed. No. 2 has two bunk beds all twin sized and sleeps 4. There is one bath that has a tub/shower, there is an outdoor shower under the back stairs. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the conveniences of your own home, there is even a drawer full of spices for your use. Amenities include, TV, internet, an assortment of toys and games for beach and home. The home is centrally cooled with ceiling fans in each room, with the exception of the bunk room which has a portable fan. The is a wagon to take to the beach and a wheeled cart as well. There are toys for the beach, chairs, and an umbrella, for your enjoyment. I live in the house as well, in the first level. We share the driveway, laundry room and back patio. I am excited to have visitors and if I don't hear you - I don't think you are having fun!

We loved staying at this sweet little cottage, it was clean well stocked kitchen and comfortable beds. It was great to be able to walk one block to the beach and having the grocery store so close another plus. Caren was very helpful and lovely to meet.

We had an absolutely fantastic time! There is nothing bad to say about our stay at all! The location is perfect, the neighborhood is perfect, and the privacy is perfect. For anyone who is not considering staying here because the host lives nearby, do NOT LET THAT STOP YOU from enjoying this property! I have four small kids, extremely loud and rambunctious, the kind you have to apologize to your neighbors about. Not once did they seem to even phase Mrs. Caren at all! Affordability, proximity to the store and the beach, and the fact that the 11th street beach access is the least populated access in the area make this property a hidden Gem. If its available, BOOK IT! We will be coming back next year for sure!

The apartment was warm upon arrival. I assumed because owner kept a/c at a higher temp when not occupied so I turned down thermostat to cool place. It never cooled off, we slept in heat. This is during 93 degree days.
The next day we went to beach and came back to hot house, had to leave to find a/c elsewhere.
I texted Caren at 6:30pm concerned the a/c was not working. She didn’t return my message until 10:30pm and said she was leaving a fan by the door. Then texted that she would reimburse my stay if I found the heat to be unbearable and needed to relocate. I managed to find a place to move my family (including my 6 month old) to near by…packed up and moved at 11pm-midnight! Caren said that repair person would come by at 10-11am next day (92 degrees by 10am, mind you) So, I went to the property and he never showed during that time. (Caren later claims he came and went to buy parts)The a/c was not working, so I had to make decision to fully move out of rental, as it was not a safe environment for us, especially a baby. The heat made it unbearable and it wouldn’t be repaired until afternoon.
The most aggravation part of all of this is that Caren lives downstairs, so SHE KNEW THE A/C WAS NOT WORKING.
I reached out to Caren asking that she reimburse my stay, as she had offered, because we had to leave the property and rent a place elsewhere for two of the three nights of vacation. She refused and only reimbursed one night (not even in full, considering other fees)

We'd gladly choose Caren's place again, even though (as some reviews have mentioned) it's across the street from the IGA and experiences delivery noise in the morning. That was no bother to us at all. This one checks all the boxes! Comfortable, convenient, clean, beautifully decorated, amenities like outdoor shower and beach toys, appointed well for home cooking. On top of that, we experienced great communication with the host (who was very patient with us as we couldn't make up our mind whether to come or not with a hurricane forecasted to pass through). We're so glad we did! Oh, and the master bed had the most comfortable mattress, highest quality covers, and plushest pillow of any rental we've stayed in. Perfect for a beach getaway.

The house was located close to the beach and half a block from the grocery store. So cute and lots of room. Neighborhood was safe and family friendly, we were able to let the kids bike up and down the street without worry. I loved the huge screened-in front porch, which made morning coffee so enjoyable. The host was very responsive and friendly. The only upgrade needed was the main shower, but all else was PREFECT! We will stay again, hopefully soon. :)

Four of us girls stayed here for a long weekend. The location is outstanding and the house was very comfortable. Caren was super responsive and even replaced the beach cart for us. The outside shower was awesome after being on the beach all day.

We had a fantastic experience! The house was cozy and perfect for us, we were instantly comfortable. We spent many evenings out on the screened in porch. Super close to the beach, just a short walk. The wagon (available to use with the rental) was a lifesaver!

Beautiful and relaxing
It was a very welcoming and beautiful apartment. I was slightly concerned that traffic/noise from the IGA may be too much. We live in the country and not use to noise. I was pleasantly surprised that this was minimal. It was SO relaxing. I will definitely return. Just as a side note, it has 1 full bath. No additional 1/2 bath. Not an issue to us, just wanted make others aware.

We had a great time in Tybee. This house was very conveniently located and was big enough for six of us. The screened in porch was a great place to eat dinner and enjoy the evening breezes!

Only a block and a half from the beach in a quiet, shaded neighborhood, we completely enjoyed our stay. The screened porch was perfect for quiet mornings and fun evenings laughing and catching up. The beach chairs, wagon, and beach umbrella were much appreciated. Thank you, Caren, for a great week!

Cute summer house in terrific location mid-beach. Very clean and cute decor. Perfect for a family. We were there the record hottest week of the year and the AC struggled to stay cool. But, overall, great stay and would definitely come again. One of our favorite Tybee spots!

Sweet, older home with personal touches. Very clean. Easy walk to beach - mid-island so a little less crowded than the south end. Kitchen had all we needed from spices to pots/pans to dishes/glasses/silverware; large refrigerator. Great wifi. Relaxing screened porch. Easy access to hose/bucket to wash off sand. Many beach items available - although we didn't use, as we brought our own. You do need to bring your own beach towels (knew this ahead of time). Thankful for laundry access, although shared in a small space with the landlord - not in the apartment (FYI). Good communication with the hostess.
My family said they slept the best in all our travels at this place. Surprisingly, so did I, as the mattress was softer than I am used to.
If you are looking for a modern, newer, updated stay, this is not for you. If you like quaint older island beach homes, this works.

This house worked perfectly for us and our four kids. Location was convenient to the beach, nearly next door to the IGA (grocery store), and only a short walk from town. We never had to use the car once. We had a blast!

We love Tybee and enjoyed our brief stay. House was convenient and well equipped. Great host. She checked in on us then left us alone. We were there between Christmas and New Year and she even had a small tree decorated. We of course knocked it over fortunately nothing broke. Thanks For A GREAT stay.

The home was clean and airy, with an open layout and a cool beachy vibe. Great light throughout. Loved the screened in porch, where we ate most of our meals. Great for family, with little things like the basic beach essentials and a pack and play already here. Quiet location, close to everything. Would recommend!

Caren has provided a quiet, well appointed place to stay that feels like home. The blue and white color scheme is beautiful, and that long screen porch is the perfect way to start a morning and end your day on the island. Charming, cozy, and thoughtfully furnished!
A perfect getaway for families with kids. The kitchen was well stocked with all kinds of cooking utensils, dishware, etc. The beds were soft and comfortable. Caren had games and books for kids, as well as tons of beach supplies and toys to borrow. I highly recommend this place!

What an Awesome Beach Cottage!!
This place was perfect for our family beach getaway! Very clean, plenty of room for our family (including 2 teenage boys) and the location was wonderful. Steps away from the local grocery and a quick 5 min or less walk to the beach. We made use of the beach chairs and umbrellas that were in the downstairs storage area but there was plenty of other beach toys available for use too! The host was absolutely wonderful and we cant wait to stay here again next year!

Disappointed. Pictures are somewhat misleading.
. Stairs to 1st FL bedroom very narrow and steep. No working light in 1st floor shower, very dark and not a bath towel in the house. Only hand towels and beach towels. Bathroom door would not stay shut. Needs to be a white stripe on the step down transition on front porch. It tripped everyone. If you are more than 5’10” watch out for the sail fish. You could walk right into it.
Tried to reach owner three times, no answer and call was never returned.
This was our third time using Vrbo and had it been our first, it would have been our last.

loved the cottage feel, the front porch and deck were great the outside shower and overall space was great The kitchen was well stocked. There were a few minor issues being an much older home. Bathrooms were tiny and The downstairs bathroom toilet didn't have water in the tank every morning and needed to be filled in order to flush. The bathroom door knob cam off in my hand while in the bathroom. The downstairs bed was extremely uncomfortable. The upstairs floor had some splintering wood in spots and the back deck had spots that were clearly not usable. Some of the furniture was older and needed maintenance. loved the kids room with double bunk beds. Overall this was a great weekend with family with an easy walk to the beach and access to the IGA.

Perfect spot for family vacation
This place was perfect for us - clean, close to the beach, close to the grocery store - with everything we needed for a long weekend get-away. We *really* appreciated the beach toys, umbrellas, & chairs in the closet downstairs (and the hose & bucket for washing off!). There were two families of 3 on our trip so it was great that one family got the downstairs and the other go the upstairs. It was also pretty perfectly set up for the two toddlers we had with us - there were toys in one bookcase and nothing too breakable that they could damage! We would definitely book this place again.

Wonderful stay
Great house with lots of extras if you have kids. Lots of beach toys, chairs, umbrellas a beach cart and a wagon that made the trip for my kids. The property manager was super nice and easy to deal with. We enjoyed our time so much that we wanted to extend our stay and we were able to. We look forward to returning!!!!
