Pleasant welcome. Room was of a good size, well appointed, clean and comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were also excellent. Would use again.

The room was good at the front of the hotel, meals are available. Breakfast was good. Parking is available at the rear of the hotel. Staff are very switched on.
The variety of meals for the evening meal is limited.

The room was big, modern, and clean. Staff were friendly and quality of food/drink was brilliant. Greta location in the centre of town too.
Parking options may need to be a little clearer. Food options on the menu would do better if a little more expansive.

Very clean tidy smart hotel with friendly staff and good breakfast.
It needs clearer signage to direct visitors to the rear of the hotel from the public car park.

Hotel had a nice Buzz about it , staff were excellent. Breakfast was very good and lunch & Dinner menus gave a good choice. Good selection of Drinks at the bar.
Stayed for three nights, first room had very little natural light with only one small window looking onto brick wall. Managed to change room for the other two nights , much better. Hotel has no car parking of its own but reasonable priced public car parking is available nearby.

Beautifully decorated, respectful of its age but modern design. Room large and well equipped.
Some noisy customers on the Saturday night.

Customer service was horrifically bad. Unfriendly staff, incredibly unhelpful and frankly rude. Could not recommend this establishment to anyone!

The central location was excellent, the breakfast included in the price was great with a choice of cooked dishes or cereal and fruit. The room was nicely decorated, although my side of the bed was partially obstructed so I literally had to crawl up from the bottom to get in. The bathroom was huge with a stand-alone tub and large shower cubicle. There was no door on the bathroom so it was open to the hallway (although there was a door on the separate toilet area)and there was no other furniture in the room so it was very cold even with the heater going. Overall the room was very clean and the bedroom was cosy, albeit dark as we kept the blind down as it looked onto a brick wall.
We had to climb quite a short, narrow, steep set of stairs to get to the room which was fine going up but coming down was a bit hairy especially if you were carrying anything. The bathroom could definitely have used some more furniture in it to make it less clinical looking.

Floor boards very noise from above rooms

The room in the outside annexe was well appointed and a good size. The bathroom had very good toiletries with a make that we like, H2K. We enjoyed a coffee from the coffee machine which was a nice touch. For a standard room it was good to be provided with a bathrobe and slippers and also bottled water.
Unfortunately as the room was on the ground floor, outside of the building, we were unable to open the window for safety reasons. The bar service in the evening was extremely slow, mainly because there was just one person serving on a busy Saturday night. Unfortunately it wasn't a relaxing drink as there was a very noisy party in the bar area, which the barman did try to quieten down. We never eat a cooked breakfast for which there did seem to be a good choice, however we didn't feel there was enough choice at the buffet table for continental breakfast.
At the time of booking the hotel, Booking.com didn't make it clear enough on their site that the hotel would take the full payment on booking, and I had a bit of a shock when I noticed it on my credit card statement. On looking at the site again, it now seems to be made clearer.

Not sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. The staff were more than friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent and the evening meals very good as well. The public car park behind the hotel is a very short walk to the back of the hotel and you can exit for free when using the code provided by the hotel, The English toiletries in the room were of a high standard. Likewise, the tea and coffee products were at the higher end of quality.
Nothing.

The breakfast was absolutely fabulous, cooked to perfection, provided in lovely surroundings and served by a very attentive, pleasant and extremely hard working member of staff. All in all outstanding!
Beds weren’t the most comfortable but the standard of the personal touches such as toiletries, chocolates, biscuits more than made up for that

Lovely building with parking to the rear. The staff will give you a code for the car park so it is free.
Room had some lovely touches, such as espresso machine, robe and slippers, tea pigs drinks, water bottles, biscuits and chocolate bars plus toiletries and a welcome fan as it was hot.
The bed was comfy as were the lovely pillows.
This was overall a fabulous place to stay and excellent value for money including breakfast. I have taken details of their other coaching inns and hope to stay at others that are more local to me in the future. Definitely recommend.
In room 201 and the door in the corridor right outside slams shut when people go through it. Very loud.
Staff were forgetful at times when serving. I asked for toast at breakfast and I could see the lady put the toaster on, then was chatting to colleagues, looking at photos on a phone with a manager, folding napkins then I heard her say "oh toast". She did give me extra but they were cold and hard. Also slow to serve drinks in the evening but otherwise extremely friendly and seemingly hard working.

Good meals, convenient location for station, shops and canal walk
Room in new annexe was pretty ordinary and too close to outdoor bar area.

The hotel does not have its own carpark but clearly has an agreement with the train station carpark just at the rear (1min walk). During check in the manager told us how to exit the carpark and the code we would need to not incur a charge so we parked for free during our stay which was unexpected. The hotel is a traditional and charming pub on the high street. Lovely walks along the canal are less than 5min walk down the road. We had dinner at the hotel (fish and chips) and this was perfectly fine but perhaps could've done with a touch more seasoning. (We were awkward and went on a Sunday about 30mins before kitchen closed so perhaps this isn't a true reflection). We were placed in an accessible room (nobody in my party was disabled, I am assuming they just let them out as their ground floor and easier to maintain/access/clean). Room was ground floor facing the courtyard - very convenient for dinner and breakfast. The room and wetroom were spotless and beds were comfortable. Breakfast was a small continental buffet and hot breakfasts to order inc. eggs benedict and eggs royale. The man on the hotel desk was really lovely and couldn't do more to help us - they even leave handpicked books in the rooms on staff recommendations. I would say its better as a hotel rather than a pub.
Enjoyed close proximity to restaurant but loud patrons were in the courtyard until 10:30 - last orders were at 10. It wasn't ridiculously late but i did think that someone from the hotel might have popped out and asked them to consider that guests bedrooms were 10feet away - with windows open due to the recent heatwave. the group even started to shout and argue aggressively between each other. They seemed friendly with the bar staff so perhaps regulars? They weren't a huge issue I just wished they could have been more considerate of guests staying over.
The restaurant staff were fine but seemed bored and not hugely eager. We had to wait quite a while to catch the barman's eye to order our drinks and ask for the food menu as he was talking to colleagues or other patrons (not serving at that particularly moment) only for him to then briskly inform us that the kitchen would be closing very shortly, wouldn't have minded this comment in the least (as it was true) if I hadn't already been waiting on menus for a while. As I also said above - the food that then arrived was slightly underseasoned.
As I said the hotel excelled expectations. The pub side of things while good was not up to the same high standard of service.
