ABOUT COPPER MOUNTAIN: Known as the 'Local's Favorite,' Copper Mountain is the largest ski and snowboard resort in Summit County. It is also the only ski resort that features naturally separated terrain, allowing beginners, intermediates, and experts to ski and ride on their own distinct areas of the mountain. Its central location (situated between Breckenridge/Keystone to the east and Vail to the west) makes it ideal for the guest who wants to get out and enjoy other resorts as well. With 2433 acres of ski able terrain, Copper Mountain is the biggest and least crowded mountain resort area in Summit County, Colorado. Despite being the biggest, it has the least amount of lodging units available which is the main reason for Copper's uncrowded lifts and runs. With its naturally divided ski terrain that separates skiers by ability across the mountain, Copper has been called 'the most nearly perfect ski mountain in the United States' by the Forest Service. Elevators are being worked on it the building. They work intermittently. It's also known as the Local's Favorite. Perhaps that's due to Copper's long, steep mogul runs, or its ample above-timberline open bowl skiing. The location is good. Otherwise quite difficult. They use a bizarre system of physically mailing your keys and check in instructions. We had already left home so had to go pick up keys elsewhere in copper, email multiple times for various check in details, and now have to mail back the keys so we aren't charged for them when we get home. The check in instructions did not include an actual address, just a building name, so we had no way to know where to physically go in copper. The parking is in a covered garage with low clearance, so if you have a high clearance vehicle, you can not use the buildings parking, and have to use the rather expensive paid public parking lots . The elevators in the building did not work, and appeared to be a long term problem, so we had to carry all our ski bags up and down 4 flights of stairs, which if we were older or injured would have been a big deal. Over all an unnecessarily complicated process.
