Customer service.
Location.
Room with balcony.
The room we were first allocated with a misleading description but excellent customer service and we were moved.
No proper coffee maker in the room.

It’s in one of my favorite neighborhoods in Manhattan. Much more laid back and relaxed than midtown and far more character than areas like Chelsea and Soho. While everything in NYC is extremely overpriced, the property in relation was quite fair and we got far more for our money than other properties I’ve stayed at downtown for even higher rates. What was even more surprising than the size and quality of the room was the fact that the reception staff were so kind and helpful and had personalities. The other downtown hotels I’ve stayed at, reception staff always seem to work hard at being rude, unhelpful and dismissive. I started to assume it was just the New York way. If it is, The Allen is definitely an exception.
Literally our only complaint was the uncomfortable bed but I’ve never had a comfortable bed in a downtown hotel. By no means was it a dealbreaker.

The location is great! You’ve got some blogger-famous dumplings around the corner, metro stations nearby, a skyline view and the room with a balcony was very comfortable. The decor is endearing in its ‘elegance’, and the staff were very nice. Arriving ahead of check-in and storing our luggage was a breeze!
The people complaining sound like they expected champagne standards for beer prices. Adjust your expectations accordingly.

Great location, comfortable beds, loved all the beautiful wood floors and accents everywhere, balcony was fantastic
Nothing!

balcony and bathrooms were very nice, view of the city was wonderful
the room was too small for three people. the beds were not large enough and there were no queen size rooms, only full (not quite) and kings.

Good location, comfortable beds.
Nobody mentioned on check-in that we needed to press the button that was in the room to request room cleaning. So we had none the first day. The second day after we figured it out and put the light on, we left at 8am and when we returned to the room at 2pm, they still hadn't addressed the room and we were told if we stayed until 3pm that would be too late. Not a huge deal but could have been handled better.

I loved staying at this hotel. From the great location to the balcony with a lovely view, everything was perfect!
The rug in the elevator brings down the rest of the elegant, clean property.

Location is amazing. We went to restaurants downtown and a show at the Bowery Ballroom. Everything was easily walked, even to the parking garages. The staff was super kind and helpful, and we were able to borrow umbrellas during the downpour. The room was clean and really cute honestly. I loved the balcony, which was spacious to sit and drink your morning coffee. The shower was nice too, and the water was nice and hot.
The room was fantastic, but the only thing is the beds were a bit firm for our group's taste. But some people may prefer that!

The front desk was friendly. We liked that a room with two beds was available. But only one chair! The small size of the closet made hanging our clothes very difficult. There were many small drawers meaning that our things were spread between multiple spots, not convenient. Given we were there for a week this organization was more important than it would be if there for a short time.
Room service was almost non-existent. No cleaning for an entire week, the floor and bathroom were very dirty by the end of our stay! Towels were exchanged but beds never made. The room was exceedingly tight with only one chair other than those on the balcony. Unfortunately it was too cold and wet to use the balcony. The bedside table had no reading lamps but a nice employee gave us a lamp from the lobby! Strictly spot ceiling lights are hard on the eyes.
The neighborhood of the Lower East Side was fairly dirty and has seen a downturn since the pandemic with many empty store fronts. But there are a few small, cool places to eat and I was pleased to find several Pilates studios right nearby.

Very clean!
It had a great gym and super helpful staff.

Location and price
The room is quite small and the 2 “full” beds seemed a bit abbreviated. Definitely a tight fit for two kids (in one bed) but fine for one adult.

The work out area was really large for the size of the hotel. I had a good workout. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were able to drop our bags before we could check in.
The room was small, but that is expected for NYC. The room was clean, the TV worked well, the bathroom was also clean and useful

Great price for the quality. Clean, good service 24 hours, safety, Good balcony!
Too small room and too cold. But the manager directly came us to warm our room up. She was so kind.

Very nice rooms, if a little small. Perfect LES location.
Originally booked a room for 4 people but the extra large double beds were just double beds and we couldn't fit.

The hotel location is quite good, close to Little Italy and Chinatown
I was in the room on the 1st floor, 101. It was the room with the most annoying light of my life. No coziness, no bedside lamp, the lamps shone like I was in an operating room.
The window was covered with a mirror. When you open the curtains in the morning, you look not at the street, but at yourself.
Plus, the noise insulation left a lot to be desired. Sometimes I woke up at night from the noisy neighbors outside the door, coming to their room.

Great location. 3 minutes from 2 separate metro stations covering 5 lines.
Balcony with amazing city views.
Great character, and exotic oriental decoration.
Not spotlessly clean, but not dirty. (I know that sounds weird)

Booked the deluxe double room recommended for up to 4 adults
We were travelling with our 2 daughters and the room felt very small
Beds were not real double beds , definitely too small for 2 adults. We could not move around the beds
Bathroom had dirt marks around the shower
And lobby was quite off putting with a carpet on the lift full of stains
Wifi did not work in the room we had to go to the lobby to get signals

well-located and in principle a nice place
This hotel is a scam. The hotel offered a room on the application for 3 people with two double beds. On arrival we find that the room has only two single beds. The receptionist kindly squeezed in a cot between the two single beds but this is not what we had paid for. The room was cleaned very sporadically. We only see the manager as we are checking out after 7 days who gave us a lecture about New York hotel rooms instead of any kind of apology and then tried to get us to take an $80 taxi to JFK on the basis that ‘this is Chinatown’. The booking clearly was for 3 people and 2 double beds. I have been to New York many times and this is the first time I have experienced something like this and also no effort on part of hotel to clear up misunderstanding. At 300 dollars a night it’s just daylight robbery. I won’t be staying here again and don’t recommend it.
