About this house rental

The modern cottage is a little over 1 hour's drive south from Perth. It provides families, couples and individuals with a value for money, relaxing holiday base in a quiet location close to beaches and the Peel estuary, and within reach of the south-west's wineries, breweries, crafts and forests.

Located in the Melros seaside community, the cottage is screened from the street by a bush garden which attracts wildlife, such as the Western Ringneck '28' parrot, bush pigeons, bob-tail goannas and brush tail possums.

The cottage has two queen beds and four single beds (2 bunks) suitable for children. The kitchen has a cook top, oven, microwave, refrigerator and dish washer. All utensils are provided. There is a bathroom with shower and a small laundry area with a washing machine. Linen and towels are provided. A reverse cycle airconditioner cools and heats the living area. Ceiling fans are in the two main bedrooms.

Outdoor eating is available on the front verandah which overlooks the bush garden. A gas barbecue is provided.

The property is fenced to keep out the kangaroos. Parking for 2 cars, or a car and dinghy, is within the property. Parking is also available on the verge. The driveway is shared with a property at the rear.

Melros' popular surfing and protected beaches are about 10 minutes' walk from the house (500m by road from the nearest street corner to the sand dunes). The beach is known for body boarding, kayaking, kite surfing in the strong afternoon breezes, beach fishing, and surfing when the swell is right. The white sandy beach offers long walks north and south. An asphalt path, which runs through the sand dunes southward to the Tim's Thicket fishing and 4WD beach, has lookouts for views of the coast. In the evening, kangaroos from nearby bushland graze on the lawns of houses, congregate at Melros 'Roo' Reserve near the beach, and bound through the streets and sand dunes. Take care when driving!

The bush provides opportunities for walks and viewing the local wild flowers in winter and spring. The area is also suitable for cycling. The Peel Estuary and Dawesville channel which offer fishing, crabbing and water sports are approximately 10 minutes' drive away. Boat ramps which do not require a 4WD are found on the estuary side. The Dawesville channel enables convenient access to the ocean from the estuary.

The challenging 'The Cut' international standard golf course is about 10 minutes drive away. Halls Head and Meadowsprings golf courses are further north.

The house is easy care and has a securely fenced yard. There are a variety of interesting walks for dogs and their humans. The beach has areas where dogs can run off leash. All other pets are welcome, except for cats because of the wildlife - sorry cat owners.

There are a number of cafes and restaurants in the area including the Miami Bakehouse, the refurbished Cobblers restaurant, the recently opened Boundary Island Micro Brewery at Erskine, and Cafe Coast at the Bouvard marina - where you can arrive in your boat and dine on the restaurant deck. There are IGA and Coles shopping centres close by and the regional centre of Mandurah offers a range of eating places, shopping and entertainment.

Day trips to attractions in the Geographe Bay and Margaret River regions can be made.

A vehicle is recommended for exploring. However, there is a bus service during the day which goes from near the house to Mandurah city and the train station. There is a frequent train service to and from Perth.

The house has some renewable energy provided from solar panels. The council provides a recycling service but not food and organics collection.

We had such a lovely weekend away at this property. It truly felt like a home away from home and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. One of the highlights was being able to bring our dog, Myles, along with us — it’s not always easy to find such welcoming pet-friendly accommodation. The beds were super comfy, and the location was perfect, with only an easy 10-minute walk to the beach. We really enjoyed our stay and would absolutely recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing break

The host Gaynor was very welcoming, informative and very friendly and accepting of my dog Luna. She showed a love of dogs that made me feel me and Luna very welcome into her holiday property. I have stayed at a number of "dog friendly" accommodations over many years and this one has been hands down the best.
