A Beautiful Place for Inspired Travellers.
About this house rental
30+ days stays only. Art House is located on the North Slope of Bernal Heights which was voted the hottest 2014 neighborhood in San Francisco by RedFin. The house is right on the main drag of Cortland Street, walking distance to many restaurants and shops. What we offer: Solar power. Super spacious 2 level modern Victorian fully renovated sleeps 6 comfortably and can accommodate 8. The dramatic living room with 12' ceilings and flooded with natural light, is where everyone comes together for dinner, drinks and good conversation with friends and family. A fabulous art collection adorns the wall, curated by the owner who collects portraits. A stunning kitchen with all modern appliances, concrete counter tops and everything you need to cook, eat, imbibe and entertain. A handsome master bedroom suite occupies the entire ground level. King size bed with the highest quality mattress and the fluffiest of pillows, luxurious over-sized bathroom with two walk-in rain showers, concrete double sinks and radiant heated floors in a Zen-like setting. An electric fireplace for cozy nights, daybed for daydreaming (could accommodate a single person of any age if privacy is not an issue). Completely private backyard with Japanese Ofuro style hot tub for two and a gas fire pit will keep you cozy. Something you don't come across often in the city. The second bedroom on the main floor has a king size W hotel style feather-bed. There is a desk if you feel the need to work while on vacation... We really hope you don't. The third bedroom is perfect for the younger crowd. The bunk bed accommodates 2 with another single pull-out bed if needed. Adults are welcome too. The front room has gorgeous furnishings, art and a gas fireplace. A very comfortable pull-out sofa (feather-bed topper is available) can accommodate two people comfortably. There is a full size bathroom on the main floor. The house is filled with great art, unique objects, beautiful light fixtures, art books and a mix of modern and vintage furnishings. Right down the street are many charming small neighborhood businesses. Cafes, bars, bakeries, fresh groceries, restaurants, yoga studio and more are just a couple of blocks away. Three blocks up the street is Bernal Hill Park. Great for running or a leisurely walk while you are taking in the breathtaking views of the bay and downtown. Easy street parking, great access to the Peninsula, Silicon Valley and SF airport via Hwy 101 or 280, Mission district, downtown by car or MUNI. City Carshare locations are a few blocks away. Art House is not child proofed and is filled with unique works of art that can't be replaced. We suggest no children under the age of 8. We want you to feel comfortable and relaxed during your stay. Sorry, no furry friends of any kind.

Given the positive reviews and lovely photos we were sure this would be a great place to stay for a few months in transition to moving to SF. However, the latest reviews were from 2014, so please beware that the condition of this home is very misrepresented at this time.
Over the course of our 2 month stay we had the following issues:
- The first night the toilet plumbing exploded leaving us to sewage into the shower so that it didn't leak into the master bedroom.
- We spent about 3 days cleaning cigarettes from windowsills, removing junk from the backyard, and trying to air out the smell of cat litter from the downstairs. (The owners don't have any cleaning supplies so we had to buy them all ourselves - which leads me to ask the question: how often do they actually clean?)
- There was a terrible stench in the master closet. A pest control inspector concluded that an animal had died in the wall and that our best course of action was to wait for the smell to dissipate (which was over a week).
- The hosts live elsewhere, but use the space as a storage unit - and their personal items are shoved in every drawer and closet. It's suffocating to feel like you're living in someone else's dirt.
- There are filthy pots and pans and cooking materials -- we ordered all our own off Amazon (but we took them with us, so sadly future guests won't have clean utensils to use)
- There were multiple bug infestations, one of which was so bad it caused us to move out.
Given everything about the listing, these types of issues are completely inexcusable. In total we had to spend about 7 nights in hotel rooms because of sewage and rodent/bug problems. We ended up deciding to leave about 10 days early because of the problems that the hosts would not address.
We highly recommend you seek other accommodation anywhere else.

This home is decorated with great taste and filled with art. The kitchen is fully stocked and highly functional. Even the bathrooms have nice shampoos and soap. All the beds and sheets are clean and comfortable. We had some minor pluming issue but the owner came and took care of it right away. Walking distance to shops, nice restaurants, parks and the Bernal Height Summit which provides a 360 view of the city. Great place don't miss it!!

Three women, who have been friends for 44+ years, celebrating their big birthdays in the city.
What an incredible time we had staying at this wonderful property! From the moment we opened that front door the "ohs and ahs" started! Everything exceeded our expectations. We spent the first 30 minutes just walking around the place admiring the awesome décor and special touches. We all said it makes us want to redecorate when we get home. The owner was so sweet to leave special treats in acknowledgment of our celebration. We loved the neighborhood and every morning would walk just a few yards to have the best lattes and pastries! The neighborhood is awesome! I would absolutely try to rent this property on my next visit to SF.
A big thank you to our host for making everything perfect!

Our family of 8 visited San Francisco for a wedding and our stay at the Art House was absolutely perfect. The house is lovely and perfectly accommodated our set-up (3 couples, 2 singles). I was very relieved when we walked in and it looked exactly as it is portrayed in the pictures. We really loved walking around the neighborhood and getting the local San Fran experience. Anya is incredibly helpful, welcoming, and a joy to work with. She left us with plenty of great recommendations and all the information we needed. (Seriously, trust her recommendations - we were not disappointed). I highly recommend this property!

Our family spent a week at this property and we truly enjoyed our stay. We were a little worried about having to find street parking at first but it proved to be really easy. The house is very spacious and beautifully decorated. Overall very well kept, clean and comfortable. The location couldn't be better. We loved being able to walk out the door and have great neighborhood restaurants, bars and shops right on Cortland. Our favorite morning spot was Sand Box for coffee and amazing pastries. We couldn't help but go every morning. The only complaint was putting on a few pounds.

We stayed at the Art House with our two kids. The place was very clean, the kitchen was fully equipped and the beds were comfortable. The furnishings were really cool and there was a lot of interesting artwork—this place could be featured in a home décor magazine. It was such a luxury to have a hot tub and outdoor fire pit when it got cold at night, and the welcome package we received with local treats was such a nice touch. A car wasn’t necessary since the house is just down the street from numerous restaurants (our favorites: Little Bee Bakery, Piqeuos, 903 Café) boutiques, coffee shops, a supermarket, and a playground, and the Mission District was easy to explore since it’s the next neighborhood over. It was also a short walk to Bernal Heights Park, where we went to the top of the hill to see the spectacular views of the city.
