About this house rental
(Pet owners, please see note at the end.) We have an unexpected vacancy, so you have the opportunity to grab a prime time at 15% off our usual per night rate - now $66 from May 91 through July 13! 'El Primero' at La Casa Santa Fe. Make your stay in Santa Fe special by staying in the historic José D Sena House, within walking distance of the renowned Plaza and Railyard Park District. 'Walk Score' 92, a 'Walker's Paradise.' Here in the historic Guadalupe district, you will be near the Plaza, the Lensic Performing Arts Center, the Railyard Park, and the Santa Fe River, as well as seven museums. This is a neighborhood where families with generational Santa Fe roots mingle with newer folks who have come to love the traditional Southwestern hospitality. 'El Primero' is located in the front part of an adobe house once owned by Civil War Major José D Sena. Local legend says he lost the property and the adjoining corn fields as a gambling debt. However that may be, various parts of this multi-roomed building have served as residence and as stables. You will be staying in rooms with 12 ft ceilings, in which you can still see bits of the adobe that originally served for the roof. But never fear, there are modern touches such as electricity and indoor plumbing! The thick adobe walls which provide insulation, and the high ceilings with hand-hewn vigas and boards are some of the authentic historical features. Off-street parking near your door makes it easy to lug home your finds from shopping expeditions. A high-speed internet connection is available in case you have an urge to surf the web or, alas, have to attend to business. The cordless telephone allows free local or long distance calls, within the United States. You will find a king size bed with a cozy comforter and a bank of pillows, to sleep two. Check out the antique walnut petticoat dresser, with the huge oval mirror. Two single-size thick foam mattresses can be folded out to provide sleeping if you have over-night visitors. We suggest you pull out the sofa bed and put the mattresses on that. Watch HDTV in the living room, or maybe you just want to enjoy a fire in the kiva fireplace. Should we have unseasonably hot days in the summer, there is a window air conditioner. Your kitchen is outfitted with everything you need to prepare intimate meals, including recipe books featuring New Mexico home cooking recipes and a rack of basic spices. Complimentary reverse osmosis water lets you brew that perfect cup of morning coffee; and there is a coffee grinder for your beans. If you need some particular kitchen gadget give us a ring ... we can probably lend you one. Then let the dishwasher do the clean up while you relax. A full bath followed by hefty cotton towels and a hair dryer will perk you up for a night on the town, but If you want to cozy up 'en casa,' look through the bookshelves and choose from our selection of guidebooks, novels, and historical materials with a New Mexico theme. Mornings give you an opportunity to sip coffee or tea on the east-facing portal (porch), and to watch the parade of folks walking dogs or walking to work. Sure, it's an easy walk to the famous Plaza. But look at what else there is, within a 10 minute walk of La Casa Santa Fe! Here’s a small sample of the neighborhood: Let’s eat! Walk over and pick up fresh and prepared organic food at La Montanita Co-op: 5 blocks (or drive a few more blocks to Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods.) The Farmers’ Market is open Tuesday and Saturday mornings in summer, and Saturday in winter -- we can show you how to take a walking route to shortcut through the neighborhood: also about 5 blocks. On those days you want somebody else to do the cooking (and we all have those) at least two dozen restaurants are a stroll away, most moderately priced. For example, there's New Mexican, Mexican, barbeque, Japanese, East Indian, American, Continental, Thai, pizza, and mid-eastern. Maybe you’re up for some unique shopping opportunities? The Guadalupe District is full of arts, crafts, quirky independent shops, antiques, and even some familiar chains. There are also some wonderful nearby consignment shops, with clothing, jewelry, furniture, and more. Or walk to a variety of museums . . . between the art galleries and the historical buildings, half the town looks like a museum. But seven actual museums within a ten minute walk are: The Santuario de Guadalupe, Site Santa Fe, the Georgia O’Keeffe, the Museo Cultural, the Palace of the Governors, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the New Mexico History Museum. Bus connections to four more museums on Museum Hill are two blocks away. When you're in New Mexico, get outdoors! This might be our favorite topic. Nearby, Hyde Park and the Santa Fe National Forest are a cool twelve miles away and an additional 3,000 feet up. Petroglyph National Monument, Bandelier National Monument, and Pecos National Monument are all within an hour's drive. We are happy to share with you our knowledge from over 40 years of traipsing around New Mexico, from day hikes to car camping to multi-day backpacks, from X-C skiing to downhill dashes, with rafting and a little rock climbing thrown in, along with some bird watching and mushroom hunting. Just let us know what interests you. Our guests have left us some kind comments, click on the 'Reviews' link to read them. Give us a call or send e-mail if you have questions. We live around the corner from the property, and we're looking forward to meeting you! Please note: La Casa Santa Fe offers a smoke-free environment, so we trust you will respect this policy and only smoke outdoors. Doggies are generally welcome, there is a $70 additional charge.. Overall a great experience! Nice neighbors, easy walking distance to plaza and rail yard. I would recommend highly if you are staying 30 days or more. Hosts are very helpful as the live on site.

First off; Linda and John were wonderful hosts. They made our Vrbo experience great. They, and the neighbors, made everything simple, by offering suggestions and ideas on how to make our trip exceptional.
The Vrbo was well-appointed and had everything necessary.
Overall, I would highly recommend Linda, John, and their Vrbo.

Spacious casita in historical part of town. Easy walking distance to the downtown Santa Fe Plaza and fun Railyard (with REI). Grocery stores and nice laundromat nearby. Casita had all kitchen needs and very comfy bed. Fun sitting on porch and chatting with friendly neighbors walking their dogs. Linda is very nice and communicative. Highly recommend.

Great location. Easy walking distance to Historic Plaza and the Railroad District. We enjoyed our 6 weeks in SantaFe.
We appreciated the historic nature of the casa. However, there is a reason only a picture of the living room is shown.
The bathroom tub/shower is small, suitable for someone less than 5’10”. You can only plug one appliance in at time without tripping a circuit. The bed is the most comfortable piece of furniture in the unit. We do not recommend this unit for a long term stay. Tom Walkington

What a fabulous genuine New Mexico casita experience! Linda and John were amazing hosts! They helped us find a supplier for firewood for the kiva and were super friendly! It is a 14 minute walk to the Plaza from the Casita. We brought our pup and it is a very pup friendly neighborhood for walks.

Our VRBO Stay in Santa Fe
Very good stay. We wished they had a washer and Dryer, but we knew that going into our lease.

Historic
The property is well located in the historic area of Guadeloupe. The neighbourhood is a delight to explore as every property is unique and largely old adobe - as is this property. Restaurants, laundry and grocery stores are easily accessed and downtown Santa Fe is an easy walk. The Casita was well stocked with everything we needed and our host was very responsive if we required anything additional.
During our visit, hosts Linda and John went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and everyone involved in our stay were very helpful.
We had a most memorable time in Santa Fe!

I stayed at Linda and John’s place for a month this fall and loved it. Casa Primera is full of charm and history. It does have its quirks, but what 150- year-old adobe guest house wouldn’t? The location is also as exceptional as everyone says. Linda was a wonderful host and made every effort to ensure my stay was enjoyable. Casa Primera is a unique find and I hope I get the chance to stay there again.

This was our first time in Santa Fe and, as we were staying for a month, we wanted a small place within walking distance to the Old City, Rail Yard, and restaurants. Friendly neighborhood- we'd sit out on the front porch and people would stop to chat with us. We got numerous restaurant and activity recommendations from our new neighbors and others who lived on the same street. Linda and John were excellent hosts, great with communication and recommendations. Would definitely stay there again if we go back.

Great Location
Fit my needs . Great location. Safe neighborhood . Special historic property . Unit has everything you need and if not the hosts are happy to provide . Good parking . Close walking to most anything . Downside is no laundry onsite and some long term tenants will complain about dogs even though this is supposed to be pet friendly.

Location is very convenient for shopping and dining. Neighborhood feel. The unit has a cozy feeling with care given to providing what you may need. The bed is extremely comfortable! Friendly owners.

Santa Fe GEM!
La Casa Primera is a very special place. You are immersed in the history of old Santa Fe with its adobe walls, viga ceilings, kiva fireplace, All while having modern day conveniences i.e. dishwasher, Internet, dish network, and the MOST comfortable bed! Linda and John are delightful! They were helpful (referring us to their wood provider for additional firewood) and even brought Christmas decorations for us to use inside and outside! I was truly sad when our three month stay came to an end. We ended up buying property in New Mexico and will maintain our relationship with Linda and John. They and La Casa Primera are gems!

Location, Location, Location
This is the perfect location for all things Santa Fe. Block from both the rail yard area (including the farmers market, the movie theater and art galleries) and the downtown area. There's a shuttle close by that will take you to Canyon Road and Museum Hill.
Linda has the kitchen fixed so you have everything you need and is large enough to move around.
The home was built in the late 1800's so it has some quirks that you would expect from a historic building, but it's also nice to experience a piece of history.
I would happily stay here again.

A Cozy Casita near the Plaza
I stayed at El Primero for six weeks this summer. Part of a larger complex of charming adobe homes, it’s well situated in Santa Fe and is walking distance from shopping at the De Vargas Center and the movies at Violet Crown in the Railyard District. The casita had everything I needed, including a well equipped kitchen and a living room with a window AC unit. Linda was a wonderful host and gave me plenty of space while also providing for all my needs and being very responsive. I highly recommend staying here!

Perfect for us
My husband and I stayed here for slightly over a month, and really appreciated so many things about being here. The location is really fantastic! The bed is king-size and comfortable! We do most of our own cooking, and the kitchen is well-equipped. Linda, the property manager, is a total sweetheart and very responsive to any requests, including things like lending a food processor the one time I wanted one. The property is 130 years old, so has a genuine southwest rustic feel (emphasis on genuine), with a working kiva fireplace we used a couple of times just for fun. It's well-loved, well-cared for, simple, lovely, comfortable, and worked perfectly for us. We would rent here again in a heartbeat.

Historic Charm in a Great Location
We enjoyed our stay at this historical house. The house had a lot of charm but as with any old house, it has its quirks which makes it interesting and fun. Linda greeted us and ensured we had the information we needed for a pleasant stay. We loved the location of this house as we could walk to tourist attractions as well as many great restaurants and leave the car parked.

Great location and atmosphere
This property is ideal for the traveler who wants to experience a stay at a genuine Adobe home. It’s rustic, but comfortable. It is within easy walking distance of the plaza and the railyard district. Several great restaurants are less than 1/2 mile away. There is parking, which is invaluable. We are glad we stayed here!

Somewhat dated
The bathtub will acomodate a 3 yr old, the shower anyone under 6 ft tall. They need a door between the kitchen and bedroom. TV and internet was good.

Perfect.
I had a wonderful visit in this cute adobe house. The bed was supremely comfortable; the kitchen was well stocked and the owner is delightful. It only took me 15 minutes to walk to the Plaza and to the Railyard.
I plan to return as soon as I can.

Linda met us and showed us the property. She is very friendly and gave us a information on restaurants. The apartment has a lot of books for hiking and other information in the area.

Quiet adobe in a convienient neighborhood.
We were able to walk to everything from this cute adobe home. It was a few minutes walk to the Railyard (don't miss the farmer's market there) and 10 - 15 minute walk to the historic downtown area. The neighborhood was quiet and quaint. Linda was very pleasant and helpful.

Wonderful way to see Old Santa Fe
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay in Santa Fe, much more so because of La Casa Santa Fe. The location was absolutely fantastic, within comfortable walking distance of everything we wanted and needed, including galleries, shopping, and nightlife. Our car stayed parked, except for our grocery trip to stock up on food for the week. Linda was a great host too, with helpful information when asked. Our next trip to Santa Fe will again include El Primero at La Casa Santa Fe.
