Brilliant staff - incredibly friendly and helpful.
The most amazingly comfortable bed that I’ve ever slept on.
Central location to everything in Amsterdam.

The property is nicely located in the central part of Amsterdam. 10 minute walk from the train station and the tram drop off and pick up right in front of the hotel.

Breakfast, location, decor, and staff were all excellent.

The location was close to the center station and center of city. The stuff was friendly and helpful. Good breakfast value for Amsterdam
Room very small with double bed. The mattress was placed on the top of the spring Box, sliding on sides of the bed and difficult to keep it in place.
Not necessary repairs were also done on our room in the middle of our stay.

The hotel is in the middle of Amsterdam with all public transport very close. It is a beautiful old historic building with a lot of heritage going back to the Hulscher brothers and the Heinekin founders.
Our family is related to the Hulscher brothers who were the original owners of the hotel and restaurant. We were very disappointed with the facilities. Our room was spartan, to say the least. Not good value for money at all. The staff were not very friendly and when we told them about our relation to the Hulscher brothers they had no comment and just shrug their shoulders. What used to be a lovely old beacon in the center of Amsterdam is definitely past its glory. Won't stay here again.

This is my third stay at PVC and every time it's been exceptional. The hotel itself looks like it has been renovated since my last stay and is even more beautiful than I remember. The staff are amazing, friendly and couldn't be more helpful. Even though you're in a busy city centre, the rooms are quiet and peaceful. The beds are very firm, which is something to keep in mind if you prefer a softer mattress but it's ideal for me and my partner. Prices are a lot more expensive than I remember but so was every other hotel I've stayed in before and is to be expected in the current economical climate but it still provided excellent value for money. I'll certainly be booking again!

Stylish and comfortable hotel. Nice staff. Good location
For the price I would have expected a slightly larger room with somewhere to put my clothes

Great position and a fantastic history. Staff were excellent. But……
The beds are horrible. First night I wanted to leave and find another hotel but we had pre paid. The beds are 2 singles with “toppers” that do not stay in place and are simply useless.
There is no wardrobe or cupboard so hanging your cloths is on a portable metal frame.
No air conditioning as they turn it off from save money. Yes they have windows to open but the noise from the circus below is deafening all night. You will get NO sleep.
the lifts are very slow and a lot of people just use the stairs.
The restaurant was not open only vac several nights we were there yet should have been according to the set times and staff had no idea why it wasn’t open.
I really wanted to love this historic hotel but choices by management in bedding, air conditioning, and ensuring things operate correctly or on time make your stay miserable.

The hotel put us into a dormer room with no ventilation and stairs from the room door and bathroom down to the beds. The TV did not work, the beds and pillows were hard, the windows were dirty, and our “view” from the dormer window was the top of a church steeple - the second tiny window looked out onto steep roof shingles. We could not get either window open. I called the front desk and spoke with staff who advised that “Americans always complain that rooms are too hot. You don’t understand cold wet weather”. I replied the I DO understand the weather because I am from Seattle which has the same type of weather as NL. The next day, a staff person brought a fan to our room and opened the dormer window but no repair of the TV or A/C. The next day, at 5 AM NL time, I went to the front desk and advised that our room was intolerable and we had to be moved. That staff person asked me to phone the mgr at 7 AM and ask her about moving. At 7:15 AM, I spoke to the mgr who advised that the hotel was completely booked but the next day there would be another room. So, on the 4th day, we packed our bags and the mgr had us moved into a very nice room with big windows, soft beds, a working TV, more light and very clean. We were very appreciative and left house keeping staff a nice tip. When we left the hotel today, there was another American couple at the front desk complaining about their room being like an attic space and very hot. Maybe the hotel should not book rooms for Americans if we’re not their type of customer. We do thank the hotel mgr for providing us with 3 nights of peaceful and comfortable sleep.
Our first hotel room and some of the staff.

close to travel and activities. right by Amsterdam square.
I think on a whole, it was very expensive! the matress pads kept sliding off the beds throughout the night which was annoying. The room was very small for the price paid without a breakfast. Breakfast even with the discount voucher was expensive at the property. I don’t really think anything sets this hotel aside from the cheaper options. Yes it is clean, yes the staff are friendly but I was expecting a little bit more.

Friendly and helpful staff. Good buffet breakfast. Great central location and an easy ten minute stroll from the train station. Food size room with good facilities and clean.
Only small gripe was the hotel was being remodelled and so unable to access bar and restaurant but we may have missed that detail when booking. But would go back.

location, clean, size of room and bed
restaurant closed, bar area and lounge area closed for refurbishment. whole hotel very tired and need of a major refurbishment - struggle to see how it would be rated 4 stars at the moment. Staff very lacklustre and not particularly helpful with advice on how to enjoy the city.

no bar, no restaurant. refurb being done so no facilities outside of your room. had I been informed of this I would have booked elsewhere.

It was under construction but the room was clean. Nothing super special but good locationn, and once the construction is done I would stay here again. V convenient to Central Station.
The construction materials were messy and the work outside was loud.

No enough lighting in room, small bed ,small room,no heating in the bathroom, worn out carpets ,definitely not a 4star room and heavily overpriced.Heavy roadworks in front of the hotel(not hotel's fault)but we were informed just one day before arrival hence we couldn't cancel the booking.
