We highly recommend Oshi-Kikuyabo Mt-Fuji Historic Inn, it was the highlight of our trip to Japan. The hosts were lovely and you could tell they had put a lot of effort into making the stay enjoyable for all guests. We enjoyed staying in a traditional Japanese home and also loved that the staff shared the history of the house and its significance. The house is central to Fujiyoshida and is within walking distance to shops.
We could not fault anything, everything was wonderful.

Experiencia única, alojamiento histórico y típico (incluido onsen y vistas al MtFuji). Súper relajante. Personal encantador de 10.

It has history. The host showed me around the different rooms for photos that went back generations that’s been in the family and what that house’s role served. I loved the futon on a cold morning (March) like a sleeping bag going camping. They do have a heater though, so don’t worry about those cold temperatures. Bathroom works. Nothing broke, well except th heater needed refuel.
I thought they had dinner of some kind, but maybe I was misled by the guest’s photos of tea and cookies. They only provide unlimited tea, coffee and one Fuji-shaped cookie. This is not to say it’s bad, just don’t expect a meal.
But the bath was lukewarm at best. It was relaxing, don’t get me wrong. But I’ve been to the hotel before in Tokyo and the bath was so hot, it was nice. Maybe it was just me, but I was a bit underwhelmed. But look, it’s an old house. You’re not going to get everything. You get what you expect from a relic.

The room is very large with the most beautiful view of Fuji. A friendly family, they greeted us very hospitably and told us the history of the house and family. Very clean, there is a refrigerator, personal towels, hot and cold drinking water, hygiene items, tea and coffee available. The architecture of the house is traditionally Japanese. Bed-mattresses on the floor, very comfortable and convenient. The best wood bath in my life.
The house is built of wood and paper and is very old, which means poor sound insulation.

the people that live there are so nice and very accommodating. i asked for a dinner recommendation and they did not disappoint. they even allowed me to use their shower after my booking had lapsed. as long as you understand that this house is an historical and traditional residence and not expect a modern, westernized form of accommodation, this house will not disappoint

I loved the property cause it is a traditional ancient ryokan ran by a family for generation. The members of the family are really kind and welcomed me with kindness.
Nothing I did not like

Not your typical hostel or Airbnb – this is an old, traditional Japanese house situated along the main street in Fujiyoshida, just over 1 km away from Fujisan train station. Renting a car or bicycle is recommended for getting around. I arrived in the early morning after hiking Mt. Fuji, only to realize that check-in time is at 3 pm – my mistake. The house is managed by a son and his mother, who can communicate only in limited English. However, we managed to discuss my situation, and they allowed me to return at 1 pm for an early check-in. The entire property exudes a sense of history, and the summit of Mt. Fuji can be fully seen from the window of my tatami room (quadruple room), with its peak illuminated by the rising sun at around 5 am – a truly surreal experience.
Do not expect a standard modern experience. Otherwise, it's awesome.

This place is a gem. The family is exquisitely kind and generous. This house has been in their family for 500 years! 🤯. This was my third time to hike Mount Fuji and it so happens that this was one of the locations pilgrims used to start from in the old days. It was truly embodying staying in such a historic location. Not to mention the rooms were traditional and quaint. The facilities were better than those in most guest houses. And they even offered to drive to the onsen when the taxis were busy. Absolutely loved my stay here.
There are too many houses on this street that look similar. At night I kept getting lost but that mostly my problem.

Bathroom is so great, and owner family is so kind that they offered me a drive to my next stop because of the rain.

Room was large by Japanese standards. The bedroom and bathing area very clean.
Good access to start of Fuji walking trail.
In fairness, the room was part of a family household, so it felt that we were "accommodated". Finding the place was not easy for travellers without a vehicle, and it was poorly signposted on the street.

I must say that this was one of the most amazing places I have ever been. The family is so welcoming and you can fell their kindness and hospitality. I have a great time even though it was a rainy day. They offered me a tea when i was checking out for free in late hours and that is so kind and nice.
all was perfect. many thanks.

Our host was really friendly, he showed us around upon arriving. This building is really old, and is a piece of history itself, which makes it unique, almost like a museum. The room where we stayed and the bathroom is really nice. We stayed here at November, so it was generally cold in the building but the heater in our room made the room nice and warm in minutes. And the blankets were super warm.
The location is really good, about 10min walk to Mt. Fuji station.
Nothing really, it was as described. The internet was not the fastest, but good enough for checking mails and social media.

Very attentive staff, I really appreciated the feeling of beeing taken care of. The bathroom is truly wonderful, with plenty of items free to use. You could come just as you are, they provide everything! (apart from clothing). I had the chance to hear about the history of the house from the owner who kindly offered to tell me about it.
I think it was already plenty amazing!

It's a 400+ year old INN with everything as it were originally, including a shinto shrine and sleeping in typical japanese room with paper walls on a futon. It's amazing!
Location is very convienient: close to excellent bakery, forest and everything you might need, with a stunning view of mount fuji just outside of the house
