The location is excellent. Thong Nai Pan Noi is one of the nicest beaches on Koh Phangan, and the room itself was clean and comfortable. After the difficult arrival, the rest of the stay was uneventful, and the manager (Nancy) genuinely tried to make things right, which I appreciated.
Our arrival was one of the poorest hotel arrival experiences I've had. We arrived in the middle of the day in July when the sand was scorching hot. Because guests have to walk through shallow water from the boat, the staff collected everyone's shoes but then expected us to walk barefoot across the burning sand to reception while they walked comfortably in their own shoes. One guest in our arrival group burned her feet badly enough to require treatment.
Even more disappointing was the response. While we were still in obvious pain, reception staff simply continued with the check-in process without acknowledging what had happened, apologizing, or offering something as simple as ice or first aid. I had to ask to speak with the manager. She apologized and offered ice for our feet and complimentary massages, which I appreciated, but I explained that the real issue was improving the arrival process so future guests don't experience the same thing.
Beyond that, the resort never lived up to its premium pricing. We booked one of the most expensive Ocean Front Deluxe rooms expecting a more private beachfront experience. Instead, there were public lounge chairs directly between our room and the beach, making the "oceanfront" experience feel far less exclusive than the marketing suggests.
Throughout our week long stay, the staff were polite, but the service always felt transactional rather than genuinely hospitable. No one went above and beyond, and nothing about the experience justified the premium rates the resort charges.
Ultimately, there are simply too many better managed resorts in Thailand at this price point. Based on our experience, I wouldn't return, nor would I recommend Buri Rasa to friends or family looking for a premium beach resort.
