This was a great property for our family get together. The home was very comfortable and roomy, and the location was great.

Great experience and I will use this property again!

This home is a great place to stay if you have a bigger group as there is lots of space to gather together, but also seek out privacy too. We loved dining room because it easily accommodated our family of 8. The kitchen was well stocked and we loved gathering around the kitchen island to make meals and visit.
The view of the lake was the best from the kitchen, so beautiful and we watched ice fisherman on the lake.
We really enjoyed the neighborhood where the home is located because you could go for nice walks (they have nice sidewalks) to the park on the lake or, if you want to you can even walk into the cute little town to shop or find a restaurant or bar. The house is located far enough away from the Main Street that you wouldn't even know how close you are. The home is old (historic), and maybe could use a little TLC in a few places, but we did not find this to be a problem at all for our stay (just something to be aware of if you are a person who wants "everything to be perfect"). The home was clean and we loved our stay. The owners were wonderful to communicate with and so kind. Thank you!

This property was spacious for 8 people, and lots of space to sprawl out, but also connect.

Hi all, This property is difficult to review because the history, town and neighbors make it hard to say anything bad. And yet those are the very reasons the house deserves more. The word dilapidated will soon be what describes the house if it doesn’t get much needed attention. The roof is in dire need of repair. The inside has quaint touches, but was also dirty …..crumbs in cabinets, Monostat 7 cream left in bathroom that expired in 2009, stained carpet (let alone carpet in bathrooms is unsanitary. So many remnants of others left behind. The outside view was majestic and yet the leaves weren’t cleaned up. The garage is in front of the house with neighbors close by (not what I expected from pictures). My heart is sad to post this as there as is no easy fix for the owners. A good cleaning in and out will help…but water damaged ceilings, sunken roofing, and sloping porch (with birds nests and poop) are costly. Hopefully the house can be saved.

We had a multi generation family gathering here. Great location and beautiful fall colors!

Historic and Quaint are the operative words as you step into what can only be described as a movie set. The expansive and quirky lay out only add to the charm and provided lots of bedrooms for our party of 7, overnight party of 6. Proximity to town provided a little shopping and a stop at the municipal bar as well as the bakery was in order. At night we drank wine by the fire in the great room, and just laughed and caught up.

Jim was very responsive with all our questions. If you are looking for everything to be perfect, this might not be a property for you. This is a historic home with lots of character. Everything works well, no issues. Worked perfect for our group of 11. Plenty of bedrooms to allow everyone their own space. Beds are dated, and are fine, but are not the newest on the market today. Outdoor space is fantastic with a deck overlooking the lake with plenty of seating and grills. Fire pit separate with plenty of seating. Would definately consider staying here again if we were in the area.

Great location less than 1 hour from our home in the Twin Cities. Very close to a public beach that was a hit with the kids (About 2 blocks away). Communications with host easy & efficient. One minor issue from my perspective, a little more significant for my wife, the house could use a deep cleaning.

We rented this for a small rehearsal dinner the night before our wedding and had the wedding party stay the night there. It was the perfect spot! So beautiful by the water and so quaint. Jim was easy to talk to and always available for questions

This is an interesting place to stay because the house has such a unique history. It has everything you need, but keeps a lot of the historic details. We had 6 adults and 3 young children and there is so much space in this house with so many rooms that we all had privacy. We loved the deck overlooking the lake and being able to walk 1.5 blocks to the sand beach and playground. Lindstrom is a cute little town with many things within walking distance. There are a number of things to do within 20-30 minutes also. The proximity to the Twin Cities and being able to bring pets were big bonuses for us. Definitely recommend for large groups! Thanks to owner Jim for answering my many questions.

The house was clean and attractive, had comfortable beds. Kitchen was well equipped with supplies and useful utensils.
Suggestions: grab bars in the baths and another handrail for the steep stairs. Those would help especially senior citizens.

What a treat to have a siblings reunion at Axel's house (Fridhem). We lived two doors away from 1966-1969 and visited frequently. It was fun to reminisce as we gathered at the kitchen island, on the pavilion and around the fire pit. The Great Room is still impressive and what a transformation from the huge attic! Plenty of room in the bedrooms and the beds are super comfy. We did see alot of cobwebs on the front porch (don't know how often a 125+ year old house has to be sprayed for spiders) but didn't spend any time out there.
Thanks Jim & Caryn!

Clean enough for adults and teens but was concerned with how dirty our infant was after crawling on floors.

We had a wonderful time! We loved the character of the house and the property was just what we were looking for. Plenty to do for all ages. We hope to stay again sometime.

We loved the opportunity to participate in the many local activities associated with Karl Oskar Days. To top it off our grandsons were able to get up on skis for the very first time. The location of the property to downtown Lindstrom is perfectly walkable. We are already looking forward to our Summer 2024 stay!

We had a wonderful stay at the Swedish Cottage, it is a very spacious and clean home with lots of charm. The location was perfect, a combination of lake life along with being close enough to explore downtown Lindstrom. Jim was very kind and responsive. We were so happy that we could bring our precious doggies too. We will definitely be coming back!

The house is a Victorian home built in 1895. It was immaculate inside. Large living spaces and multiple bedrooms and baths accommodate a big family. It’s well equipped with just about anything you need., from kitchen and grilling equipment to bug spray, beach and both towels, life preservers for the kayak and canoe, etc. As an old historic home the floors creak and some slope and there are things to replace, but that’s what an old home is about. For one week it was our home and felt like home. The AC was great and cooled the house nicely during a hot week.

Nice historical property. Sufficient space for all 11 of us. Comfortable sleeping and house stayed very cool in 90+ temps.
The dock and beach were quite overgrown. After some back and forth, Jim had me pick up some garden sheers on credit from the local hardware store and trim up the dock. Found the steps to the beach and much fun was had.
Overall, good trip. Jim was good with responses and the weather held out.

Overall the stay was fabulous! We enjoyed the house. The rooms were large and the space worked well for different groups of people. The owners checked in to say hello and were very friendly! The only thing was that the photos of the beach were a little outdated and the sandy beach was very small. There wasn’t room to enjoy the sand but there was a dock that was nice to relax on!

We had 5 couples, 3 toddlers, 1 infant, and 4 newborns - the house was perfect! Lots of indoor space that fit us all well. Easy stroller walks to ice cream, coffee, multiple playgrounds, and the beach! The fenced in backyard is mostly dirt and tree covered, so we spent most of our time in the sunny front yard or at the beach between naps. Would love to stay again!

3rd time staying at the Fridhem, and it has worked well for our group of 6 adult women (in the past , has worked just as well for up to 12 adult women, using some air mattresses). Clean, with a great location. The layout of the home is perfect for a women's retreat, with 2 separate lounging spaces, plus a full dining room and kitchen that can suit a bunch of people standing around the island. ;-)

This was a Christmas ski vacation visiting family in Taylor's Falls. We had two adult parents and 5 adult children. The 5 bedrooms were perfect, the beds were comfortable, the 3.5 bathrooms were clean and very functional. We had our local family over for dinner, 2 adults and 2 children, there was plenty of room to accommodate dinner and games, the hearth room is huge and the wood fireplace is very nice. The TV room is also very roomy. Kitchen served family meals perfectly.
This was one of the best appointed and stocked VRBO's we have stayed in. Jim was very responsive before and during our stay when questions came up. We would definitely stay again.
To the comments below about the condition of the property, it is a building well over 100 years old expect to find some creaking floors and old windows, it is called character.
Thanks again Jim!

Hosts were very helpful & communicative with a beautiful place. Back of the house had a really nice view of the waters and was definitely all a very memorable experience. Information of any questions I had were provided throughout the house and messages by the host. Couldn’t have asked for anything more !

It was a fabulous place for our Fall womens retreat. Great location, great hosts, great weekend.

This home is perfect for our large group of family members, with its spacious bedrooms and other sleep spaces, huge living and dining spaces and tons of CHARM CHARM CHARM!! Spotlessly clean, well organized, and had everything we needed and much more. Jim would answer questions quickly, and made the check in and out process a piece of cake. We hope to return annually for our family reunion.

This place was perfect for our family group of 11. Old yes, and could use a couple updates but that is part of the charm! Lots of room for kids to play! We played lots of board games, did a boat tour on the St. Croix (Taylors Falls, only 15 minute drive) and just enjoyed some much needed family time, celebrating my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. Huge bonus that we could bring our dogs! Thank you for the awesome mini-vacation!

We truly enjoyed our stay while in Lindstrom for our daughters wedding! Plenty of room throughout the house, well stocked kitchen, beautiful views of the lake. Wish we would have had more time to spend to enjoy the lake and scenery. This house reminded me of visiting my grandparents when I was younger! Jim was very wonderful host!

We did have a small problem.
Jim sent someone to fix it and followed up to make sure everything was ok .

Online pictures were probably taken several years ago. The outside of the property is rotting as well as the deck. The outside of the house is very dirty and full of cobwebs. Very limited parking area, uneven / crumbling sidewalks and stairs leading into the home. The inside of the home is in better condition. Really liked having five bedrooms and four bathrooms. Nice furniture inside the home. Sufficient amount of hot water and water pressure. Our favorite part was the outside deck even though some of the boards are rotting, the view and location beneath the trees is beautiful.

Good accommodations for our group of 9 people. Well-stocked kitchen, beautiful setting. Enjoyed a day on the lake with a pontoon from a local business, able to swim from the pontoon when the water on the Swedish cottage's beach was murky and not inviting for swimming. Overall, a very nice time!

The owners were kind and accommodating. Nice spacious interior, well stocked kitchen. Clean, comfortable beds. The exterior is slightly more run down than the pictures, but the interior is very well maintained. We would stay again.

Another great week in Lindstrom. This was our fifth year renting Jim's home and we look forward to it every summer. A wonderful place to gather and partake in lake activities. The new bed in the office was a welcomed surprise!

We thorough enjoyed our stay at your facility. The historic interior was excellent and the spacious layout was great. My only concern was that the exterior features of the property was not as pristine as the photos depicted. Although totally adequate, the closeup weathered look of the exterior wasn’t a strong feature of the property. Overall our stay was very good and we enjoyed the property and close location to downtown Lindstrom. Thx
