4 families stayed here and we had such a lovely time. The peacefulness of the property was great, and lots of places to sit and chat. We used the fire pit almost every night! Being right on the water gave so many options for not getting out. Plenty of activities with the trampoline, kayaks, and boats. Bike rentals close by, and lots of trails. Downtown and shops for Traverse City is about a 15 min drive. Owner met us on sight to make sure all was well. Thank you so much for the stay, and a wonderful place for a family reunion!

We had the BEST time spending long summer days in the Lake and beautiful evenings around the fire pit. We loved all the water equipment that was available - we used it all! The surrounding area is full of activities, shops and restaurants! Thank you for the great memories :)

The house was clean and ready when promised. My husband and I were there with our three adult children, their spouses, and an infant granddaughter. Kurt was communicative upon arrival and checked in with us via email during our stay. The trampoline was awesome! This was a PERFECT house for us. Five bedrooms, three and a half baths, HUGE table for dinner. It comfortably seats 12. The fire pit was great, and again with ample seating. We would definitely stay there again, without hesitation!

Comfortable and well stocked.
Out family of 10 stayed a wonderful week. The location was great close to town and the airport but far enough away to be out of the traffic. The kitchen is well stocked and the beds are comfortable. Check-in was seamless. The grandchildren loved the time on the water and the wonderful water trampoline.

Perfect Location for a Holiday Getaway
We stayed in this home just after Christmas. This home is the perfect location to visit so many local attractions. We stayed comfortably with 2 other families with kids ages ranging from 6-17. We hit area attractions such as Mt. Holiday, Shuss Mountain, Hop Lot and a couple of wineries. We got some snowfall during our stay and the kids all went out and sled down the driveway of the home (we did bring some of our own sleds but also found additional sleds in the garage). At the end of the day we all enjoyed playing games in the living area around the natural fireplace. I would definitely stay here again and can only imagine how much fun this home is in the summer!

We had the best time on our extended family vacation. The place was great and was exactly what we were expecting. Kurt was wonderful. Responded quickly to all of my messages and was extremely helpful when our boat rental fell thru. Plenty to do right on the property and easy day trips to town, Sleeping Bear Dune and the wineries.

On the day of arrival the owner did not respond to my calls or text messages in order to provide a code for the property front door. We waited about 45 minutes until he reached out to us. We had issues entering the home and called him for assistance, after which he generously offered to come assist us with the door. We managed to open the door prior to his arrival, however after he arrived he immediately acted incredibly rude. He acted very arrogant towards us, saying that renting his house must “cost our whole fortune”. When we were inside (prior to his arrival), we noticed the smell of cigarettes coming from the basement, as well as the fact that there was no smoke detector present - we mentioned this to him and he dismissed our concerns. Additionally, the basement had no heat during the duration of our stay. After he left we started unpacking in the kitchen, preparing to cook dinner. We noticed a strong smell in the kitchen. After opening some cabinets we found two dead mice under the sink. A cleaner was eventually sent to remove the mice. We started the dishwasher to clean all the plates and utensils (as it was clear the mice had been near or around them). As soon as we started the dishwasher, however, we noticed a leak. After that we hand washed all dishes and utensils for the duration of our stay. The patio doors (living room) were rotten and had a leak. There was rain all night and there was a large puddle of water inside the living room that we cleaned up after waking up. There was absolutely no water pressure present on the property - if one sink was on then no showers or other sinks could be used. The faucet in the guest bathroom was damaged - usable but needs replaced. Overall there was a horrid lack of communication and there are plentiful items at this property that need addressed.

Great Vacation!
We spent a week at High Lake Hideaway with out daughter, son-in-law and their 4 young boys! Our first impression was how clean the house was! We were also very pleased with the quality of the furnishings, especially the huge dining room table and the comfortable mattresses! The house also came with high quality towels and linens. Besides all of that, our grandsons had a blast fishing off of the dock and using the kayaks and paddle boards! But the biggest hit was the trampoline in the water. We have already decided to rent this property for the same week next year!

Beyond the peaceful lake and fun water toys, Traverse City has fine restaurants and friendly people. The owners, Tammy and Kurt Hobschiender, are a very gracious and went out of their way to make our stay feel perfect

Great house - was perfect for our group of 10!
We loved the house and how close it was to the neighborhood bar. The backyard and the lake was beautiful, especially around sunset. Be sure to bring the additional items they mention in the listing (paper towel, trash bags, ice, etc.) and pay attention to the checkout instructions! We had to start laundry the night before we left but didn't affect our stay at all :)

Great place and even better owners
We have stayed at this location the past 2 years and we are going back again next year.
We had 9 last year with 5 adults taking the 3 upstairs bedrooms and 4 kids in the 2 basement bedrooms. We stayed for 2 weeks this past summer.
The house itself is well laid out for a large group. I like that the basement bedrooms are not directly under the main living room on the main floor. The family room in the basement could hold a lot of kids if you needed that but our group only used the basement for sleeping in bedrooms. With 2 families there was really plenty of room.
The lake is very calm. Perfect for paddleboarding. It's normally quite but you occasionally get a jet ski or motor boat. Not very often. Kids love the trampoline and paddleboarding on the lake. The kids also did some fishing off the dock with pretty good results this past year. We didn't get a chance to interact much with the neighbors. We never saw anyone on the right side (as you look out the back) and the left side was just 2 people most of the time. There are a few people out on the lake normally but it's not busy at all. Some days it feels like you are the only ones there.
You are 15 to 20 minutes from just about anything you might need. Preegos is around the corner. There is a convience store less than 5 minutes away and then Groleau Farm Market and Oleson's food store is 10 minutes away. We could find almost anything we needed at Oleson's but we did also hit Meijer and Sams. Costco is actually closer than either.
The Hubschneider's are amazing hosts. They work so hard on making sure everything is perfect. I would say that even if you don't rent here put Hubschneider and VRBO in google and pick one of their places. We are a pretty self sufficient group but we have been spoiled by how responsive they are to whatever is going on at the property. We just mention something and it seems like they are on it immediately. They know their properties so well too, and are also experts on the area. I just can't recommend them enough. We had never stayed at the same place twice until this place and the Hubschneider's are a big reason why.
