We had a great 3-night stay. Living room and dining room were comfortable and spacious for our group of six to gather, chat, laugh, play games, and eat. Bedrooms were roomy and comfortable with many windows to let in the light. Kitchen appliances and outdoor grill worked well and had all the utensils you would need. Outdoors were nice and natural with a family of deer and many trees. The hot tub worked well and was relaxing to gaze at the squirrels and tree tops and blue sky. Location was great: easy access to Round Barn and St. Julian wineries, public beach about 1 mile, and several nice restaurants and bakeries in town.

This is a well loved property nestled in the middle of mature trees. The pond and fountain outside of the screened outdoor room is just wonderful. Sitting there, taking in the outdoor sounds, having a glass of wine is worth the price of admission. The hot tub just added to the experience. The location is great for exploring local beaches and shops.

Cozy house convenient to downtown Union Pier and New Buffalo. Hot tub was great and well kept. Family room was wonderful space for our family!

We enjoyed a well stocked kitchen and family room area to entertain.
However the grill was quite dirty, did not light easily so didn’t use.
The sump pump ran throughout the night so that fans were necessary during night to drown out the noise.

Our family of 5 adults and 1 toddler had a great time. Very spacious and clean. We were able to make a big family dinner with many of the amenities that were already provided in the kitchen. We enjoyed the hot tub. Our toddler loved the surrounding wooded area for exploring and looking for bugs and frogs. We got some bad weather that forced us inside, but we still enjoyed the screened in porch during the rainstorms. Secluded and private, but still only minutes to the beach, restaurants, breweries, etc

This house was perfect for our party of 6 women. Beds were very comfortable. Nice linens, towels and toiletries. Decor was lovely and inviting. Screened in porch was perfect for coffee in am and wine in the evening. Hope to return!

Paul’s place was really well maintained and beautiful. We were there for 2 nights and upon checking in wish we had booked for longer. It was very clean upon arrival and was cozy for a weekend away. The kitchen had every utensil we could possibly need. The neighborhood was nice and quiet and close to town/the beach. Our favorite spot to hang out was the screened porch and we also enjoyed having a fire pit. The only suggestion I’d have is to have a spare set of sheets available for the day bed as we had someone sleeping on that but everything overall was a great experience and we’d love to come back!

Incredibly comfortable and clean. Its a lovely house for a girls/fam trip. Loved the beds!!

A beautiful house nestled in a very private location with old-growth trees and beautiful landscaping. The kids loved exploring outside, and we ALL enjoyed the relaxing, clean & new hot tub. Easy driving access to all Union Pier has to offer. The home itself is very comfortable (beds included) and roomy. I wish there were an outdoor eating table, but otherwise zero complaints. Everything worked well, well-stocked and appointed interior. 100% would go back.

Gorgeous azaleas were blooming around this cute little house when we stayed first weekend of June. Although there are homes very near by, there is a lot of privacy due to the wooded surroundings.
It was perfect for our girls trip- a mile to Lake Mi, kayaking at New Buffalo, wineries, etc. Great 2nd floor deck restaurant called Stray Dog- we ate there twice.
The screen porch was perfect for morning coffee and evening relaxing. Kitchen was amazingly stocked.
We didn’t use the hot tub or fire pit but those looked great as well.
Also make sure to drive to the Round Barn in Baroda where there is live music all summer on Saturday afternoons! The setting is spectacular!
The rates were still lower at the beginning of June which was nice as well. Otherwise I would consider it to be expensive.
Overall a great experience

My family had a wonderful stay at the cottage. Paul was a great host! The house was clean, spacious, and the kids loved exploring the outdoors. My lil guy was enthralled with the coy pond.
So many great amenities… we went to the beach where the kids made sand castles and then we journeyed to New Buffalo to the shops and great restaurants.
We had a wonderful time and can’t wait to come back next year!

This is by far the nicest VRBO we've ever stayed in. Stylish beyond belief. Very private property but a Short walk to the bakery in the village. Super clean. Massive great room. My husband loved the therapeutic jets in the hot tub before bed. We will be back!

We arrived as planned and discussed with owner, however he was still in the house scrambling to finish up prepping for us. We were fine with that, just figured something happened or someone didn’t show up. However, even though we said he could stay to finish, he said the issue was the dryer and then decided to leave anyway with wet towels inside dryer. The bed upstairs had crumbs in the sheets and the bathroom upstairs had a dirty toilet with what appeared to be dried vomit.
We did not bother calling owner, but do wish he could have been truthful.
1. There was an obvious major leak in one of the bedrooms that had been freshly painted over.
2. The place was not fully cleaned or prepped for our stay.
3. We had clean towels, but the ones left in the washer never did dry….and we didn’t have use of a w/d.
4. The hot tub looked unstable, so we didn’t use it.
5. The downstairs bathroom rug wasn’t even vacuumed or shaken….it was visibly dirty.
6. The back porch had a bunch of stuff (tools, supplies, a half filled.
All in all, we are a pretty chill bunch. But the communication was not great from owner after we arrived. It felt like he took advantage of us not wanting to ruining our weekend by taking up our time making a big fuss. But he knew he didn’t clean the upstairs. And he should’ve taken his damp towels with him. He also never offered to discount anything for dropping the ball. I guess he thought he got away with it? Anyway, not our best rental in Union Pier.

My boyfriend, dog, and I spent a long weekend here, and it was so nice. The house was perfectly comfortable for the two of us, but would accommodate more people if we had a larger group. We liked that it was tucked in the woods, but close to the beach and everywhere else we wanted to go. The house was very clean and Paul was friendly and accommodating. Since our stay less than two weeks ago we have booked two more trips. Highly recommend!

Myself and three adult friends stayed here for tonight with my two puggles! It had the most wonderful lived in, feeling with absolute cleanliness. It was honestly larger than we expected. The hot tub was super easy to use and clean. The kitchen felt like I designed it myself! They had everything we needed to cook meals. There’s a very comfortable leather couch and two chairs with a large screen TV that we were able to gain access to everything we needed. We took the 20 minute walk to the beach and stopped at a local taproom right off the exit that was dog friendly. There’s no doubt about it we will go back so we can use the HUGE fire pit area!!!
Paul was a great host- very clear communication with us throughout the trip!

I’ve stayed at several homes in the area, this was by far the nicest I’ve rented. It was meticulously clean, well appointed and lovely! My family and I had a great stay over the Christmas holiday. The owner was extremely responsive and kind, I cannot recommend enough!

My family and I stayed at the cottage for a long weekend and loved it! The house was awesome, the hot tub was lovely, and the area is super fun. Paul was so accommodating. He promptly answered any questions we had and was incredibly helpful when we forgot something after we left. Thank you!

We really enjoyed every aspect of this rental including the location, amenities, cleanliness and overall charm. Our host was very polite and welcoming, and communicative. We didn't realize the property had a fire pit, but it sure did and a good one and the hot tub did not disappoint. We would happily rent here again!

We did a quick midweek stay, and was our second time at Fiddlehead Cottage. It was exactly what we needed to spend some time relaxing outside the city. We loved the new fish in the koi pond. Even though it was raining, we were able to enjoy the hot tub before bed. Paul was available through text to help with any questions and points of interest we had - and in all was a wonderful host! If we could buy this place we would!

WARNING! PLEASE READ before booking. Paul, last minute, delayed check-in from 4:00 to 5:00. When we arrived, he was locked in the upstairs bedroom where he had a ladder to that bedroom's balcony allowing him to come and go. He said he would finish up in 20 minutes. After several confrontations he left around 9:00. The TV was not working, the hot tub looked ancient and was not functional, the beds (all) were not made and cleanliness was marginal. He told us the hot tub would be fixed the next day but it was not. There were men's cloths in one of the master bedrooms dressers and the master shower was dirty, had missing, ungrouted, tiles and not usable. We were a group of ladies and were a bit shaken by his bizarre behavior that we decided to check all door and window locks. The balcony door lock was broken (yes, the one with the ladder) and the majority of the windows were unlocked. The location and the property was great and I wish we had a better experience, but to be frank, Paul freaked us out. OTHER REVIEWS HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCES. DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE FAKE REVIEWS.

Our family enjoyed staying at the house in Union Pier. The proximity to both New Buffalo and Union Pier makes getting to the beach or shopping a breeze. Just a short drive to wineries, restaurants and the casino made it a great place for a variety of vacationing options,

We really enjoyed our week at Fiddlehead Cottage. The house has lovely rooms and gathering spaces. We loved sitting together on the screened-in porch and eating together at the dining table. The kitchen was well equipped and beds were comfortable. We found interesting and fun places to eat and shop and enjoyed the beach and local hiking.

I love love LOVE Paul's house! Hanging out on the screened in porch was my favorite part. Honestly, it's like I have never felt this relaxed. We went with our 2 daughters who are in their twenties & I our 4 year old doggy. The doggy (Cannoli) loved the sniffs - everywhere we walked! The only 2 things which could have been better are: because the last people checked out late, we could not get in until approx. 7:00 or so at night. I saw this kind of thing in other reviews. Paul was very nice about it. Also, I had read great reviewed about some of the beds. My girls loved the beds on the first floor level. The bed upstairs is very hard compared to my sleep number really extra soft bed at home. This is probably personal preference. Anyway, thank you, Paul! We LOVE YOUR HOUSE.

We enjoyed our time on the property! Only concern is one of the beds wasn't made when we arrived, but the owner quickly took care of that. Overall beautiful house feels very secluded and quiet which is exactly what we were looking for.

Relaxing 4th of July escape
Our group of five family members enjoyed spending the 4th of July weekend in Union Pier. This charming cottage in the woods was cozy and well stocked with cooking and grilling essentials. We rented bikes, which carried us quickly to the lovely nearby beach and local coffee shop. We also went on some beautiful rides along Lake Michigan. Before breakfast we enjoyed coffee in the screened in porch, and before dinner we relaxed in the outdoor hot tub! The beds and bedding were good quality and comfortable, providing a restful sleep. The owner is adding finishing touches to the master suite, but it is comfortable and fully functional during the upgrades. We look forward to returning to this all-season escape!

Perfect stay!
Soaring ceilings, hip furnishings, and a clean, fresh atmosphere made for a wonderful experience. I love the mattress in the upstairs bedroom. While it was too hot outside to use the hot tub, it seems to be well maintained and sparkling clean. Paul was very helpful and quick in getting back to us with restaurant recommendations and beach info. Very private property yet short walk to the village. We look forward to returning!

We arrived at the property at 4pm which was check in time. We were greeted by a man that was cutting tile in the backyard. He yelled up to the owner, who was in the bathroom, to let him know we were there. The man moved the car in the driveway and told us they would be working for two more hours. We were able to pull our cars in the driveway and put our things on the first floor while they were working upstairs. The doors to the master bedroom/bathroom that they were tiling upstairs were closed. The owner didn’t talk to us to explain what was going on. They were using a ladder from the outside to access the second floor and told us we had the entire first floor for our use.
We headed to a local restaurant to wait for the house to be ready at 6:00pm. We returned from dinner to find them still at the house. When we entered the house, two of us went upstairs to knock on the master bedroom door to find out when they would be done. The owner said they were finishing up and that it would be soon. We asked if we would be able to use the bathroom and the owner said yes because he was using quick dry grout. Ha! It was very strange and unsettling to be in the house with the two men, so we went outside and sat around the firepit in the front of the house.
At 8pm, the men were still there. Two of us went upstairs to see what was going on. When we opened the door, the owner yelled “Don’t come in…I’m not decent” and peaked his head around the door. He had no shirt on and was standing behind the door and we could not tell if he had clothes on below that. He assured us again that he would be done shortly. Finally at sunset, 9pm, we reached our limit. Two of us knocked on the door and told the owner that we needed them to leave. At this point, we told him we understood we would not be able to use the master bedroom/bathroom, we just wanted them to go. His response again was “I’m just finishing up”. We asked him again to please leave and he said, “No, I want you all to leave. Pack your bags and leave. I’ve been working hard to get this ready for you and I don’t want you here anymore”.
While we packed up a weekend’s worth of food and personal items, the second man sat next to the fire and sang to himself. We all drove down to the restaurant down the street to regroup and figure out where the hell we were going to stay that night.
This was a scary situation for four women and this owner should not be trusted.

The weekend started with the owner delaying check in time by 'one hour' since he and his contractor were finishing up construction on the master bedroom bath upstairs. Initially, we were patient as we had access to the entire first floor. However, as the hours passed with the construction ongoing, the situation became unsettling. They left well after11:00PM via a ladder in the back of the home off the 2nd floor terrace. They did not let us know they were leaving, nor did they provide an update on the status of the construction. In addition , they left the master suite locked, denying us entry. The owner did provide a partial credit for the first night given the delay and inconvenience. However, we paid for (and needed) a 3 BR, 2 Bath home and actually only got a 2 BR, 1 Bath home. The house is beautiful though not very clean and clearly in need of repair. We made the best of a strange situation but wound up leaving a day early due to the cramped conditions. Not the relaxing time away we expected. Disappointing, as our friends traveled from far away to be there.

Lovely Getaway!
This was a wonderful weekend away! The house, hot tub, location were ideal for a relaxing time away!
The master bed is one of the most comfortable beds in the world; the mile walk to the beach was extremely pleasant; the house had most things one would want, need, or expect! The host was extremely kind and quick with replying to questions and wonderings.
The only thing I would say... The house is under minor renovations (which will be lovely when done) but that was new news to us. The renovations did not hinder our stay in this beautiful place and yet, it is good to know!
