About this cabin rental
The Lake Superior Barn is a 4,250 sq. foot home with 4 bathrooms and accommodations to easily sleep 20 people in the 6 bedrooms and 15 beds…. lakesuperiorbarn.com. (see more here.) It is designed to accommodate multiple families with open bathrooms and individual toilets and showers. The home is just 30 minutes east of Duluth on the sandy south shore of Lake Superior. Lake Superior Barn rests on 320 acres of remote wilderness and a sandy beach. The home sits on the south shore of Lake Superior, staring across the lake to the North Shore cities of Duluth and Two Harbors whose lights twinkle in the distance at night. The property is completely surrounded by the Brule River State Forest so there is not another home on the Lake Superior shoreline for miles… Enjoy the secluded sandy beach or walk it like an ocean looking for beach-glass. Listen to the waves crash or swim in the cleanest of all the Great Lakes where the temperature can reach 60 or 70 degrees in the shallow, sandy bottom water. Warm up to a driftwood fire or roast s'mores on the waterfront. Once back to the house, wash the sand off your feet in the outside shower while taking in the 180 degree view of Lake Superior. Enjoy the 1600 sq foot reclaimed deck just outside the beautiful kitchen and a pantry with all the extra ingredients and spices you may have forgotten. Build a fire with firewood provided in the stone fireplace or have a fire on the bluff watching the sun set or lay in a bean bag and pick a book to read from the stocked bookshelves in the loft. Lake Superior Barn has 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and 3 showers built from the reclaimed lumber, steel and iron nails of 7 turn of the century Minnesota barns. The game room has radiant concrete heat to warm your toes as you play ping pong, shuffle board or lounge on the couch to watch a movie on the Apple TV.... over 1500 movies for rainy days! The Lake Superior Barn is a unique and rustic experience... there is a TV, but no satellite or cable TV... plenty of cards, books and boardgames! We do have APPLE TV... like a large iPod with 1500 movies, TV shows & music. There is no WIFI, but cell service is generally reliable. The Lake Superior Barn sits on 320 private acres of forest, wander deer trails or swim in Haukkula Creek that flows the length of the property. Pick raspberries and wild strawberries in the summer or snowshoe the woods and trails in the winter… either way, you will never encounter another person on the private and secluded land. End the day by building a fire while overlooking Lake Superior and watch the summer sun set over the hills of Duluth. Close to areas like the Duluth, the Apostle Islands, Bayfield and the scenic South Shore of Lake Superior... or canoe the Brule River... the Lake Superior Barn is a remote getaway from a hectic life. this is our third time staying here! I brought my boyfriend, my three sons and three of their friends and we had a great time - we made meals there and just enjoyed the property and the hot tub and sauna! Fantastic time!

We had 18 people across 3 generations at the Barn for Christmas- it was wonderful.

We have stayed at the Barn a couple times. It holds a special place in our hearts. It is a fantastic place to enjoy family and friends. We hope to go back again someday.
The space was very clean. The response and help given from the care takers was amazing. All questions were answered immediately. Everyone we have brought to experience the Barn has had a wonderful time and memories will be forever!

20 of us stayed at The Barn and had an amazing three nights! The decor and atmosphere are great, and there are so many options of things to keep you busy - hot tub, sauna, fires, board games, puzzles, shuffleboard, ping pong, the list goes on. The views are gorgeous, and it’s a small walk down to the beach. We’d come back!

The weather was a bit cold. But it made the hot tub, sauna and fireplace even more appreciated.
The view over Lake Superior was fantastic.
The Barn/house was a great setting for enjoying visiting as a family!

We had an amazing weekend with our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren celebrating our 70th birthdays and our great-granddaughter’s 4th birthday! The weather wasn’t the best, but we still enjoyed the lakeshore, hot tub and sauna. And, there was plenty of room inside to spread out and play games, watch a movie, curl up with a good book and, of course, eat. We all came away with wonderful memories and would love to return some day!

What a perfect experience at this beautiful VRBO! We had around 15 in our group and thoroughly enjoyed the space both indoors and outdoors. The property manager and owner were both vey responsive throughout our time if we needed help/input.

What an amazing, unique place. Lots of activities and lawn space for games. Amazing views and access to a private sand beach on Lake Superior. Great for large groups / family reunion location.

Lake Superior Barn was the perfect retreat after an exploring the beautiful area around Maple.

We just recently stayed here for 5 nights to celebrate my mother-in-law with our extended family. To say this property was magical is an understatement. With our large group there was plenty of space from kids to adults to enjoy. The views of lake Superior are phenomenal. The property managers were amazing as well answered all our questions and were so helpful. The outdoor hot tub and sauna was a hit for our entire group and the beautiful trail down to the lake was well taken care of. The beach at the lake was also wonderful we did a lot of rock hunting, kids playing in the sand and making clay pots, had a campfire on the beach it couldn't have been a better trip. To say this place was spiritual wasn't doing it justice it will always have a special place in our hearts after our visit and we are already planning a trip back again. Thanks for such a special place to spend with our family!

The building and land are quite impressive. The listing doesn’t do the beach area justice. We spent lots of time down there. The owner and the caretaker were very responsive. We enjoyed our stay.

Our family of 18 enjoyed the property and the cool barn. Campfires and hot tubbing, swimming and searching for glass on the beach. Our 9 grandkids loved every part of the vacation. There was plenty of room for all of us and we especially enjoyed the large deck. We could have used air conditioning on some days. The fly population was our biggest negative. The cabin was well stocked! If you are looking for a quiet rustic experience, this was a great place! We would recommend.

We had a fabulous time at the barn. Our adult children and our 80 year old parents all gathered together for a week to remember. Between the yard games, board games and just good old fashioned outdoor fun, there was never a lack of something to do. The lack of WiFi and no need to have phones was scary at first for some, but everyone agreed at the end was a true gift! The kitchen was well equipped and the outdoor grill and blackstone were used daily. Kris and her husband took wonderful care of us all. If you come with older individuals there are some tricky stairs but we were able to keep everyone safe with an extra hand here and there. The hot tub takes a bit to heat up but my son in laws enjoyed firing it up each day. We would definitely visit again!

We spend 3 days at this property with friends and family. We had a blast and pictures definitely don’t do justice. This place is absolutely amazing.
Thank you for the great experience.

Great place for family and friends. It actually has a summer camp feel to it. Fun little trails all over the property. It’s a fantastic place to take a break from the world and say goodbye to stress.

Went here for a low key bachelor party and got exactly what we wanted out of the place, really secluded property, amazing cabin and had everything we needed. Couldn’t ask for a better spot for a low key weekend. Even had a few of our parents ask for the link because they wanted to bring their friends up there after we showed them all the pictures we took from our weekend.

Perfect place for our extended family to celebrate my daughter’s graduation from UMD. Weather was cold and rainy but we were able to have a great time indoors playing board games, Shuffleboard, ping pong and sitting around the fireplace. The hot tub and sauna were also a hit. Beautiful accommodations, comfy beds and well equipped kitchen. Will definitely find another time to stay at the barn!

This property was everything that we were looking for and more! The views were absolutely beautiful. We had a very intimate wedding ceremony for our son and new daughter. We were exactly at 20 and this charming barn house was perfect! Plenty of room for everyone. The home has everything you need and the game room was a hit along with the sauna and hot tub. Communication was excellent with the owner and caretaker. We plan to stay here again :)

We can't adequately express our satisfaction with this place other than to say we'll be back next year and are already in the process of booking. It was a heavenly space for a large group of friends to wear pajamas all weekend and enjoy each other's company. The kitchen has EVERYTHING we could have ever needed to cook, the space was so comfortable for lounging or playing games, the property was gorgeous. We hiked a lot. The authentic sauna was so therapeutic. We can't wait to come back, again and again.

This was a great place to gather for our family reunion. Lots of space for kids to play. Kitchen was well stocked and the perfect size for our large group. Having 2 refrigerators was awesome! The game/TV room was a great place to hangout and play games. All the bedrooms were comfortable. We skiied some of the trails and walked down to the lake. Beautiful country! Would highly recommend.

Had a great experience here maxing out the 20 attendees as a group of all adult women enjoying a weekend long slumber party. We had plenty of space to spread out inside. Everyone enjoyed the sleeping arrangements, no fighting for showers or bathrooms as there were plenty!
The outdoor space was amazing as we brought our own snow shoes and hiked the trails and woods. It was fun to build our fires both inside for living room and outside for the 2 fires that heat the sauna and hot tub. Sauna and hot tub were a great way to spend time outside hearing the lake waves crash and had a family of eagles soaring overhead with hot cocoas in hand. We are rebooking for next year and hope to make this an annual event.

We had our very small wedding family gathering at the barn. If it weren’t for it being a very special occasion, I would be upset at what we got for the price. I think the most frustrating part were the property manager and the owners hovering to make sure we didn’t have more than 20 people on the property, even though before even booking, I had been emailing with the owner to make sure it was ok. We paid nearly $4000 for a weekend and they decided to micromanage our guests? It was obnoxious.
Pros:
-beautiful remote location!
-comfy beds
-lots of spaces in the barn
Cons:
-hot tub was absolutely disgusting, unchlorinated dirty water, would take all day to heat it up and was also told to bring our own wood for it. We had one look at the water and completely dismissed using it, which is unfortunate because we were very much looking forward to it.
- awful metal dishes and mason jars as cups which were also put away dirty, gross — I get they're trying to have a “rustic” aesthetic, but doesn’t cross well with “luxury” prices.
- we were also told to bring our own toilet paper? Again, obnoxious request for a “luxury” quite expensive stay.
-the couches by the fireplace were gross, in poor condition and skeptically clean.
Overall, at the price it costs to stay at this property, we would NOT recommend it. It is certainly a beautiful place to stay, but it is far from luxury, very rustic feeling.
We left feeling annoyed. I think all the little things could have been looked past, but we felt like we were sneaking around having a few friends over while our parents were out of town with how hovery the owners and property manager was.

Lake Superior Barn is a very special and unique property. The grounds and view are majestic. Our large group of kids play all day in the large front lawn and then zip down to the lake for more playing and exploring. The hot tub and sauna are enjoyed by all. It's an awesome place!

4 families met at the barn on a cold November weekend. We absolutely loved everything about the barn! The views are stunning! We sat in front of the wood burning fireplace from breakfast until dinner and it was so relaxing! The kids had never met before the weekend and they loved playing games, reading, and eating by the fire! We have never started a wood burning hot tub or sauna before and all of us adults loved getting them working. The hot tub and sauna felt amazing! We also loved walking along the beach to find rocks and sea glass! The house is absolutely gorgeous and we just loved our weekend there!

The barn is gorgeous and the property is just as beautiful. My family of 4 stayed first week in October so we enjoyed a lot of outside and lake time. The beds were plenty comfy...we only used 2 bedrooms on the main living area. This is a great place to stay and really enjoy quality family time. The lake was gorgeous and like glass when we visited...some really beautiful sunsets!! The sauna and hot tub were fun too. Caretakers checked in with us next day as we arrived late in the evening. No complaints. Only suggestion is the kitchen is starting to show its age esp the appliances. Thank you for a great time at the barn!

We enjoyed a long weekend stay with a small group of family for an intimate wedding at the Barn. The accommodations were perfect for our family of all ages (1 - 80 years old). Plenty of room for everyone to be comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked with everything you could possibly need and the deck was perfect for enjoying the lake breezes. We loved the snorkel tub and sauna, plenty of firewood was provided to get both extra warm for enjoying star gazing. The private beach was perfect for sea glass searching and rock collecting. There is lots of trails to explore and enjoy. The barn was truly a hidden gem along the shore of Lake Superior. The owners and caretakers were excellent to work with, very responsive and helpful. The lack of Wi-Fi was perfect to truly disconnect and enjoy every moment of our stay. We plan to be back in the near future!

We absolutely loved the barn. Couldn’t think of one thing that we would like to change. Our group had a great time taking hikes, enjoying the scenery and spending hours in the game room. We will be recommending this to all of our friends and family. We are grateful for the memories we made and can’t wait to come back! Thank you!

This property is magnificent! Beautiful views everywhere. Plenty of space for everyone. Didn't like the walk to the beach but once there, worth it. The house is huge and never felt closed in. It is a little run down and needs a facelift. Old ugly furniture. Towels were beat up, mismatched and ugly, floors uneven and subject to stubbing your toe, tripping, or can get a sliver. You have to take your shoes off to come inside so bring slippers. Rotting wood on kitchen floor and on the deck. So dark inside. If you need light in the bathroom to put on makeup or whatever, bring a light. Hot tub ok but a lot of work. Its like taking a bath with others lol! Very overgrown with weeds towering around it. Definitely not like the pics we saw. Fire pit is a walk to get to and just logs or old picnic tables to sit on so bring chairs. No ice machine as was mentioned in the listing which was a huge bummer. For the money we paid, we expected a little luxury and pampering as we had from other VRBO'S that were less expensive. Would not recommend for those not able to walk or do stairs.

Obviously the location was amazing. We loved the privacy. Lake Superior did not disappoint. Campfires at sunset - wow! Hot tub and sauna were used a lot. Big yard area for family games. Nature being nature - the flies inside were annoying to say the least. We were grateful for the large fans on our hot days and loved sleeping with open windows on cool nights. Well stocked kitchen. Sleeping arrangements worked for 19 of us. Outdoor shower was the best! Proximity to Duluth was good for a boat trip. It was a good place to make family memories!

The week long Barn experience was the perfect secluded quiet get-away for our large family. We ENJOYED beach fun, kayaking, campfires, sunsets, sitting in the hot tub and sauna, exploring the surrounding woods and watching ships travel past into the twin harbors.

Family Reunion
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on this beautiful property. We had a week long family reunion. Great accommodations. Only negative was the water, hardly drinkable, we bought bottled. Also, dish washer did a poor job on washing dishes.

Very secluded and beautiful.
A very unique spacious cabin. The property was very beautiful. The sunsets were amazing over Lake Superior. We saw a porkupine sleeping in tree right by the deck! Sadly, no WiFi. Also the trails on the property were very poorly maintained so unable to hike there.
