Beautiful setting, beautiful hotel and very comfortable. Staff very pleasant and polite. Food was excellent and value for money.

Pot of tea and coffee wasn't hot enough at breakfast.. As most hotels, difficulty getting socket close enough to access a mirror to dry hair.

Beautiful location by the river

We were unable to have dinner on the premises as hadn’t pre-booked - this was not set out as essential in pre-arrival info. Lots of single use plastic throughout the hotel (toiletries, jams etc) which is unnecessary. Bathroom fittings need an upgrade - or at least try to remove all the black mould around the taps and tiles.

We have been taking a winter break here for number of years now but unfortunately it seems desperately quite now which reflects in an almost awkward atmosphere. That together with the miserable strange looking gentleman who seems to have now taken over the bar and restaurant makes for disappointing at best

The grounds of the hotel and local area are very beautiful and the hotel is in a fantastic location for walks and scenery. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The hotel itself needs a major refurbishment. Very tired room with old and dirty decor. Lamps in room were filthy, spots of suspect dirt on the walls, telephone was old and yellowed and the room sported a comically sized postage stamp of a TV that must have been purchased atleast 15 years ago (fans of The American Office might enjoy it though as it reminded me of Michael Scott's plasma TV). Its an old hotel so it was expected, but you could hear everything and everyone outside the room. Not a big issue (again, we expected it with it being an old building) however, hearing vacuums at 8am outside the room wasn't exactly a great way to wake up. Bed itself seemed to be comprised of two single beds pushed together and as such meant there was a slight dip in the middle and we didn't get the comfiest of sleeps. Bathroom itself was ok but again, a bit dated. The dinner at the hotel was ok at best. Fiancée had a juice with dinner which had some kind of leafy objects floating in it (which was promptly changed by the staff). The starter I had, had an odd dressing on the salad which left the food tasting a bit tangy and a bit inedible, but the mains of Chicken and Haggis was nice. Again, the decor in the dining area could do with a spruce up. Lots of wonky pictures in need of straightening and tired looking furniture. The breakfast the next morning was unfortunately not great. The first plate I picked up for the buffet was dirty and the juice bar ran out of glasses. There was also a very suspect looking yoghurt bowl that may have been used the day before and fridged as there was cracked dried yoghurt on the edges of the bowl. We also weren't asked if we would like tea or coffee with our breakfast due to the staff on the floor being run ragged (we were in the breakfast area for about half an hour).

The weather and location

WE felt that Covid was being used as an excuse for reduced and inferior services. The dining room was not open in the evenings with dinner being served in the bar annexe or Bistro. The same menu was served both evenings. Breakfast was self service, which was fine, the food being kept hot in bain maries, but totally ruined with only cold plates provided. No yoghurts, a poor selection of fruit, and no cold meats or cheese.

Nice location beautiful building

Food was disappointing had the lamb curry was meat with gravy totally bland. Drinks are very expensive £2.60 for a lime and soda water. Nearly £8.00 for a G&T. Bathroom needs an upgrade plus our toilet handle broke had to use loo down the corridor. The staff were really nice but there wasn't many of them and they looked a bit run of their feet.

Found medication on my room floor from previous guests. I informed the front desk staff.

It was a lovely room with a super view of the Tweed. Friendly staff and very nice evening meal.

There wasn't any coffee or tea making facilities in the room. We weren't able to get breakfast until 8.45am because it was busy.

Pleasant staff. Nice room which was clean and comfortable. Evening meals were enjoyable.

We were allocated a room on the first floor which was satisfactory as there was a lift but on the second day the lift broke down. As my husband is disabled with mobility problems this caused real problems. The lift wasn't repaired till the third day and even then it broke down again. Breakfasts were a bit hit and miss. Toast was served without butter or jam/marmalade, coffee was never really hot and scrambled eggs were like no other scrambled eggs i have ever tasted. Would have appreciated help with luggage as my husband was disabled.

staff are lovely and helpful. Food is amazing.

the hotel is pet friendly which is fine but thought owners could leave pets in their room rather than bring them in the restaurant with them at night.

Staff, receptionist etc all very friendly and professional. Rooms comfortable and breakfast very nice.

TV was very small in room. Little bit chilly at times
