Yama no chaya is an incredible ryokan! My husband and I stayed there for our honeymoon and had an incredible experience. It's a 15 min walk from Hakone Yumoto station or a 5 min bus ride. This was useful for our arrival/departure as well as getting places for the Hakone Loop. When we arrived it was raining and the staff came down to the bridge to meet us as we were walking up to the property to take our luggage and give us umbrellas. The property is clean, cozy and calm. Their bar and public onsens have lovely views and ambiance. It was also the calm we needed after a busy time in other locations in Japan. The woman who took care of us, setting up our breakfast and kaiseki, bringing drinks, and making sure we were enjoying our stay was extremely accommodating and a lovely host. Speaking of the food - it was so tasty and we were stuffed by the end of each meal! The view from our room was magical - watching the rain and looking out at the trees on the mountainside. The private onsen in our room as well was incredible! The sliding doors opened up fully to that same green mountain view, which was so serene. When it was time to leave, it was raining and proving difficult to get a taxi and so the owner personally drove us to the station - going above and beyond our expectations. Yama no chaya made our honeymoon a truly unforgettable experience and I would highly recommend it to others.

Absolutely beautiful property, the room, the onsens and the service was all brilliant. Very intimate, small and unique experience.

Sadly the food wasn’t to our liking! You need a very adventurous pallete however this wasn’t the host’s fault as it was traditional food. They even accommodated a western breakfast the next day!
