A very good hotel, with extremely kind staff, and the hosts are very welcoming and give you the impression that they are your friends. We came here with toxic food infection from another hotel, and the managers were very nice and attentive to make us feel as good as possible. The hotel is extremely close to The Rock, a 5 minute walk to the beach and can be seen directly from the beach. It's worth getting there at least once to take a picture, but the food is better at the hotel restaurant and it's not expensive. We stayed here for 4 days, during which we tried almost every food they have on the menu and I can say that it is very tasty (they also have an extremely good pizza). The bungalow we stayed in was very clean, just like in the pictures. A small suggestion, to bring adapters for UK socket with you if you are traveling from Europe. The place is very quiet, with a very beautiful beach and without much seaweed. Also, in the area there are not so many Maasai people or people who will approach you with excursions. The hotel offers you different packages with excursions that can be taken directly from them without having to resort to all kinds of locals who may not offer you the same safety or trust. They can also call you a taxi to get to different places on the island, as well as transfer from/to the airport with one of the best drivers, Mustafa. It is a hotel that I recommend with confidence, a hotel that I definitely want to come back to, where you can relax and enjoy the Zanzibar vibe that it offers you, combining the modern with what it offers you the island.

What a wonderful place to stay! Baladin is a beautiful family run hotel where Nicole, Rachid and the team (including the four legged hosts, Leon, Ginger and Jackie) made us feel nothing less than at home for the entire week - simply put, hospitality at its finest. The bare wood aesthetic marries fantastically with the beachfront location and stunning rooms. There is a sense of tranquility throughout, from the rustically styled bathrooms to the sea view from the pool. We found that the food in the hotel restaurant was the best in the area (after trying a few other restaurants nearby we kept coming back to eat at Baladin). We loved all the excursions that Nicole and Azita recommended and I particularly liked how the excursions were all operated by super friendly locals from Pingwe. From the initial airport pick up to the taxi ride back to Stonetown - and all trips out of the hotel in between - we built a great relationship with our driver, Mustafa, and it really emulated the whole ethos of the Baladin stay. We would both really like to thank Baladin once more for our fantastic trip.

location and poolside are just wonderful. pictures are totally realistic, nice area - Ocean is great, near to starfish area and Rock restaurant is 100 meter. good ambient. perfect place.

outside bathroom would be better with mosquito net and the regular lack of the food/drinks in restaurant

Amazing staff, beautiful scenery, organised everything for us, snorkelling trips etc. Was perfect.

The only thing was that the pool turned my white swimming costumes green! But think it was just the chlorine.

-Best beach experience in Zanzibar: Swim during high tide or during low tide you can explore wildlife in coral reef or walk further out to sand dunes where you can relax in crystal clear water or swim. -Hotel decor & ambiance: Most unique hotel I’ve stayed in my life. We really enjoyed all the unique lounge areas and the outdoor bathroom. The design is such a great value for the hotel price. This place was made for photos. -Location: Stay here if you plan to eat dinner at The Rock. The hotel is walking distance along the beach. The beach is also lined with other restaurants and activities. If that’s not enough, the hotel has a ton of reasonably priced pre-arranged activities. We were able to tell the beach hawkers no firmly because we already booked through the hotel. -Very Communal: The owner, Nicole, is very kind and welcoming. She set us up with activities and gave us the tour of our room. She’s present on site if you ever need anything. People often hang out in the restaurant in the evening which gives it a community, home-y feel.

There are a few animals around the property (dog & cat) so keep that in mind if you are wary of animals. Otherwise, everything was amazing.

The owner (the woman) is extremely rude and dismissive- we even got into a back and forth because I requested for an iron at 8pm and she said house keeping is closed and I should have known what I was going to wear before 4pm. she also lied and said the hotel is 3 star when in actual fact it’s 4-5 stars on google. she just made ALOT of excuses. then went to say they don’t have an iron behind the reception because we are in Africa- which I found extremely offence as a black African who doesn’t see the correlation as I’ve visited many African countries and they have irons behind the till. they may not have one in every room but there is one available on request- extremely unnecessary comment. thankfully her partner was there and offered to get the key for housekeeping at home and bring me an iron. Very nice and friendly man. the lights went off twice. rooms are very dark so bring a ring-light if you want to do your make up at night there’s no meat on the breakfast menu (funny because it’s free if you stay there assuming it’s to save costs)

Me and my partner have been to many different hotels on Zanzibar - Baladin is on our top 3 list. Reasons are the excellent location at a beautiful beach, the really nice rooms which is very well kept, the amazing food from the kitchen and the really friendly and caring staff. We will very certainly return again. Other plus points: Not many Massai on the beach, which can be a real hassle in other areas. Other food options nearby in case you do want to change things up - although this is one of the best spots to eat at. Rooms are pretty big so can very comfortably host a couple with 2 kids or a group of friends. Other than that the place is perfect for romantic getaways. The whole operation runs very smoothly - might be due to the steady hand of the Swiss Manager and her partner - in anyways you can see things are taken care of.

Really hard to even name one thing. From start to finish we thoroughly enjoyed outselves! Something for them to recommend: Maintanance of some of the smaller things on the property - wooden path along the beach and its lights need some fixing, paint job around some parts of the pool - but its really small details.

It is very important for me to have sea view room whenever i travel to an Island, when i booked, the bungalow description was (sea view ) however it was not . all bungalows in the property are called ( sea view ) however only few of them do have sea view.

The pool, the design, the beach, the privacy, the food and drinks variety. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

We had a rat enter our room and wake us up in the middle of the night, also found feces under our bed. When we spoke to the owner about it, she claimed it is not her responsibility and it's our fault bringing food into the room (a closed package of crackers inside our backpack, we didn't know was there even). They did tell us when we checked in not to leave food outside of the fridge because of "ants". Following a visit in our room, the owner said not to worry because it is just mice poop and not rat poop under our bed. What a relief 🤦🏻‍♀️ we found more feces on the next night as well after they cleaned.

Great location on a quiet stretch of beautiful beach. Not far (~15mins) from a busier, more livelier Paje. Tasty restaurant food. Friendly staff. Nearby sand bank when the waters recede as well as a great spot for snorkelling nearby too.

Breakfast was tasty but seemed quite basic. The hotel offers excursions which we found were rather pricey.

Love the accommodations. The villas are perfect. I also loved the dining area. There were lots of places to lounge around. It's literally right on the beach.
