Beautiful historic hotel. Lots of history. The dining room is gorgeous and the breakfast was really good. Rooms are small but that was expected. They are nicely decorated in the era of the building. There was a space type heater in the room which worked fine. Maybe the radiator doesn’t work anymore..Shower was strong and water was warm. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and had the added benefit of learning about the history of the building and the architect, Julia Morgan.

This was are first time with BCC, but certainly not the last! We certainly, were Impressed with the staff and the hotel ambiance, it is truly Julia Morgan’s, Little Castle!

For the amount of rooms the hotel has there is no where near enough parking for guests. Other than that is was a good stay.

...a great fan of the Berkeley Club ...one or two observations...check in was a little slow, seemed as though the desk was a little short handed at the check in time of 3pm...also, water pressure on floor 6 was a little weak, probably due to everyone wanting to shower @ 7am, as I did...
...minor points though...have always really liked the place...

Lovely original Julia Morgan designed facility. Food was excellent and the pool was awesome.

This is an historic building; one cannot deny that. Unless your home is historic, however, you may not be aware of all that the "historic" label entails, including: small rooms, almost zero available outlets, really tricky climate control [the radiator had a vendetta against my sleep habits], small beds, tiny bathrooms with zero counter space. Now, fans of "historic properties" will tut tut these concerns, and that's lovely! For the rest of us, know before you buy...

Overall this was a wonderful stay! Absolutely beautiful grounds, very helpful staff, amazing array of amenities (longer you stay the more you find!) and very well maintained. The only thing I think it's important to know is that the room are quite outdated - very clean and nice - but outdated, which makes sense given the history and aesthetic of the whole place. Check their site for events and experiences during your stay because there are always tons. And the breakfast was fantastic :)

The shower is slow and water gets hot and cold as opposed to remain stable.

We loved seeing this iconic property designed by Julia Morgan. We had a lovely time in the Morgan Room before and after our dinner. We were given a complimentary drink ticket at Morgan’s. In the morning there was a delicious continental breakfast with Quiche Lorraine and other delicious items. The staff was very personable and accommodating.

Very much enjoyed staying in this classic hotel. Designed by the same architect that designed Hearst Castle, It has beautiful public spaces with beautful carved wood and tile. The rooms are old with fixtures from the 1920's or 30's but comfortable and functional. Staff was friendly; breakfast included and was a step above the Hampton Inn style breakfast. The hotel is dark in part because of the dark wood but also because of the lighting-perhaps some LED lighting might help that. Location is spectacular-two blocks from UC Berkeley campus but surprisingly quiet. Our room had a view of the Bay. I would gladly stay there again. The place has character.

What a beautiful and historic structure! We very much enjoyed our stay which felt like a step back in time to an era of elegance. Breakfast was bountiful and delicious.

This is one of the more amazing hotels at which I’ve ever stayed. It is certainly not modern but he architecture, of the 1920s, is profoundly developed. I think it’s like riding the Pullman cars of the 1950s. One has to be adaptable but if one is such it is hands-down the place to stay in Berkeley or perhaps the West Coast. I give it a 10+ rating.

The Berkeley City Club is truly a landmark of Moorish design by architect Julia Morgan. The public spaces are beautiful, gracious and comfortable. The rooms are on the small side, but clean and comfortable, and the original bathroom had good water pressure, which makes up for the old style fixtures. As long as you're prepared to be in a historical building, without a ton of fancy modern amenities, and you bring your bathing suit so you can SWIM in the GORGEOUS mosaic swimming pool, you will have a great time!

So, I am admittedly an architecture nerd, so staying here has been on my bucket list. This place is an absolute gem, staying here is like staying with your stylishly genteel great-aunt who hasn't changed in 50 years. The staff are amazing, the food is great, didn't get a chance to swim in the amazing pool but boy is it cool.... perfect mattress, great linens and pillows, just a great hotel experience. The club atmosphere with lots of gracious seating throughout is really pleasant. The members of the club are quite tolerant of the guests, everyone was very pleasant and gracious.

Very unique historical building. Food was amazing and all was expected for an historical setting. Tiny rooms with all the accommodations. No TV but that was expected and we were there only one night so no problem.

The building is gorgeous. Rooms are small, as I expected, but they are very clean and our stay was quiet and peaceful. The building itself has so much to offer, if you are a history buff/Julia Morgan fan. The pool and gardens are enchanting. We arrived late in the evening on a Thursday night and the front desk clerk was amazing. She was so kind and welcoming. Put us at ease immediately. The other staff members we ran in to while checking things out were just as friendly and pleasant. Such a cool place!

Loved this hotel! So much character and history. If you appreciate great architecture, you will love it. If you prefer a tv and newness of a chain hotel, don’t stay here. So convenient and walkable to campus. Glad we found this gem and will stay here again!

Loved staying in this historical hotel. Beautifully maintained. Rooms have been updated but keeping with the period. Breakfast was wonderful. Wish we’d thought to bring our swim suits to take a few laps in the indoor pool. Walking distance to Cal Berkeley campus. Will stay here again next time we visit Berkeley.

Great historic hotel, designed by Julia Morgan. Felt like living in Hearst Castle.

The Berkeley City Club is a classic. Stunning architecture, and the swimming pool...stunning. The hotel looks as it has been left in time to be as stunning as it was when built. If you want all the amenities you might receive at The W or Omni...not for you. No television, just an amazingly comfortable bed and classic bathroom in its original form. The complimentary breakfast was also delicious. Thanks Berkeley City Club! I'll be back.

Beautiful building, but none of the following: no tv in rooms, no vent in bathroom, heater in room is old, outdated and non working. Room was next to the elevator, was noisy all night. Julias restuarant server Aiden was fabulous but Veal was dark cooked & it was dry, none of the dinner was worth $100.00. It was awful.

The Berkeley City Club is a historic gem! We felt like we were walking into the past! The building, shaded courtyard, indoor pool, tile work and architecture were truly inspiring! I would 100% stay here again and recommend it to friends!

Such a beautiful place -- feels like a hidden historical oasis with the atrium and gorgeous pool. Fantastic and very friendly service, basic but lovely continental breakfast in a gorgeous dining room. Only downside of our trip was that there was a loud wedding beneath us and due to the historical nature of the hotel, no double paned glass so sound traveled during their rager of a dance party, so bring ear plugs just in case ;). Would stay again in a heartbeat.

Wonderful, historic site. No a/c which was a slight problem and no Tv on site if one cares. Very European feel

The Berkeley City Club is an historic hotel designed by the famed architect Julia Morgan. Location is terrific and just a block from UC-Berkeley. The club is a Berkeley landmark and some of the public areas still have some of the charm that would've been present in 1930. However, the club/hotel is in need of significant renovations and/or restorations. The rooms are very small (to be expected in an older building) but are NOT well appointed. Cheap vinyl floors, broken furniture, and poor lighting were sources of disappointment. No a/c either.

A hotel without concierge, with out shower handle without tv and everything closes by 9.30 pm, untrained front desk. we are an elderly couple we had no help from no one for our luggage and just a FAKE smile. I wished I booked else where instead of this under staffed place.

Berkeley City Club is a jewel! It is charming and beautiful and, very conveniently located to downtown Berkeley and the university. Would definitely stay here again.

Great location and beautiful historical building! We will be back. The continental breakfast was lovely each day. Rooms are small but guest spaces abundant. Very close to the university and great area to explore.

A delight and privilege to experience an architectural gem that I could actually afford to stay in! A refreshingly kind, thoughtful, and engaging staff. A stunning, invitingly warm pool (the architectural gem swim!). And a delicious delightfully-more-than-the-typical-sparse-continental breakfast included! Grateful to have found and experienced this special place created by an amazing architect, Julia Morgan, and run by a fabulous caring crew. May this jewel be conserved and appreciated for decades, even centuries, to come!

The hotel is architecturally stunning and oozing charm. However, it is outdated in every way imaginable. The beds are uncomfortable, the room was noisy and so hot, you can’t control the temperature in your room. There are no tv’s. The bathroom was dingy and the whole room smelled like a goodwill, you know the smell, old musk. The neighborhood was nightmare. It was loud and they are sandwiched between studen services and a free clinic. Homeless people roam around like zombies and doesn’t feel safe. I was woken up at midnight by endless screaming. It was frightening.

You get to stay in a landmark private club, an architectural landmark designed by Julia Morgan, who did Hearst Castle. Great service, a swimming pool fit for a Hearst. Some rooms on the upper floors, like mine, 404, have incredible views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco, even from the toilet! Parking, for a fee, available next door, right by the UC campus. Five stars.

First, I want to say that we absolutely ADORE this hotel. We love, love, love the architectural details, history and location. It's just lovely! We stayed here a couple years ago during Covid and it was a perfect stay. We were very disappointed in the front dest staff this time, unfortunately. We arrived too early to check in (1:30pm - check in is at 3). Ok, no problem, we could wait in the lobby. At 3, 3:30, 4, 4:30, room still not ready due to a full house (supposedly) - no apology, no other room available. We were finally given Rm 308 and saw many clean, empty rooms with open doors on the 3rd floor! Asked for a 1/2 hour late check-out and they didn't want to give (until I complained about the check-in issue). They Ok'd it, saying they'd have to delay the check-in of the incoming guest due to being "fully booked." Wait, isn't check-in at 3? Does it take 2 1/2 hours to clean a room? I worked in hotel management for years, so not buying it. Looking online at their availability for that night, they had many rooms available to book, so I don't understand the deception and inflexible rudeness we received. I suggest better training in customer service for your front office staff.
