Gorgeous Victorian interior. Loved all the furnishings and ornaments. Loved the afternoon cookies. Breakfast was good
The bed mattress needs to be firmer.

Amazing historical house that is a museum of it's own. Sherry and cookies in the evening were such a nice welcome surprise. The staff was very friendly and helpful. While my room was tiny, it was decently clean and had a large storage space.
The bed wasn't very comfortable for me. The windows were expectedly small and barely opened so the air in the room had a damp odor.

Breakfast is simple and filling. A nice start to the day.

The hotel has a retro / old-timey Victorian charm, it might not be to everyone's taste, but we simply loved it! It is located close to Japantown & Pacific Heights neighborhoods, which was definitely a plus. Very convenient to go sightseeing and check the Painted Ladies, but also to wander in cool local neighborhoods. Public transportation (bus) is close, so very convenient to go all over the city.
The room was very comfortable and quiet. The staff was super helpful: my husband could not lift any suitcase due to a recent surgery, they carried everything in our room.
The sherry time from 4 to 6 was definitely a plus: it's great to know you can hang out and have a nice drink in the common area in between walks in the city.
Equipment a little old (especially the heating device) but on the whole everything worked fine.
The breakfast could be improved.

A lovely place to stay. Wonderfull furniture and fire places to and a very comfy lounge to relax and read
There was even Sherry and biscuits at 4 pm until 6.
very good breakfast too with great staff in the dinning room
The room on the top floor was small with a double bed (not queen) and one side was against the wall which made it hard to get out being older

We chose this hotel because of the Victorian theme and thought it would be quirky and something we haven’t experienced in all the other places we’ve stayed in the US. The woodwork and stain glass is beautiful. We only encountered reception staff who were all very friendly.
With a Victorian property obviously comes some issues you don’t find in modern hotels - noise from doors opening/closing, plumbing rattling but it certainly wouldn’t put us off staying again.

We picked this hotel for the pictures and were not disappointed: The decor is lovely, like a step back in time - and the christmas decorations made it even more inviting. The room was beautiful, not really big but certainly adequate. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Convenient central location; you can walk to all major sights (Golden Gate Bridge, Fishermans Warf, Chinatown) in 30-45 minutes.
The Wifi signal is weak and unstable.

The nightly sherry and cookies! Gorgeous old Victorian building.
The breakfast options could have been better.

Beautiful old Victorian in a good location.
It was freezing in the area where you ate breakfast - Bring a down jacket. You would not want to sit in the beautiful lobby either as it was cold. The room heater was in a place where it blasted your face in bed, which was not comfortable. Also the bathroom had a cabinet falling apart, and some stains on the grout in the shower.

The lobby was completely decked out for Christmas, which made it especially fun. There are several fireplaces (gas), so it was really cozy to sit and read and relax. The rooms are maintained well with historical furnishings and beautiful woodwork throughout.
Coffee bar coffee could be a tad stronger.

All was amazing! The hotel has lovely atmosphere, staff was very kind, room was clean and comfortable, location was great and cookies with sherry were lovely! The neighborhood was very safe, also quite easy to find parking on the street.
The wifi connection in our room wasnt the best, but it was somehow sometimes working.

Gorgeous historical Victorian mansion! The detail and so much of the original structure is just amazing and refreshing to see something that is not overly renovated. Great breakfast and the staff was kind and helpful.
Not much to not like, except maybe our Garden Room bed was way too soft.

"Faded elegance" as expected. Comfortable bed, good hot shower and pressure. Thick towels. Great location - convenient to symphony/opera, Japantown, easy transit to other locations.
The so-called Deluxe Continental Breakfast wasn't: some hard-boiled eggs, sausages, and a waffle machine along with stale bagels, cereal, and halved Costco muffins. Selection of hand fruit. Yogurt would have been a nice addition.

Love the location,& the building was beautiful but the “sleep couch” was horrid, the refrigerator was not plugged in. There was no kitchen , just a small refrigerator & microwave. Bath door sticks, fire hazard lamps & inedible breakfast. Lack of air circulation was an issue— fans were not very functional. Blanket was threadbare w/ stuffing falling out. Could be upgraded.

Location is great, you have many good restaurants in Japan Town and you are also close to downtown and Painted Ladies. Hotel is decorated in beautiful Victorian/Edwardian style.
Stuff was great, big big thank you Michael and Rocco for making our stay in San Francisco so beautiful ! Highly recommended

Love the staff here, they are so nice and always willing to help. They have free breakfast with a decent selection of food and coffee/tea. Also love the fact that they have a free afternoon tea in the lobby from 4 to 6pm with free cookies and drinks. Great location, just a couple blocks from the center of Japantown and popular restaurants. Transportation is super convenient, I took the bus everywhere.
The room's decent sized, considering SF's a pretty expensive city. However, the room did feel stuffy, but considering how old and historical the hotel is, I didn't really mind. What I minded was that the detergent they used for the bedding is scented, and with the stuffiness of the room, the bedding smelled weirdly fishy. Other reviews didn't seem to mind this, so I guess this might be a me thing.
