Location
Lack of direction to room especially as one lift was out of service. The lift its self had no floor key.
Leaving the lift there was a lack of signage, found myself in the basement! Simply signs above doors would help.

Great location, the breakfast was excellent with a good variety. We had dinner 1 night which was also really good. Really nice reception and restaurant area.
Room was well equipped and clean but quite dated. Leaking taps, crack in the bath and hardly any plug sockets.

it was a nice hotel and comfy bed
the elevator was closed so we had a hard time finding our room with the detour

The twin room that I shared with my sister was a fantastic size. Plenty of room for us to move about & have our own space each, and there was a table with 2 chairs provided. Plenty of towels provided also. Lovely big windows meant the room was light and airy. My mum had a Queen size bed in her room and found it very comfortable.
The hotel itself is gorgeous, with fantastic & wide staircases and landings. The staff were really exceptional too, from Reception to Housekeeping to the Restaurant team. Louise in the Restaurant was kind enough to share her considerable local knowledge when I needed some help with identifying some of the streets of Aberdeen - invaluable help.
A great spread at breakfast, with a wonderful porridge menu! Pizza from the Restaurant one evening was also very good.
Our room faced onto Guild Street - Room 316. Unfortunately the floor and our beds shook every time that a vehicle went past on the street below. Sleep was very interrupted across our 4 night stay. The staff understood the problem (clearly they are well aware of the issue) - we were advised that we would need to be available around 11.00 when check-outs had been completed and room allocations were being done for new guests, to see if we could swap rooms. We had a very busy itinerary for our trip, with places to be and family to visit, and we didn't particularly want to give up our plans or spend the middle of the day hanging around in the hotel, so we had to give up on the idea of swapping rooms.
There was nowhere to hang our bathroom towels - no hooks or rails anywhere. That seemed odd - we hung wet towels off the back of chairs instead.
A shame that so many people (guests and non-guests) show little respect for this beautiful building, eg. dropping their cigarette ends outside the front foor, despite the ashtray just outside the entrance, and that rubbish is dropped just outside. Perhaps, if the length of the building was regularly swept and kept looking smart, then people might treat it wiith the respect it deserves?
