The Wheatsheaf Inn

Lovely location. Parking available. Nice atmosphere. Very comfortable bed.

Our room felt a little tired and had quite a bad musty smell.

The whole inn had a very cosy feeling. Room was quaint. Breakfast was lovely. High quality ingredients used.

The receptionist was a little cold at check in and departure. She took our breakfast order but had to be called back to ask for sauces and drinks etc. We were not told we could use the buffet table, just had to figure it out. We were also woken up at 5:45 by a HGV lorry with its engine idling for a good 20 minutes. Presumably it was delivering to the restaurant but it was so loud. The windows are old and did nothing to dim the sound. I can imagine it was highly annoying for the other guests facing the road, and the residents too. The shower was also in the room. Maybe avoid if you’re not closely acquainted with the person you’re sharing with!

This place is a little Gem. Great location in a small quaint village. The rooms are lovely and comfortable. Food is excellent and reasonably priced. Staff are very friendly. Will definitely return.

The room was nice - smaller than described though and not worth the price we paid. We arrived at 3pm Sunday 20th - room not ready - so we popped out and looked around. We did phone the day before Saturday 19th at 3.30pm and left an answerphone message to say we wanted to book Sunday lunch - unfortuneately - no-one phoned us back as promised - so we didn't get Sunday lunch. Put us on a bad footing. Comfortable bed. Some road noise. It was our wedding anniversary!

The breakfast was terrible. I staff member who looked like she was about to burst into tears. We waited ages to get served - most of it was self-serve. We asked for tea - got a teapot - but had to ask again for milk 10 minutes later. We ordered full English and got that - but cold beans - cold mushrooms - cold poached egg - served on cold plates - we complained along with others and got the breakfast knocked off. 14 people were down for breakfast at that time. plenty of complaints. Americans giving food back. Male staff member I spoke to said it's like it every day! Carpark full - so car was parked on the road with anti-theft device.
