YAYS Amsterdam Prince Island by Numa

We had a great amount of supplies and access to more that we could navigate on our own terms. It was a nice touch that they offered coffee pods and teabags. This place definitely had more amenities than a hotel. The location was prime and during the night it was quite quiet in the bedrooms (not the living room). It was really helpful that there was an in-unit mobile AC for the living room and three large high-powered portable fans for the bedrooms.

There was a lot of noise outside of the living room so if someone was sleeping there, it would’ve been unrealistic. The listing was unclear: it said AC but didn’t specify that it was a mobile unit that only provided air conditioning in the living room and not the bedrooms. We could smell weed smoke in the apartment pretty much all day; perhaps there should be a rule that people need to step away from the whole building to smoke since everybody has their windows open due to lack of air-conditioning. It’s also worth noting that the windows are quite heavy and a little hard to navigate, so for seniors this is unrealistic. There were a few other minor problems (the bathroom drain was clogged and the bathroom fan didn’t work, and providing lighter bedding would have been helpful rather than only a heavy duvet for hotter nights), but overall, we rate the place 7.5/10. Not quite an Airbnb… But definitely better than a hotel.

The location was brilliant. It was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed.

The WiFi stopped working half way through our stay. We alerted the management and received an email to say the situation was being worked on. The WiFi did not return for the next 2 days and we were never updated on the situation.

The apartment is located in a convenient area close to shops and restaurants. It is spacious and the first floor outlook enjoys great views out across the canal from the kitchen sitting area. The beds were comfortable and we slept well.

The tapered return staircase was relatively tight and care was needed to walk up and down this (especially with suitcases).

The size and location

The drainage was faulty so we could not have a shower for the first two days. The beds in the second bedroom were uncomfortable for a tall teenager
