Royal Hotel

A beautiful hotel run by incredibly friendly and considerate staff. Very good restaurant.

Very central, walking distance from ferry terminal, own car park if needed, comfortable single room. Restaurant with castle view across harbour, perfect for plentiful breakfast, lunch or dinner (especially on Sunday when most places are closed). A bar is available if you want an evening dram.

Big step to get out bath/shower with no grab rail to avoid slipping. No lift for luggage to rooms although staff willing to help if required.

Boatyard restaurant is very good, Room price does not include breakfast - and it is a high priced room

It's in a great location, right in the heart of Stornoway. Having said that, Stornoway is really small, so its easy to get anywhere from anywhere else. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant is amazing! There is a small car park at the back of the hotel, but places are limited. The good bit about it, though, is that there is an entrance from the back car park which takes you in and out of the hotel at an upper level and, also, our room was right next door to it, so it was easy to get in and out.

Sorry to say this guys, but the bed in our room was terrible! It was a small double and the mattress seemed so sag in the middle, so we kept sinking into each other. It was really uncomfortable as well. Probably the worst nights sleeps (3 we had) I have had in any hotel for a long time. In all honesty, I couldn't wait to leave and move on to our next hotel in our next holiday location, which I knew had a bigger and much more comfortable bed, because it was a Premier Inn. I also got the feeling we had been allocated the room that we were because we had booked through here, and if I had called the hotel directly it may have resulted in a better room. Please don't let this put you off the hotel, though, because I'm sure the other rooms might have had better beds. The location, food, staff and general look of the place (outside of our room) are really good.
