The Winchester Hotel and Spa

Walking distance to the city centre. Very comfortable and good sized room and bed. The food - dinner and breakfast - was excellent. The bar was comfortable and convenient for our meet ups. I enjoyed the spa facilities.

It was difficult to speak to someone on the phone when there was a hiccup before our friends arrived. Paying for parking!

A great room with fridge, kettle, ensuite, tv and double bed. The room has air con and is comfortable and the location is quite convenient - about 10 or 15 minutes walk to the High Street.

I thought the additional charges for early check in, late check out, breakfast and parking were unnecessary for such an expensive hotel and really brought the tone down. There is a council carpark immediately in front of the hotel which is cheaper than the hotel carpark- but the receptionist was good enough to point this out.

We liked the general decor of the hotel, the staff were pleasant, a nice restaurant, even though we had to move our booking and the spa facilities were good.

We stayed at The Winchester Hotel & Spa for two nights (25th Sept) for our 22nd Wedding Anniversary. Overall, we liked the hotel & enjoyed the spa facilities, but unfortunately several issues left us feeling disappointed & took the shine off what should have been a special weekend. Firstly, the hotel advertises onsite parking on Booking.com, which is technically correct, but both the hotel car park & the adjacent NCP car park are chargeable. Having paid over £414 for a two-night stay, I feel that complimentary parking should be included at a 4-star hotel! Upon arriving at our room, we found a "Toast to You" card waiting for us. At first, we thought this was a lovely touch, but it was actually addressed to a completely different couple celebrating their 1st Anniversary rather than our 22nd Anniversary. A small mistake but it immediately made the stay feel less personal. Prior to our arrival, I had requested flowers in the room for my wife. I believed this had been accommodated following email correspondence, it later became apparent that the email was simply asking for my arrival time & no communication had been made regarding the flowers. As a result, the surprise never happened. Another issue was the temperature throughout the hotel. The corridors & our room were uncomfortably warm. Although the room had air conditioning, it did not appear to be functioning properly. We could adjust the target temperature but were unable to control the fan speed, making it difficult to cool the room. We reported this to reception on checking out. We had also booked a meal at Alfred's Restaurant on the Friday evening to celebrate our anniversary. However, we were informed that due to an event at a sister hotel, the kitchen staff were occupied & only bar food was available. Both bathroom taps also developed a fault. I booked this for our 22nd Anniversary & wanted a special stay.
