Black Cap Camden

It was so quirky and full of drag history art work which was so fun to look at. It was ideally located right in the centre of Camden; only a 2 minute walk to the tube station and a 5 minute walk to the markets. We had free entrance into the drag show that evening as guests of the hotel. The staff were warm and welcoming, they showed us to our room and even walked us round the fire evacuation route just in case. The rooms were very clean and beautifully decorated, with complimentary tea & coffee.

As it turned out, our accommodation in Camden is home to one of the most famous drag venues in the world, which is, of course, absolutely fabulous in itself! The crowd and the whole neighbourhood are very international and diverse, which we really enjoyed.

The problem is that this isn’t really a hotel. It’s a queer nightclub with rooms upstairs. There’s no breakfast, no reception before the place opens, and the staff aren’t professional hotel staff. The rooms also don’t have air conditioning, which was pretty unbearable in the (admittedly unexpected) London heat, especially since the windows are tiny and some of them can’t be opened at all. Additionally, none of this was made clear on Booking.com. The listing gave the impression that the place was a fully fledged hotel in the middle of Camden, which simply wasn’t the case.
