Situated in Damascus, this charming house for $165 per night is a great option for your next trip. Within minutes walking distance of Downtown Damascus this quaint little A-Frame home surrounded by wooded acreage will make you feel cozy and right at home! This cute little home has a great open floor plan with vaulted ceilings, hardwood flooring and three private decks that overlook the property. This cheerful house boost creativity and adventure! Full access to the home's three bedrooms, two full baths, fully equipped kitchen and full sized washer and dryer. Private parking and fenced in yard. Pet friendly with some restrictions. The chicken wire-style fence surrounds the maintained yard with plenty of room for kids to run and use their imaginations. Outside the fenced area, is a balance of thick-wooded privacy surrounding the property on three sides. Neighbors are almost invisible from the back porches in the spring and through mid-fall. The master bedroom is on the main level and has a private deck with a full bath and laundry conveniently located across the hall. The upper level features a loft bedroom with 2 twin beds and a trundle-twin bed, sitting area and has its own deck. The lower level has the third bedroom with a queen bed, a futon sofa-bed, full bath, and gas fireplace. Also located on the lower level is a workshop area that has plenty of room to store your bikes, or other outdoor equipment. Even basic tools are on site for unforeseen quick fixes. Luxury linens, extra pillows, and plush towels and blankets are also provided. High-quality and highly-rated mattresses are on all beds. Central air and heat, single carport near the house, wireless internet throughout the house, puzzles, games, books for all ages and other pastimes to help promote family time without screens. Some cell phone carriers have troubles with service at the house and some areas in town. Verizon seems to work the best. Strict no smoking policy in the house. A nature lover and outdoor enthusiasts dream spot since it’s minutes from the four tails that intersect with Damascus: The Appalachian, The Virginia Creeper, The Iron Mountain and the HWY 76 Bicycle Route. Tasty, fun restaurants and a local craft- brewery in Damascus with additional fabulous restaurant options in Abingdon, just 20 minutes away. Bike shops in town have bikes for the whole family to rent and friendly shuttle services.

The cottage was delightful! We traveled with our border collie and she loved the yard. This is definitely a dog friendly rental. We loved the location and the quiet neighborhood. We will stay here again.

There were four of us total and a small dog. There was plenty of room for all of us. Great location and well kept. A little nervous about the front walkway as it is loose. Tried to turn on the gas fireplace downstairs downstairs but it never came on. Maybe not the season but wanted the ambience. We wanted to sit outside and possibly grill out but those areas needed attention and we did not feel like cleaning them to use. Plenty of space for everyone and the super cute house with a really great yard.

My dogs and I really enjoyed our stay. We especially loved the huge yard and hanging out on the balcony off the main bedroom. It felt like we were in a tree house. We did not use the upper or lower levels but found the main level very comfortable and fully equipped with everything we needed. I also enjoyed the whimsical art and decor and the proximity to the Creeper trail and to downtown Damascus. While it is within walking or biking distance, the road is fairly steep so I didn’t attempt it. I would definitely stay here again.

We had a very relaxing weekend stay in this cottage. The inside was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped. My only observation of concern were the steps leading to the downstairs area. We were perfectly fine, but I would not take small children there, nor did we allow our small dog on the stairs. But doggie gates were provided, so we kept the area blocked off. The downstairs was very nice! The loft area was great, though we had no need to use it. I would recommend a stay at Whimsy in the Wood. It was in the wood on a very quiet street.

Lovely, cozy, charming cottage in Damascus! Owners take obvious delight in making the cottage very welcoming and comfortable. Many nice touches. Overall just very comfortable and convenient if you want to use Damascus as your basecamp for outdoor adventures in Va Highlands. We would stay here again in heartbeat!

A nice little property with room for 4 adults and 2 kids. Interesting and quirky decor in a great location near local recreational activities. Quiet neighborhood. DW, Washer Dryer all good. The kitchen is a bit dark. Needs more light (perhaps in the overhead fan) to see better to cook. But a nice property and a nice stay.

We stayed here to go on the Creeper Trail and do some hikes. It was the perfect location. We loved having a fenced-in yard. The kids loved the hammocks. And the place is not huge but it is bigger than the pictures make it look! This is quiet but close to the grocery store and town, the Creeper Trail itself, and lots of trails. Parking is easy (we had one car but there is room for more). We loved it and would stay again!

Nice stay, very comfortable and perfect for our two doodles to run and play in the fenced-in yard. Perfect for grandparents and 3 grandkids. Sitting by the firepit made for a relaxing evening after days filled with mountain fun.

A few things: This space is a 0 entry building, meaning that if you have a family member that is in a wheelchair or can't step up - this is great! We stayed here because our daughter was visiting Emory and Henry for a college prep camp. This location is private and quiet. Although it's a mile or so from the main Damascus town, it's not a big deal. We rented bikes from the place across from Food City and rode into town in 5 minutes. A great addition to this rental would be bikes! Everything we needed was available (toiletries, dishes, cookware, etc). The private balconies were nice. The yard is fully fenced and the fire pit is so nice. Thank you!

We had a delightful stay at Whimsy on the Woods! There are a few quirks (large gaps on the stair railings, very steep basement stairs) that would have been a little nerve-racking with very small children. Our youngest is 5, and there were no issues. Great yard for a dog. We biked both directions of the Creeper Trail, and we could walk directly from the trail to the cabin. We would happily stay here again!

We only stayed for 2 nights, so it was wonderful that it had everything we needed for a short stay (towels, dish soap, toilet paper, shampoo, etc). It made doing a brief getaway that much more appealing. We enjoyed the plethora of decks once the weather warmed up! One suggestion - have some light-weight chairs to move out to the firepit. We carried down (and back up!) the decks chairs and got quite a work out. Walkable/bikeable to downtown Damascus if you don't mind the one big hill to get back home.

I highly recommend the comfortable, wonderful location to anyone wanting to stay in the Damascus area. This was the third time we have visited this property. First time in the spring where we had spring, summer, fall and winter all in one week. My husband biked to the top and down one day. Our daughter came up from NC for the weekend and we visited Grayson Highlands along with more biking. Looking forward to another adventure in Damascus soon!

Great private retreat right on the Creeper Trail! If biking, ride all day and enjoy a pint at the Damascus Brewery a couple blocks away. If day hiking the AT enjoy a pint afterwards at the Damascus Brewery just a couple blocks away. Win! Win!
