Potter's Cottage in Lovely Margaree Valley
About this cottage rental
Located in Nova Scotia, this attractive cottage for $140 per night is a great option for your next break. This country cottage is located in the heart of Cape Breton's Margaree Valley, which is well-known for its lush beauty, its proximity to the Cabot Trail and the top-notch salmon fishing in the Margaree River. Located beside the Nile brook, this is the childhood home of renowned potter Bell Fraser, who for years had an established gallery in a barn on this property, and who now lives nearby on the coast in Chimney Corner. The grounds are lovely and the trees put on a colourful show in fall. This home was built in the 1950’s, but has seen many improvements over the years; there's a renovated bathroom, hardwood floors, a fully equipped kitchen (with tile backsplashes executed by the potter). There are also a deck for BBQ’s, a living room, dining room, and a screened veranda, which is perfect on a summer night. There’s salmon and trout fishing, and excellent craft galleries nearby. We offer satellite TV, premium Wi-Fi and more, so you can unwind after a day on the Trail, the beach or any other day trips. There is a Master bedroom on the main floor with a Queen bed and direct access to the adjoining bathroom. There are two other bedrooms upstairs; one with a Queen bed and AC, and a second with a double and single bed. There is also a good spin-washer and dryer. There is no shortage of things to do in the area. The world-famous Cabot Trail is only 2 minutes away and offers some of the best scenery in Canada. Cape Breton Highlands National Park, with trails, lookoffs and waterfalls, is only 50 minutes away. In addition to Chimney Corner beach (30 minutes away), there are other great beaches to check out nearby: Whale Cove (25 minutes away) at which you can explore a fabulous bluff by the sea, with great views north and south, Margaree Harbour (20 minutes away), with its beach and two lighthouses, the Broad Cove area, which offers a spectacular scenic drive, and a great beach. Southwest of us are the gorgeous rolling hills of Mabou, the town of Inverness, which offer music, pubs and food; the acclaimed new Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs golf courses by the sea (which are only 20 minutes away), and offer a unique golfing experience in Inverness. There are also renowned crafters in the area; interesting quilting, rug hooking, and folk-art sculpture can all be found locally.

Older cottage but had the needs and relaxation we were looking for .Loved the porch ,we had all our meals and played games there. The cottage had all the extra kitchen tools we needed , extra bonus washer and dryer.Need larger shower curtain for bathroom hard not to get water on floor. And upstairs are not for anyone with issues very steep and sharp corner on stairs, overall great place we would stay again.

Great place to stay. Easily accommodated our group of five.

It’s a very nice and very cute cottage. It is settled away from a quiet road, so it’s very quiet. The cottage is rustic but has all the amenities you need. The kitchen was very well stocked with spices, oil and other mains ingredients and cleaning supplies. Lots and lots of dishes and pot and pans. The screened veranda was very nice and we had supper there every night. The beds are comfortable, but the bedrooms upstairs tend to be very warm at night and with only one window AC (which was very noisy)in one of the upstairs bedroom it was not enough to cool the bedrooms and/or to sleep while it was on. Ceiling fan would have been great, although the owner provides many small portable fans.
Overall we had a great stay, and love the ambiance of the cottage. The owner communicated very well and the instructions given were clear and easy to follow.

The property met all our needs for a one week stay with family (2 adults + one child) from Germany. The house was comfortable and the location was a perfect spot for exploring many local beaches as well as the beautiful Margaree River Valley. Great local music at the nearby Normaway Inn and fabulous food at the Dancing Goat. Kinross Quilts up the valley is a true hidden gem that should not be missed!

Very clean, comfortable beds, everything you could possibly want in the kitchen. Well stocked. Washer and dryer bonus! Good location to do the Cabot Trail by day trips.
Quiet and serene.

The cottage was very peaceful and quiet, containing everything we needed. While not closely situated to the main attractions we were interested in, we thoroughly enjoyed our daily drives to the hiking trails and beaches. We would recommend this to others looking for a home base in which to explore the beautiful region of Cape Breton.

The property is beautiful and the house is well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The owners are helpful and great to communicate with. My only critique is the lack of outdoor seating. There is nowhere outside to hang out and enjoy the sun.

Lovely cottage.
We cooked our own meals everyday we stayed there. They have everything you need and the grocery store is only about a 15 minute drive if you need anything. It’s a bit of driving to get to the beaches, but there are 4 beautiful beaches within 20-30 min of the cottage. So for the price they charge it is well worth it.
And if you are a fly fisherman, well you can just walk right over to the river.
We would stay here again for sure.
Thanks so much for letting us stay at your cottage.

Great location along the Cabot Trail.
Nice home in a quiet setting. The bridge is out on the main road coming in and the detour is a very rough road. Breakfast at the Dancing Goat is a must. Would definitely stay again!

It was so quiet and comfy! The hosts were very kind and attentive when we needed them.
The tiles and art throughout were incedible!
Also very close to alot of excellent food.
We would go again in a heartbeat and highly recommend if you are looking for the country life in Cape Breton.
We didnt want to leave!

First, I would like to let the owners know that we would like to rent the house for the same period next year. That said, the most outstanding feature for us was the location. We could choose any number of pools to fish in minutes. We were only about ten minutes from the CO-OP . I did most of the cooking and I was stunned by the amount of cookware and utensils compared to other places I have stayed in the valley. We had a great time

The cottage is so cute and artistic with wonderful ambience. There is attractive art and craft throughout. All three queen beds are comfortable. There is a dishwasher, washer and dryer, and charcoal grill. The kitchen is very well supplied. There is an eat in kitchen and a dining room with a leather couch in addition to the living room with a leather couch and two chairs. This could be a year round house, not just a rental or vacation house. It is very quiet. We never saw the owners but they answered the phone when we called. The bathroom has great hot water and pressure. This was one of my best rentals ever. Highest recommendation.

Very quiet place in a remote area, yet close enough to the Cabot Trail. We thought Margaree Valley was a good central hub to go mostly anywhere on the east coast or the western coast. The house itself was spacious, the kitchen was well equipped for cooking. We had a very nice vacation!

The cottage was a great home base for exploring Cape Breton. The kids loved running around the beautiful property and star gazing at night. The owners provided the BEST recommendations. Definitely go to a concert at the Barn and Chimney Corner beach.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this charming, spacious home in the country. A beautiful property and well equipped home. We only wish there was a table and chairs outside so we hade a place to sit in the yard-but the house is very comfortable and the screened in porch was nice for breakfast. The owners were lovely and responsive!

This is the second year we've rented this cottage. It has a cozy feel and is in close proximity to a number of the fishing pools. Had a great fishing weekend in the Margaree! Will likely book it again.

We went to the Margaree to get out of the city and enjoy the fall in Nova Scotia. This trip ticked all the boxes, and the home was perfectly situated to enjoy the beauty of the area. Everything was ready for us and we enjoyed the artistry that was evident around the house. The only challenge I had was negotiating the stairs in the middle of the night to use the loo- and do so quietly to not disturb the folks sleeping on the other side of the door. Thank you for the use of your home!

Great Place in Margaree Valley
The cottage was as advertised and had all the accommodations of home. Very comfortable and warm for the two adults. The location was perfect and the lists of things to do provided by the owners will keep you busy during your stay. The owners even graciously checked in on us the first night to make sure everything was functional and to answer any concerns. She owns the pottery barn adjacent and even met one of us in the evening after fishing at the barn to view her works. Quite awesome. Would I stay here again? Absolutely!!

The perfect fishing getaway
This property is an anglers paradise. Centrally located in Margaree, it allows easy fishing to all parts of the river (and of course, the Dancing Goat!). The cottage has a cozy, rustic feel with many bedrooms/sleeping arrangements - perfect for a group or couples getaway. Will definitely be staying here again.

If you're looking to be off the grid for a few days then this is the place to do it. There is no cell coverage at the cottage, but there is Wi-Fi with an okay connection, so you're forced to go outdoors and explore the nature which is the point of visiting Cape Breton. This location is not the closest location to the Highlands as you need to drive at least 40 minutes to the nearest trail just above Cheticamp. But, it's a good home base if you're exploring the rest of Cape Breton. You are looking at a minimum 40 minute drive in any direction, so if you're after exploring the Highlands, you'd want to stay in Cheticamp or Ingonish as majority of the trails are in the North-West part of the Highlands.
If you're staying here, make sure to visit the Uisge Ban Falls that are nearby. (45 minute drive still but that's because of the road)
Overall, this rustic-looking cottage provides all the basic amenities and it provides a decent home-base to anyone looking to explore Cape Breton and its nature. We did feel it's a bit pricey for the type of accommodation the cottage provides.

Charming Margaree cottage
This cottage is in an ideal location, close to salmon pools on the Margaree River, the Dancing Goat cafe, and routes that take you to Margaree Harbour, Inverness and the Cape Breton Highlands. It is an older cottage but charming. Beds were comfortable, lots of hot water, kitchen has all that is needed. We had a great week.

Linens were clean as was the cottage.
A few items were missing from the kitchen, but we made do.
Overall I’d recommend this cottage.
