About this cottage rental

Skye Cottage is situated in the old part of Padstow, in a very quiet street, just ten minute walk from centre of town. Parking, which is pretty rare in this old part of Padstow, is on your doorstep. The house is 14 years old but has been built in the old Cornish tradition, with slates front and the back garden is a fantastic sun trap. Within short walking distance you will be on the harbour, where all the famous restaurants of Padstow are located. Shops and pubs are also just down the road. Padstow is a perfect base from which to explore the whole county of Cornwall, not far from any of the other attractions such as Eden Project, Port Isaac, St Ives and the beaches of Trevone, Harlyn, Constantine, Treyarnon, Newquay, Watergate, Mawgan Porth and the famous coastal path walk. PLEASE NOTE: Skye Cottage is only used as a holiday let so the post box is hardly ever open. Please avoid have any items sent to the property.

The property location is fantastic and only a short 5 minute stroll down the the main harbour. Being situated in the old part of Padstow, it has all the charm and beauty you could hope for. Having a driveway is a massive bonus as there is very limited parking otherwise and it would have been difficult with a young family. We loved our stay and would definitely like to go again.

What I loved about this property was its location, the helpfulness of the host, how modern it was inside but comfortable and the two spacious double bedrooms with en suites. I'd definitely stay here again.

Really enjoyed the hustle and bustle of Padstow, and the fantastic food and restaurants. This accommodation was perfect to retire to at the end of a busy day, so peaceful and relaxing. Would highly recommend this accommodation

Parking space was a rarity in this part of Padstow so extremely useful and property is in a great location. Surface clean ok but behind sinks etc in bathroom we’re not good at all. Owner allowed us to check in an hour early which was great but the set check-in and out times are the most extreme I’ve experienced - 9.30 and 4.30 - you’re basically paying for a night where you can’t do anything in the day - not even park the car. Cottage has everything you need - dishwasher, washing machine, full kitchen etc and both bedrooms have an ensuite. Nice area out the back to sit and have a vino/bbq.

Adriana was excellent with communication and the property is exactly what she describes. The area was mostly quiet except for Saturday evening when the neighbors seem to enjoy a later night. However it didn’t disturb our stay. The location is unbeatable and the house was perfect for our group.

A list of the deficiencies we have found during our stay: 1) On arrival – clay footprints across the terrace from kitchen door to steps. We had to mop these before we could use the terrace. 2) One of the rattan chairs was 3-legged – corner piece detached, and foot missing. Owner proposal to just remove it was not appreciated. 3) Oven clock was 1 hour ahead. In trying to correct that I ended up with it just flashing ‘auto’ and ovens unusable. Fortunately I was able to identify the oven on YouTube and how to reset it. 4) In the back bedroom NEITHER bedside lamps worked. There was no suitable replacement bulb in the cupboard over the oven. Luckily both lamps worked in the other bedroom and I was able to swap bulbs. Owner said she had asked the cleaner to replace them. 5) The dishwasher was full of crockery and cutlery. The mugs smelt musty. How long was it since the machine had been run? 6) When I came to run the dishwasher part of the instructions was rubbed off. It took a lot of trial and error to get it to work. Then, set to 50, it did not open the detergent dispenser and failed to wash properly. A second attempt, having worked out how to get ‘auto’ did work. Owner said she knew about this. 7) We arrived on a warm day and the thermostats downstairs were showing temperatures in excess of 21 degrees. We could not work out how to reduce the temperature, so just opened the windows. Owner didnt know either! 8) None of the towel rails ever worked, despite the controller showing them ‘on’. We’d given up reporting problems at this stage. 9) There was an enormous cobweb across the window above the stairs. 10) There was an invasion of ants, apparently from the crack between tiles and door frame in the kitchen. 11) Finally, dust on skirtings, sills etc. indicative of a ‘quick wipe’ rather than having been cleaned. VRBO classify Skye Cottage as a ‘premier host’. Looking at the reviews it had not had a negative since 2019. Complacency seems to have set in. 1,2 and 4 are blamed on the cleaner, but owner knew about 5. It is usual, in holiday cottages, to leave a drawer with the instructions for the various white goods. OK these may get lost over the years, but there was no information whatsoever, even when, as with the dishwasher, the problem was known.
