About this house rental

Welcome to Pickering Passage Beach House! Book while we have summer availability! This gorgeous vacation beach house on almost an acre is just an hour and a half from Seattle, and 2 hours 20 min from Portland, right on South Puget Sound's Pickering Passage in Washington. Experience waterfront living at its best. ABOUT PICKERING PASSAGE BEACH HOUSE ~~ Pickering Passage Beach House offers three bedrooms, and two bathrooms on two levels totaling 1800 square feet. House sleeps 8, but 7 adults max. The views of the water are to die for! Plus, on almost an acre, the outdoor space is waiting to be explored. Stay in touch if needed utilizing the high speed WiFi connection. The Roku Smart 48" TV has Netflix and a DVD player. You can also stream from your own Comcast/Xfinity account, for example. It is a great set up for adults and kids. Kids have their own bunk room (2 bunk beds), plus a queen bed in each of two private bedrooms for the adults. All rooms are upstairs and there is also a bathroom with shower on the upper level. House sleeps 8, but 7 adults max. Please no adults on upper bunks. A 7th adult would need to sleep on the sofa. On the main floor, step outside the French doors onto your huge patio with expansive views. You can enjoy the water view while you prepare meals in the fully equipped spacious kitchen. Sit at the breakfast bar and chat with the cook, then dine with a view all together at the large dining table, seating 8 comfortably. Behind the dining table is an extra long built-in bench as well. The living room is next to the dining area with floor to ceiling windows has plenty of seating, and a large 48 inch flat screen Smart Roku TV with Netflix subscription. The 20 foot vaulted ceilings make the place feel so large and airy. You'll love the modern, industrial feel of this custom designed house with the high beams, and concrete flooring. There are even ceiling fans to offer a breeze in summer (or just open the doors to outside!). An extra large laundry room and full bath with tub/shower are on the main floor as well. ON THE PROPERTY ~~ Build a fire in the fire pit right on the back patio and take in the view. Or settle in on chairs on the lower bulk head (just few steps down) to watch the kids on the beach. When the tide is in, reel in the fish right from the seawall. In the front of the house on the large grassy area, get a game of volleyball, badminton or croquet going. There is also a paved area with a basketball hoop and tetherball. After a swim, or playing on the beach, there is a convenient outdoor shower outside the front door. The kids will not complain of boredom at Picking Passage Beach House!! It should be noted that there are often state or county burn bans in summer time. In that case, you will not be able to have a fire in the fire pit. ABOUT THE WATER ~~ Pickering Passage Beach House is located on the west side of Pickering Passage (which is just south of Hood Canal). Look across the water and see gorgeous Harstine Island. Saunter down a few stairs to the beach, which is great fun to beach comb any time of year. Available are one (possibly two) single kayaks for our guests to use to explore on the water. Kayaking is great as the current is not strong, and waters are calm. While on the water, or the beach (or even from the house!) you'll see the wonders of nature. Showing off are deer, bald eagles, seals, salmon, and more. Go crabbing, fishing, or gather clams or oysters (shellfishing directly in front of property only please). There are also public oyster beds nearby on Harstine Island. The water is surprisingly warm in summer. You can swim, or just sit with feet in the water, face in the sun for a truly Northwest Puget Sound experience. Bring your boat and tie up to the mooring buoy. The boat launch is less than a mile away. Waterskiing and fishing are great! AREA THINGS TO DO ~~ Shelton and Allyn (each 15 min drives) and the surrounding areas offer plenty to do for everyone. Experience fishing, wildlife viewing, or visit the Olympic National Rainforest Park (most easily accessed in Port Angeles, a 2-hour drive). Pamper yourself with a spa treatment and dinner at Alderbrook Resort, or play a round of golf at their award winning course - Hood Canal views throughout the course! Alderbrook has live music on the weekends, and it's less than a 30 min drive in Union. Perhaps you'd like to catch a flick at Skyline drive-in movie theater (20 min drive), try your luck at the Little Creek Casino (a mile from the drive-in), or enjoy Kneeland Park in downtown Shelton (15 min drive) with its gigantic playground, grassy areas and beautiful picnic shelter. Harstine Island has a farmers market in summer months. And Jarrell Cove State Park and marina is just 5 miles away on Harstine Island (there is a bridge). There is a mile of hiking trails if you're looking for a nice walk with the family, and 3500 feet of shoreline. Jarrell Cove has several other satellite state parks that are available by boat only (with mooring buoys). Try freshwater lake fishing at nearby 220 acre Spencer Lake. This lake is perhaps the most popular trout water in Mason County. In addition to trout, Spencer Lake has excellent bass and perch fishing. Get a scrumptious treat at the Olympic Bakery and Deli, just 2 miles away. Nearby Allyn offers waterfront dining at Leonard K's Boathouse Restaurant and Bar, or try 2 Margaritas Mexican Restaurant. In downtown Shelton, check out Smoking Mo's authentic southern BBQ - great atmosphere and food - bring your appetite! Allyn and Shelton are each just a 15 min drive. We are certain you will have a relaxing vacation and will want to return soon to Pickering Passage Beach House! Pluses of this property: It is clean, well-cared for, smells good, and The Location! Waking up to that view of the water was incredible. The queen beds are comfortable, the kitchen is well-stocked, and the barbecue works well. It's bright and beautiful, and I think it would be a beautiful place to stay as the leaves are turning in the Fall or during a Winter storm. We enjoyed the kayaks - it's a gentle area of the Sound to paddle. We saw Orcas from the patio! A mama and three babies swam and played their way past us twice! It's quiet, with an exception... Minuses: Big hidden fees. My 3 day stay cost more than 50% over the rental cost. The bunk beds are very noisy, and the bedrooms are small, so the bunk room is a very tight squeeze. There is a live outdoor music venue next door (they stopped playing about 9:30). There are no window coverings for the big east-facing windows, and there's no A/C, so the sun heats the house up early in the day. It was hot and stuffy in the bedrooms (it was only in the low 80's outside) but the fans helped and there are enough for each bedroom. I personally wouldn't stay here during a hot stretch - I grew up in Western Washington visiting various parts of Puget Sound and lived in Seattle, and this is the least windy spot I've ever been to. The lack of wind is mostly a plus, but not when it comes to cooling down the house. With all of that said, I would definitely stay here again - it's a breath of fresh air!

We enjoyed our stay so much! Beautiful location on the water was just what we were looking for to relax and visit, play games, eat good food, and explore the area. Bunk beds are small for a 20 yo kid, but other than that, the house worked well for us. Easy to find, and check in was efficient (online). Not a lot of places to walk except for beach when tide was out - we did and enjoyed.
