About this house rental
Welcome to Pickering Passage Beach House! Book while we have summer availability! This gorgeous vacation beach house on almost an acre is just an hour and a half from Seattle, and 2 hours 20 min from Portland, right on South Puget Sound's Pickering Passage in Washington. Experience waterfront living at its best. ABOUT PICKERING PASSAGE BEACH HOUSE ~~ Pickering Passage Beach House offers three bedrooms, and two bathrooms on two levels totaling 1800 square feet. House sleeps 8, but 7 adults max. The views of the water are to die for! Plus, on almost an acre, the outdoor space is waiting to be explored. Stay in touch if needed utilizing the high speed WiFi connection. The Roku Smart 48" TV has Netflix and a DVD player. You can also stream from your own Comcast/Xfinity account, for example. It is a great set up for adults and kids. Kids have their own bunk room (2 bunk beds), plus a queen bed in each of two private bedrooms for the adults. All rooms are upstairs and there is also a bathroom with shower on the upper level. House sleeps 8, but 7 adults max. Please no adults on upper bunks. A 7th adult would need to sleep on the sofa. On the main floor, step outside the French doors onto your huge patio with expansive views. You can enjoy the water view while you prepare meals in the fully equipped spacious kitchen. Sit at the breakfast bar and chat with the cook, then dine with a view all together at the large dining table, seating 8 comfortably. Behind the dining table is an extra long built-in bench as well. The living room is next to the dining area with floor to ceiling windows has plenty of seating, and a large 48 inch flat screen Smart Roku TV with Netflix subscription. The 20 foot vaulted ceilings make the place feel so large and airy. You'll love the modern, industrial feel of this custom designed house with the high beams, and concrete flooring. There are even ceiling fans to offer a breeze in summer (or just open the doors to outside!). An extra large laundry room and full bath with tub/shower are on the main floor as well. ON THE PROPERTY ~~ Build a fire in the fire pit right on the back patio and take in the view. Or settle in on chairs on the lower bulk head (just few steps down) to watch the kids on the beach. When the tide is in, reel in the fish right from the seawall. In the front of the house on the large grassy area, get a game of volleyball, badminton or croquet going. There is also a paved area with a basketball hoop and tetherball. After a swim, or playing on the beach, there is a convenient outdoor shower outside the front door. The kids will not complain of boredom at Picking Passage Beach House!! It should be noted that there are often state or county burn bans in summer time. In that case, you will not be able to have a fire in the fire pit. ABOUT THE WATER ~~ Pickering Passage Beach House is located on the west side of Pickering Passage (which is just south of Hood Canal). Look across the water and see gorgeous Harstine Island. Saunter down a few stairs to the beach, which is great fun to beach comb any time of year. Available are one (possibly two) single kayaks for our guests to use to explore on the water. Kayaking is great as the current is not strong, and waters are calm. While on the water, or the beach (or even from the house!) you'll see the wonders of nature. Showing off are deer, bald eagles, seals, salmon, and more. Go crabbing, fishing, or gather clams or oysters (shellfishing directly in front of property only please). There are also public oyster beds nearby on Harstine Island. The water is surprisingly warm in summer. You can swim, or just sit with feet in the water, face in the sun for a truly Northwest Puget Sound experience. Bring your boat and tie up to the mooring buoy. The boat launch is less than a mile away. Waterskiing and fishing are great! AREA THINGS TO DO ~~ Shelton and Allyn (each 15 min drives) and the surrounding areas offer plenty to do for everyone. Experience fishing, wildlife viewing, or visit the Olympic National Rainforest Park (most easily accessed in Port Angeles, a 2-hour drive). Pamper yourself with a spa treatment and dinner at Alderbrook Resort, or play a round of golf at their award winning course - Hood Canal views throughout the course! Alderbrook has live music on the weekends, and it's less than a 30 min drive in Union. Perhaps you'd like to catch a flick at Skyline drive-in movie theater (20 min drive), try your luck at the Little Creek Casino (a mile from the drive-in), or enjoy Kneeland Park in downtown Shelton (15 min drive) with its gigantic playground, grassy areas and beautiful picnic shelter. Harstine Island has a farmers market in summer months. And Jarrell Cove State Park and marina is just 5 miles away on Harstine Island (there is a bridge). There is a mile of hiking trails if you're looking for a nice walk with the family, and 3500 feet of shoreline. Jarrell Cove has several other satellite state parks that are available by boat only (with mooring buoys). Try freshwater lake fishing at nearby 220 acre Spencer Lake. This lake is perhaps the most popular trout water in Mason County. In addition to trout, Spencer Lake has excellent bass and perch fishing. Get a scrumptious treat at the Olympic Bakery and Deli, just 2 miles away. Nearby Allyn offers waterfront dining at Leonard K's Boathouse Restaurant and Bar, or try 2 Margaritas Mexican Restaurant. In downtown Shelton, check out Smoking Mo's authentic southern BBQ - great atmosphere and food - bring your appetite! Allyn and Shelton are each just a 15 min drive. We are certain you will have a relaxing vacation and will want to return soon to Pickering Passage Beach House! Enjoyed the place would come again

Pluses of this property: It is clean, well-cared for, smells good, and The Location! Waking up to that view of the water was incredible. The queen beds are comfortable, the kitchen is well-stocked, and the barbecue works well. It's bright and beautiful, and I think it would be a beautiful place to stay as the leaves are turning in the Fall or during a Winter storm. We enjoyed the kayaks - it's a gentle area of the Sound to paddle. We saw Orcas from the patio! A mama and three babies swam and played their way past us twice! It's quiet, with an exception... Minuses: Big hidden fees. My 3 day stay cost more than 50% over the rental cost. The bunk beds are very noisy, and the bedrooms are small, so the bunk room is a very tight squeeze. There is a live outdoor music venue next door (they stopped playing about 9:30). There are no window coverings for the big east-facing windows, and there's no A/C, so the sun heats the house up early in the day. It was hot and stuffy in the bedrooms (it was only in the low 80's outside) but the fans helped and there are enough for each bedroom. I personally wouldn't stay here during a hot stretch - I grew up in Western Washington visiting various parts of Puget Sound and lived in Seattle, and this is the least windy spot I've ever been to. The lack of wind is mostly a plus, but not when it comes to cooling down the house. With all of that said, I would definitely stay here again - it's a breath of fresh air!

We enjoyed our stay so much! Beautiful location on the water was just what we were looking for to relax and visit, play games, eat good food, and explore the area. Bunk beds are small for a 20 yo kid, but other than that, the house worked well for us. Easy to find, and check in was efficient (online). Not a lot of places to walk except for beach when tide was out - we did and enjoyed.

The house was very clean and a great setup for families. We played lawn games and enjoyed water sports during our stay. The firepit was great for hot dogs and smores and keeping warm in cozy chairs. The view was fantastic and you can tell the owners really care about people enjoying their time there. We would definitely come back again. Thanks for the fun memories!

Property was as described in the ad. We were very comfortable with 6 adults in the house for 3 nights. Access to the water was easy and the kayaks and paddleboard got plenty of use by us. Not a ton of boat traffic so even beginners felt comfortable out on the water. When the other side of the family visits us in Seattle, we'll definitely consider staying here again.

We spent 3 nights here August. Grandparents, kids and grandkids spent time at the house. The house has a great space for family time. With grandkids, the house was perfect for us. The kitchen is well stocked. We did bring a bag of ice. Iam glad we did. The WIFI is excellent. Cell service from Allyn until the wifi was on at the house was one to zero bars. Lots to watch on TV. The grandkids liked that. It was August so, lots of bees. We did not use the kayaks, taking them up and down the stairs was to much work for us :) We enjoyed our time here.

Pickering Passage exceeded our expectations and was the perfect spot for our week away. Our group was two families, each with two kids ages 11 and 8. The house was so spacious for our large and busy group, the queen beds were comfortable and the middle bunk room was excellent for the kids. This was a super hot week and we were grateful to have the water right outside, spent lots of time splashing around and kayaking. We also took a great hike in the Olympics, grabbed ice cream in Hoodsport and oysters and clams from Taylor Shellfish, and got delicious morning pastries from the Olympic Bakery twice! The view from the house was absolutely stunning and we enjoyed dinners outside plus s’mores. A truly magical spot. Thank you!

The house was just like the photos!! We were a group of two families with 4 children and a new born baby. The kids loved that they were able to all stay in the one room with the double bunk beds and we were lucky enough that there wasn't a fireban so we got to enjoy the outdoor firepit. It was also great that there were kayaks and a paddle board (along with life jackets) for us to get on the water. Really enjoyed our stay and would definately come back.

Quiet cottage on calm waterway
Our family gathered together for a week to enjoy a peaceful retreat! We enjoyed the access of water with kayaks available and spent many hours lounging out front watching Seahawks fly by and seal roll through the water. We loved the option to play in the backyard. The back bedrooms stayed fairly cool in back with windows open. We loved the open space to gather for meals and card games inside and outdoors!

The house location is perfect for a wonderful view, and the neighborhood is quiet. The appliances, pots and pans as well as all the other equipment are very nice. Owner told me the water is surprisingly warm but it was not. We did find a park about 30 minutes away where the water was warmer and swimming was possible. The beds are really hard; if you like that then you are set! To me it was like sleeping on the floor, thus the 4 stars. My daughter and her husband found they couldn't use the queen-sized bed because of all squeaking with every move and ended up sleeping in the bunkbeds with the kids. It was hard to find some of the things we needed. Extra linen is in one of the bedrooms not the laundry room as would be expected. And there are very few games to play that have all the needed parts, so bring your own!
We enjoyed our stay and think others will too!

Everything we needed and more!!
My family and I spent 3 days at the house. We had an amazing time!! The house was fully equipped with everything we needed from cooking tools to shampoo. Having the outdoor tools for games and water adventures, made each day a blast!! We especially loved our evenings around the fire pit!! S’mores never tasted so good since we had that amazing view to look at! Thanks you for allowing us to enjoy such a great time with family.

This house has a great view of the outdoors. It's in a quiet neighborhood and is fairly secluded. (Could use a bigger sign to indicate the driveway into the property though.) The house was very clean & we had everything we needed. Even though it was cool when we were there, we still could experience the outdoors and enjoy the wildlife because of the large windows in the living room. Would definitely stay there again if we were in the area.

Great spot for a relaxing getaway with a water view! Debra was an excellent host and communication was a breeze. Everything was exactly as pictured. House was spotless, beds were comfy (only used the two queens) and kitchen had all we needed. The indoor fireplace took us a few mins to figure out, but we got it running (wall switch + on/off switch under door at base of unit) and it was wonderful when the evenings got chilly. Our fave parts were beach-combing and reclining in the Adirondack chairs, enjoying the serene view of Pickering Passage during the day, and then stargazing after dark, while enjoying beers with friends around the fire pit (be sure to bring your own firewood). We made a grocery/firewood run to the Safeway in Shelton - only about 20 mins away and a lovely drive. We arrived after dark, so we missed the turnoff for the driveway, but it was easy to turn around and we found it a few mins later. The location instructions say to look for a stick marker with the house number on it, but heads up - the sign is very small and easy to miss in the dark. Just drive very slowly and you'll find it - we did!

This is a lovely property. The pictures do it justice. Love the Adirondack chairs looking out over the water and having a fire pit. Kitchen was adequately stocked and the views couldn’t be beat. Cement floors were a bit of a surprise, though they are finished nicely. Another comfy air chair would be great. Beds were comfy. Would have liked more towels. Overall a great stay. Thanks!
