We loved staying at the cabin. It is super clean and stocked with everything you need to enjoy a great vacation….pots and pans, towels, beach towels and chairs, condiments, coffee and keurig, sunscreen, bug spray, etc. The views from the cabin are breathtaking. We enjoyed watching seals right from the deck. It is also close to restaurants and a small grocery store.
We found it to be a great location for what we wanted to do on Cape Breton….Cabot trail, skyline trail, gypsum mine trail, highland village.
Ann was so helpful and responsive. She is a fabulous host.
Just a couple pieces of info that may be helpful because it was info I was interested in. There is WiFi and internet. The internet is very slow so prob not suitable for working. The indoor shower is small, esp since my husband and I are tall. There is a roomy outdoor shower though. The beach access for the locals is right in front of the cabin so you won’t get complete privacy in that sense. The locals are very friendly and we did enjoy talking with people from the area. Many of them have dogs. We brought our dog and he loved people watching.
Be sure to take a drive/walk up the road, past the cabin for some amazing views!!! We enjoyed our stay and would absolutely stay at the cabin again.

We had a great stay at Ann’s cabin! The location, right beside the beach, is amazing. The water was warm enough to swim and play in the waves. The sunsets were terrific. The cabin is small but very comfortable for a family of 4 and is very well equipped (kitchen supplies, beach chairs, games, etc). Ann was very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this property.

Epic September Sunsets
The views of the sun setting into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence was amazing.

We couldn't have picked a better spot for a much-needed early September week's getaway. The cottage is basic in the way we like a cottage to be - equipped with everything we might need but able to take sandy feet and a dog - or a dog with sandy feet - in stride. The bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen are small but completely functional. The living room is huge, with a picture window giving a panoramic view of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, which has so many moods you can watch it for hours. This is a room that invites you to loll with a book, paint, sketch, knit or do puzzles, if the weather isn't the best. The deck is spacious and well furnished for enjoying the same views when the weather is fine. When a storm or high wind kicks up the surf it's a magnificent sight. We also enjoyed several spectacular sunsets. On a clear night, the inky sky is thick with stars that you never see when living in a city. One night we watched spectacular heat lightning on the ocean horizon for almost an hour.
Wearing our beach shoes we waded through the small stream beside the cottage at low tide for some amazing rock hounding around the point. At low tide, the water was warm enough for even us old folks to venture in for a short dip, then wash off in the outdoor shower. What a lovely touch!
A short drive away, long sandy Inverness Beach is amazing for walks. For some reason there's also an amazing amount of beach glass to be found there. We aren't golfers but lots of people mentioned the Cabot Links course, right beside the beach. There are also lots of trails for walking or cycling a short car ride away and places such as Cheticamp and the Highland Village at Iona are fascinating for longer excursions.
We had a wonderful time and hope to come back again. Thank you, Ann, for making us so welcome.

Perfect Cape Breton getaway
Ann,
thanks for sharing your wonderful piece of Cape Breton. couldn't have asked for a better spot to get away and enjoy Cape Breton. Kids loved watching the seals all week in the bay and searching for sea glass on our own beach. would recommend this property to anyone looking to get away.

Cabin was perfect for the two of us. It’s not fancy but it’s a true cottage feel. The beds were comfortable, the cabin was well outfitted and very clean. The host was extremely welcoming and accommodating to our needs. . The proximity to the great local beach and to the village of Inverness and the Cabot golf courses was perfect.

Tout équipé
On a adoré notre séjour.

A Spot to Relax
This place was awesome. Great location, peaceful and beautiful views. The Cabin itself is clean and tidy, also comes with everything you could think of. Although the beach isn't completly private, many locals use it throughout the day, it's still a great spot. The locals are very friendly and welcoming. Would 10/10 recommend. Anne is a great host, with a lovely spot.

Beautiful area of Cape Breton. The cottage is on the beach and is well stocked with anything and everything you might need. The beds are comfortable and the linens are of a high quality, as are the pillows. Ann is a lovely person to deal with and I can't recommend the cottage enough. You will not be disappointed. We certainly were not.

Waterside Gem
A wonderful little place with the perfect location. Very clean and functional, although not very updated. This is what a beach house used to be. When we stayed, it was very quiet. The house is alone in a cove with a shingle beach and a little stream. Local folks use the beach for walks. It might be a bit busy on a Summer day - not sure. The host was very attentive and helpful. It’s proximity to Inverness is also a plus. We would certainly return.

Superb, in spite of lost power in hurricane
Perfectly suited for enjoyment of the Bay, in all its moods. Ann went overboard to make our stay safe and exciting, with other family checking ina & bringing water, news of nearby facilities with generators, etc. All furnishings were great, and a backup generator would have been all we could have wanted . We loved it, and want to return!

Our stay at the cottage was breathtaking.
You have to experience this glorious piece of nature that creates a pretty amazing feeling of awe. The private powdery sand beach. The cliffs. The ocean. The sunsets. It is spectacular! This truly is Canadian natural beauty.

This is a gorgeous property right on the ocean!
You will not regret booking this property! It has everything that you could need and immediate access to a gorgeous beach. My family of 5 only got to spend 3 nights here, but wish we had time for more. Anne is an excellent host as she not only spends time explaining the property’s amenities, but is also willing to share information about the area and it’s history.

Incredible location!
We had a great time at the cottage. Ann was an incredible host and met us when we checked in and went over everything about the cottage and local sights.
The views are incredible and during low tide you can walk along the beach towards Inverness.
Everything you need is available in the cottage and other than food you don't need to bring a thing. My son loved the outdoor shower!
There are lots of things to do in the area and Inverness provides everything from groceries to great dining spots.
Our family had a great time at the cottage and would return in a heart beat.

Magical Place
I can't begin to describe what a special place this is. The cottage was perfect for my young family, and our son officially became a "beach kid" on this trip - with a spectacular beach right outside the door, how could he not? Ann was such a great host, and we can't wait to stay at at "Doctor Jim's" cabin again!

CApe Breton's beautiful West Coast
We arrived at the Cabin on Aug 5 for a 2-week stay to sunshine, calm waters and 27C. Our host met us and showed us around the roomy 3 bedroom cottage that has pretty well everything you need. Great decks and the outdoor shower is heavenly. The beach is 70 feet away and the water warm. The property is quite private with neighbours a distance behind or off in the distance on Gillis Mountain. While our driveway serves as a right of way for locals who like to come along to the beach, they were no bother and prefer to walk to the far side of the beach and not in front of the cottage. We were even serenaded by a piper one evening when folks came down for a a bonfire. Just above the property, Gillis Road takes you around the mountain with spectacular views - great walking. Inverness is just 3 km away with all the amenities. Biking trails from the village are well groomed and part of the Trans Canada Trail network. The only thing to keep in mind is that the surf can be very rough in August - making swimming risky on certain days. On days when the surf was up - we just checked with lifeguarding services at Inverness Beach and judged accordingly. A final note would be that the sunsets are spectacular. We would definitely go again.

Cozy Oceanside Cottage With Great Location and Warm Cape Breton Welcome!
We were four guys on a golf outing, staying 3 nights at this lovely ocean side cottage at the beginning of June. Despite a late arrival, Ann was there to greet us and was very responsive to any subsequent questions we had. The cottage itself was everything we were looking for and more. It was clean, very well looked after and the property has an interesting history. The 3 bedrooms and a futon bed in the living room worked well for us and the kitchen had everything we were looking for to make breakfasts/dinners. The big screen satellite tv was great to watch the Stanley Cup playoffs in the evenings. Wifi was a bit finicky but worked fine in the end with a little tlc given to the wireless router. There is just one bathroom indoors but try the outdoor shower...quite an experience! The location is special...we enjoyed barbequing (with thanks for the specially cut steaks from the local co-op) on the deck overlooking the ocean and were treated to a spectacular sunset on the second night. For golfers, it's just a few minutes down the road from Cabot Links, with a beautiful view of the signature16th at Cabot Cliffs from their beachfront.
We made stops at both the Red Shoe Pub and the Glenora Inn and Distillery in nearby Mabou...both very enjoyable with live music most evenings.
We were the first to book this property (we understand another couple ended up staying just before us) but would highly recommend it to others who are golfing, hiking, fishing or just wanting to experience some of that warm Cape Breton hospitality. Many thanks Ann!

unique spot on the north coast
We were the first renters and host Anne did everything to make sure we were comfortable, acquainted with the area, and keep herself acccessible by text and phone. So convenient to Mabou, Lake Ainslie and the cabot trail and national park. the ocean is literally your front yard. well heated. well stocked kitchen/cooking utensils, etc. would love to go back. plenty of solitude and great deck if you like.
