We loved this cute home away from home. Really nice courtyard and canopy of Magnolia trees and tropical palms make you feel like you are in a really cool tree house.
Rita is the perfect host, friendly and communicative.
The location was about a 15 minute walk from the French Quarter. Map quest will tell you to take Peters Street, don't do it, super sketchy area. Stick to the residential areas. We located about 10 minutes walking distance to Frenchmen Street which is wonderful.
The stay is unique because it has a spiral staircase and loft type bedroom with windows that open for a nice view of the courtyard. It's so quiet you can hear the water fountains too.
I would recommend this stay for a couple who can get around pretty well as the staircase is suited for the more agile types.
Thank you!

Apartment Exactly as Advertised
This is a very small unit, but you can make it work, even for a long stay. There is a narrow staircase, but it's well supported with rails to hold onto, but I would not recommend this unit for anyone with compromised mobility. The location is great, especially if you want to be in the Marigny/Bywater area. Communication with the owner was excellent, and the unit was immaculate, with some nice extras added. There are two cats on the property, but they will leave you alone. The outdoor seating area, which extends the apt. a bit, is lovely.

Cute place, good location
This guesthouse is as described. Very cute and clean. It is a small space, but that’s all we needed! Very good location with easy access to a lot of cute spots and good food!

Cute, quiet retreat in the perfect location
This is the perfect spot to stay in NOLA. It’s close enough to the French Quarter to walk, but far enough away to be quiet. Rita has created a calm oasis in the back where we enjoyed just sitting and talking. Rita was a wonderful host. Didn’t intrude, but was available if we had questions or needed anything. We would definitely stay again. One recommendation would be to add a small table or shelf on the other side of the bed for those who like to have a glass of water for during the night.

Wonderful hideaway!
We loved our stay in this charming, cozy spot. The outdoor seating area was lovely and we loved the upstairs bedroom. Rita was a great host and check in/check out could not have been easier. Thank you for helping make our trip to New Orleans perfect!

Oasis near the city
We loved our stay at Rita's guest house. Small place, perfect for a young couple looking to spend days exploring the city and have a place to come back and relax. Cable tv, AC, fan upstairs made the stay comfortable.
The 15-20min walk to Frenchman/French quarter helped us get our vacation 'exercise' in, and was very manageable. LOVED Bacchanal restaurant, though we saved that for last since it is not near the rest of the city activities. Plenty of cute cafes and restaurants nearby as well, including a great price for happy hour at the nearby Franklin, and also loved the St Roch Market. Walking in Crescent park was fun, and doing a self-guided walking tour of the historical homes in Garden District is a MUST! Easy to find some on google.
Loved NOLA and Rita's place, and can't wait to come back again!

I can’t say enough good things about Rita’s sweet little guest house and her warm hospitality. The house is in the rear of the main house, with a mini fridge and microwave in the downstairs area, and a little bathroom to the right. Spiral steps go up to a comfortable bed. Small but cleverly laid out and comfortable for us, two adults at 6’4 and 5’6. Rita is kind and responsive. We will definitely be staying here in return visits to NOLA. It contributed to a great visit :)

Hip, Cozy, Comfortable and Quiet in the Marigny
Location is Prime and Quiet enough to ensure you'll get your Zzzzz's. Stroll to Cake Cafe for breakfast. Head to Paladar 511 for a tasty dinner. Frenchman is easily within reach as well as all the fast-changing updates on St Claude. Guest House is a gem of design, with micro-detail to efficiency and economy. It all works beautifully. Host is as accommodating as can be. Home run for any NOLA traveler.

All of the details make it a superior stay!
My partner and I have booked with Rita for years now. Whether we're in the back guest house or the front apartment we know we will be comfortable! The spaces are impeccably kept, beds are comfy, needs are anticipated and the location can't be beat! If you want to be a tourist you're within walking distance of the French Quarter. If you want to chill-out with the locals you're just blocks away from the action. I especially love it's location removed from the street-- makes decompressing all that much easier. There's a lovely small area to get some sun and drink some coffee and watch the koi.
Put all of this together and it makes this a great place for relaxation in a city that can be a non-stop party. Can't wait to go back!

We would definitely stay here again. Friendly, colorful, quiet neighborhood. It is a few blocks to the cable car and not far from the French Quarter yet we realized Marigny neighborhood has a lot to offer. We especially liked Silk Road and Marigny Brassiere for dinners and New Orleans Cake Cafe and Press Street Station for breakfast. For live music we loved Maison and The Spotted Cat.
The winding staircase is very narrow and steep - (near hybrid of stairs and a ladder) so that may be challenging or annoying to some (especially to get from bed to bathroom in the middle of the night) but for a few nights stay for us it was fine.
The kitchen is more for heating leftovers in the microwave or making coffee/tea but it is New Orleans. Save your money and EAT OUT. My only regret on that is that we should have sought out cheaper places to eat to as not totally add to the neighborhood gentrification.
Rita was available and friendly when we needed her but otherwise she left us alone which we liked. Look at a map of the trolley before you go and you'll realize how convenient it is to get around.
If you tend to bicker a lot and NEED SPACE in your house frequently from your mate do realize this tiny guesthouse may prove challenging. :-)

Fabulous Garden Studio!
This is my second time staying at Rita's delightful garden studio and again it was a great experience! Love the architectural detail of this quaint "tiny house". At the same time you have all the conveniences you need; super comfy bed, A/C, coffee maker and supplies of coffee, sugar, cream, mini fridge for your beer and leftovers, microwave, bathroom supplies, etc. It also is really such a treat to have your own tranquil garden patio that comes with a soothing water feature and resident kitties!
There are soo many great restaurants in NOLA, but a few I would recommend are: Peche for seafood, Mr. B's Bistro for their fabulous BBQ shrimp, Toup's Meatery for the awesome crab claws and amazing meat board, the shrimp Po-boys at both Domilises and Parkway Bakery and Tavern (each different, but great in their own right), St. Roch Market for all kinds of food and drink, nearby Satsuma and Cake Cafe for breakfast, nearby Bachannal for a wonderful outdoor jazz, wine, and food experience, the Turkey and Wolf for excellent sandwiches. As I write this, I am already wanting to go back!
The best way to get around New Orleans is by bike. I highly recommend renting a bike for your whole trip. Alex's Bikes is a great bike shop in walking distance from Rita's on Marigny Street. Alex is super nice and he will set you up with everything you need at an affordable price. Even if you do not want a bike for your whole stay, I would definitely recommend a one day rental. Head up Esplanade to City Park, where there is wonderful biking , beautiful nature, the Art Museum, the superb (and free) Sculpture Garden, and the best coffee and beignets at Morning Call Cafe.
If you have a rental car (only recommend if you want to do day trips out of the city) I recommend a day trip south to the Barataria Preserve to for a lovely hike in the swamps and marshlands, and a day trip north to Abita Springs where you can explore the quirky Mystery House, visit the Abita Brewery, and then enjoy more nature on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain on your way back at beautiful Fontainebleau State Park.
You can enjoy all of this and so much morewith Rita's as your ideal home base away from home!

Charming
Charming little cottage with all necessary. Walking distance to French Quarter and Frenchmen Street. Interesting neighborhood; restaurants, bars, St. Roche Market and even small wine shop not so far. You really don't need a car in New Orleans when staying here.
We were also very lucky since Harvey destroyed rest of our Holiday plans, but thanks to Rita we could enjoy NOLA a bit longer.

Great little cozy guest house.
While small, the guest house had everything we needed and is in a good location to find the good food and music New Orleans is renowned for. The owner was very pleasant and helpful, while leaving us our privacy if we wanted it. I will certainly revisit this place when I return to New Orleans.

Living Large in a Small Cottage
My wife and I love visiting New Orleans. When she said she showed me this small guest house behind the main house, we decided it looked perfect for us. After spending a week living there, we fell in love with "our cottage" in New Orleans. The place is very clean and has all we needed to enjoy our trip to New Orleans for French Quarter Fest. Downstairs has a bathroom with a shower on one side and a high top table with a small refrigerator and microwave with a kitchen sink.It has all the kitchen and bath essentials you will need. Up the spiral staircase is the bedroom with a very comfortable bed. It cooled down at night, so we opened the large window and enjoy the cool night air. I relaxed outside on our patio next to the Koi pond every morning. Inside and out is decorated with that New Orleans style. Rita is a great host and we really enjoyed our time with her. She is very helpful with all the little extra things like allowing us to do laundry and storing luggage since we had a late flight home. This is a very unique place to stay and we highly recommend it.

Love this Place
This is the second year in a row staying in this wonderfully cute Marigny gem. It's everything you need, nothing you don't. Enjoy the peaceful oasis with the Koi pond or walk the 10 minutes to Frenchman Street.

Adorable room, great location, perfect for music lovers!
The neighborhood is really charming and quirky-fabulous, and because the guesthouse is set behind the house it remains quiet (aside from the occasional train whistle) despite being so close to the center of things. Both the Marigny and the nearby Bywater are fascinating districts with a lot to offer for those interested in food, music, and history. There is a very warm, friendly, laid back vibe, and we felt right at home. Frenchmen Street is an easy walk, (I think 6 blocks) for a late evening stroll after a long day, so we headed down there almost every night (although a couple of times it was 2 or 3 in the morning by the time we went). St Claude is also an easy walk, although we didn't head up there to hear music on this trip, next time we'll make it!
For breakfast we liked Cake and Elizabeth's (Elizabeth's is a bit of a walk, 10-12 blocks I think, and away from the center of town, but it is a nice walk and you can walk through Crescent Park to the French Market on your way back). There were also a couple of nice coffee shops within a block or two, if you don't feel like making your own and a 24 hour shop with sandwiches and snack (called Mardi Gras Zone, you can also get a last minute costume there). There were a couple of bars within a couple blocks, as well, although we didn't check them out. We liked walking down Royal and Dauphine, for architecture and flavor, but Press Street had a cute little community garden and goats.
The home itself is truly lovely, a very creative use of reclaimed pieces and really great use of space. It's small, for sure, but there is enough room for everything and the French windows keep it from feeling claustrophobic. The little patio is charming and serene, and the sound of the water fountain is very restful at night. There are two sweet kitties, the black one is happy to sit in your lap if you invite him, and some very pretty koi in the water feature.
On the negative side, accessibility could be an issue for those who are older (we're in the 45-65 demographic) or drunker than us. My husband's vision isn't great, and he didn't love using the spiral staircase in the middle of the night if he had to use the bathroom (not a deal breaker for us, if you think it might be a concern for you there is a picture you can check out). Also (and this is true of a lot of New Orleans) the sidewalks and streets in the neighborhood are pretty torn up, so watch your step and take very good shoes.

Amazing intro to NOLA!
Rita's place was so cozy, it was perfect for two people looking to visit New Orleans for the first time! The neighborhood was quiet and safe. We walked everywhere and had no problems navigating around to all the shops and restaurants. It was a memorable trip and we will definitely be back!!!

Cozy anniversary stay!
This property is adorable. We felt safe and RITA was very accommodating. NOLA is HOT!! in the summer and the upstairs was a little warm, but Rita responded quickly with some ideas and an extra fan. This place is small, but we weren't in the room that much and it didn't really bother us. We were a short walk from the French Quarter, which we did every day of our stay. This neighborhood is quite eclectic and we truly enjoyed exploring that part of New Orleans.

Charming spot in Marigny/Bywater
We had a great time. Lovely, adorable and tiny as advertised. Sweet garden tho and very quiet. Rita was a great communicator and very helpful. Super location, The Franklin, a very good restaurant was a block & 1/2 away. Other direction was Oxalis. Breakfast, cake bakery and market at St. Roch. We rented bikes nearby (bicycle named desire) and got all around the city. Crescent Park, new on the waterfront is nearby. Loved the hood.
