Peace like a river, love like a mountain
About this cabin rental
Located in Nelson County, this lovely cabin for $98 per night is a fantastic option for your next trip. Wintergreen Resort we’re not, but if you’re looking for a cozy (800-900 sq. ft.) mountain cabin with most of the comforts of home, Rocky Run Landing might be the place for you. Our motto is “You’re a long way away from it all before you ever get here.” Rocky Run Landing sits back in a loblolly pine grove just under the crest of Hawk Ridge in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The cabin is two miles up the Tye River from the village of Norwood and the James River in southern Nelson County, Virginia. The address is 3124 Cedar Creek Road, Arrington, VA 22922. The cabin has a telephone, but no long distance service. Your calling card will work with this phone. You’ll have to find just the right spot to use your cell phone. Wireless internet is available via satellite. Rocky Run Landing consists of a small first-floor bedroom, a small loft bedroom, a bath and a half, kitchen/dining area, and a great room. The great room has two sleep futons, chairs, and a small TV/DVR with cable. A wood stove is also in the great room. The small kitchen has a full-size refrigerator, deep sink, gas range, coffeemaker, and microwave oven. A dining table and four chairs are provided, along with basic pots, pans, and tableware. Rocky Run Landing has central HVAC, but often all you need are the ceiling and pedestal fans. The best experience is al fresco! The small first floor bedroom features a queen bed, nightstand and lamp, and a chest of drawers. Bed linens, blankets, pillows, and towels are also provided. The half-bath is off this bedroom and adjoins the full bath. Electric wall heaters provide auxiliary heat in the bedroom and bathrooms. The bedroom also has a couple of very small closets, which are the only clothes closets in the cabin. The staircase to the small loft is very steep and is not recommended for older guests or the very young. The loft is furnished with a double bed. A hiking trail and a gravel road will take you the 1/3-mile to the Tye River, but be warned — both are steep. You’ll need a 4-wheel-drive vehicle to drive to the river. You’ll need good legs to walk back to the cabin. By the riverside you'll find a well-groomed recreation area with picnic tables shaded by a canopy of white ash and river birch, a fire ring, and, in the summer, even a porta-potty. A 'beach' is cleared to the river. At normal water levels, this spot on the Tye is appropriate for supervised child's play and for adult water recreation. Fishing is also fine! History has it that the Tye River was Teddy Roosevelt's favorite fishing stream. Rocky Run Landing is a good location to either begin or end a paddling or tubing trip on the Tye/James Rivers. A canoe is available for rental and your hosts can assist with planning river trips from one-half mile to 20 miles (overnight). Shuttle service is included with canoe rental. Tubes are also available for a lazy drift downstream. Charcoal grills may be requested for use at the cabin or in the riverside picnic area (guests provide charcoal). The screened porch offers a serene view of Buffalo Ridge to the south across the river (if the leaves aren't too thick). Turn on the porch ceiling fans, relax in the porch swing, and whistle back to the whippoorwills. As the evening gets quiet, let the roar of the Tye River rapids lull you to sleep. If you decide you’d like to forgo seclusion and venture into the outside world during your stay, many places of interest are within a day trip of Rocky Run Landing. Jeffersonian and other historic properties abound, Civil War sites are easily accessible, Wintergreen Resort offers a variety of activities, and kid-friendly excursions are within kid-tolerance driving distance. Your hosts will be happy to recommend itineraries based on your interests and will check with Wintergreen to ensure any desired activity is available. Many wineries, breweries, and cideries are also in the area, along with local artisan shops. Rocky Run Landing is appropriate for a family vacation, spiritual sojourn, romantic escape, adventure quest, artist's or writer's retreat, friends' get-away, or sight-seeing base. Free canine companionship is offered for animal lovers! Keywords: Cabin, cottage, bungalow

The absolute perfect weekend get-away!

The cabin is perfect for a great escape from the city. A great place to stay for events or to get away, you can spend days never leaving the property. Walk to the peaceful park like setting along the river or drive (but make sure you talk to Charlie or Petis if you don’t have 4WD for the best way). The furnishings are nostalgic and the home is incredibly clean. Loved my escape time!

If you want to get away from all the noise and hustle and bustle - this is the place!
The photos do not do the cabin justice, it is very well stocked and Charlie and Pettis are a delight to work with.
Thank you for the great peace of mind!

Very nice. Just be sure to bring a something with 4 wheel drive to get out to the water. Charles was very helpful and even let us use his padlock to lock up our trailer (it's a nice area, just wanted to lock it up for piece of mind)

Our second time back. Wanted to explor the Tye River more. Beautiful and secluded. Charlie and Pettis are wonderful people and glad they offer this little hideaway.

We absolutely loved our stay at Rocky Run Landing and will be back to visit our new best friend, Tigger, very soon.

This cabin is everything you want a cabin to be-- cozy, comfortable, kitchen very well appointed, lots of interesting things to look at, and a sweet porch that we watched the thunderstorm, as recommended. Then just down the drive you basically have the equivalent of a state park all to yourself, a really beautiful spot next to the river. Very grateful to our host, who was very communicative and kind, especially considering we booked pretty late. Highly recommend!

This cabin was easy for us to find just following GPS, but we did lose service as we got closer to the location. The cabin is private and has a spacious screened in patio, a lovely living room with wood stove and very cool loft above, with an additional bedroom and two baths attached to the kitchen. We loved our stay and the cabin had everything we needed for the weekend. Charlie was very kind and gave us the rundown when we arrived. It is easy to access the river and wow- so spacious down there. We took our two dogs and they had the time of their lives swimming all day and stomping around the sandy beach area. The river wasn’t too fast and we could walk all the way across at the height it was. We were able to explore leisurely on our kayak and saw plenty of fish- bring your gear! The spot was beautiful and scenic. The owners’ dog did come down to join us one day and was as sweet as could be. We hope to make plans to come back soon!

Pictures don’t do it justice. The walk to the river is definitely a hike but it is so worth it. My dog loved playing and swimming in the river. Cabin had everything we could have wanted. We very much enjoyed our stay and would love to return.

It was so relaxing and quite. There is great scenery there and a wonderful spot beside the river to hangout and listen to the water and just be in the nature. The owners are so nice and welcoming.

The owners/hosts went above and beyond what other past VRBO hosts have done; The unit was clean and offered far more amenities and comfort than many brand name hotels and timeshares. Hope to rent from these hosts again in the near future.

Our stay was wonderful. The hosts were fantastic that communication. They gave detailed information before we arrived and were very gracious. We were going to have to check in very late and they even offered to be called any time of night if we had any issues.
They had coffee grounds and supplies available in the fridge which was very appreciated.
It's out in the woods so zero cell coverage but they were great to let us know ahead of time. It was a break from the buzz of hectic world we live in.
The cabin reminded me of visiting my grandmas house.
The screened in porch was a nice way to look out over the woods and enjoy a cup of coffee listening to the birds chirp.

Took my son here for the weekend. It rained all day Saturday but we still had a blast just hanging out relaxing . We walked down the trail to the river. It’s really nice down there .it looks like a great fishing spot kayaking too. Nice clean stocked cabin.

Great experience! Everything was better than expected! The house was extremely clean and well supplied with everything we needed. The property was beautiful. Trigger was a sweet companion for my son and grandsons. I was a little hesitant staying alone in an area with no cell service and 4 kids. But I felt completely safe, in fact I even slept out on the welcoming hammock one night. Charlie was a great host! Will definitely be returning!

ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE! We stayed for a long weekend but it was awesome! So beautiful and peaceful!
This was our first vacation bringing our dogs so I was a little nervous but to my surprise when we got there they had an extra crate on the porch just in case and extra food and water bowls! They also had a baby gate which I was grateful for because I forgot mine!
Mr. Charles met us there and showed us around, he even took my husband and daughter down to the river so we would know how to go. He even brought us a couple extra tubes down! Honestly I felt right at home! They're so nice and accommodating! We could've even let our doggies chill with theirs but I wasn't sure how mine would be so they just kept theirs with them. I was humbled by this because most people wouldn't even mention something like that! The house was so beautiful too! I loved the open beems and the cabin look! The kitchen had everything we needed as well! Even a first night of ice in the ice maker! The drive to the river takes exactly 2 minutes for us, we had a kyack, crawdad boat, and scanoe which all were great for the river! There's even a shallow spot for our kiddo to go in and at that time wasn't moving fast enough to take her to far out. The perfect size! Also he had grills and a porter potty down there, it was nice and cleared and you could see so far!
All in all we will definitely be back!!
Great people and beautiful spaces! But don't forget, NO CELL SERVICE, totally unplugged family and friend fun!
A utopia in the woods by the river!
Thanks again y'all!! :D

Sorry we missed meeting Pettis! We are definately coming back with the grandkids! Couldn't have asked for a better place or hosts! Thank you Mr. Charles for helping make our 39th wedding anniversary so special!

Very friendly and welcoming host. Everything was stocked even though we brought extra's just in case. Great idea having vcr & vhs movies even though we stayed on the river most of the time.

We enjoyed our stay very much. Our son was graduating from Liberty University in Lynchburg. We knew the city was going to be extremely crowded and hour waits at every restaurant, so we decided to go outside of town to find a place that was a home away from home. We were very pleased with the accommodations and the beauty of the property. I would highly recommend this place, and if we’re ever up that way again would not hesitate to stay here. The commute to Lynchburg was not bad at all.
