About this cottage rental

Looking for quiet, quaint, cozy look no further. Kick back relax, enjoy nature/native surroundings. Our cottage located in an ole fishing village as if stepping back in time, especially these days huge fancy structures taking over. Our beach cottage literally 95 steps to the bay/beach, free parking, no beach tags required here. We are most likely the southerly location having spectacular sunsets, fewer crowds, and gentle waves. If you never seen horseshoe crabs (harmless) than August is their mating time, the beach becomes inundated by them.. They existed 445 million years and are "living fossils"unchanged. During their mating season on the beach many get stranded/stuck on the beach unable to return to the sea. They look tank like with crab like appendages. If your into nature like myself then check out these amazing arthropods that predate dinosaurs. Cape May is only 15 min away you can find twinkling gaslights, Victorian homes adorned with holiday lights, quaint shops, and historic trolley rides transform this elegant seaside resort town into a Charles Dickens village. If you 're looking to capture the spirit depending on time of year than join us as we experience the turn of the century splendor of Cape May, New Jersey Delaware Bay beaches. Bay beaches are free, if visiting the ocean side Wild-wood and Cape May badges/paid parking are required. I prefer coming after the Summer, September through December are best times in my opinion with all the festivals/Christmas house tours. So my home is located approx 15 minutes.to Wild wood's boardwalk or Cape May ocean side.. My yard partially protected by Wildlife refuge, so we keep it rustic to support native wildlife. It's very private and tranquil adorned with natures lush shade trees/shrubs a cooling backdrop during bright days. Our yard partially sectioned off for wildlife ONLY having, an abundance of prickly cactus, bunnies/birds so indeed a sanctioned habitat. Guests are restricted off limits in that area, however you are welcome using the rear patio fire pit.. Last minute essentials needed, no problem all with in 5 minuets for Groceries, Dollar Store nearby, Big Lots, Acme, Ship-Rite, try Fish and fancy by local fishermen, eat in or take out plus many ethnic restaurants. On my counter is a basket with brochures for things to do and see. From my house Going towards the bay make a right The Fisher mans Inn overlooks the bay. I prefer less crowds so I beach by Harpoon Henry's (Townbank) area 15 min drive or near the Ferry is a private area. Directions: Make R onto Bayshore follow the bend make R at McDonalds go very end turn L onto the access road. Plenty free parking, bathrooms, grills, table/bench under shade. Want more excitement visit crowded Historic Cape May, take tours/trolley loads of shopping Washington Street Mall (15 min) away are antique shops, gift shops, boutiques, etc. September offers loads of activities with the Irish Festival, jazz festivals, food festivals, beer/wine tasting it's busy as 4th of July Don't forget to visit World War II LOOKOUT TOWER adjacent to the Lighthouse (20)min drive. PS please treat my home as you would your own with respect and TLC. It's SMOKE-FREE/SANITIZED AFTER EACH GUEST. Since COVID we do not supply linens, towels, bed sheets (full/queen) or pillow case We supply the first initial paper towels./toilet paper .

If you're looking for somewhere simple, quiet, & safe to stay this is a good place! It's about 20 minutes to both Cape May & Wildwood beaches, Sunset Beach, Cape May Lighthouse, & Washington Street outdoor shopping. The house is clean, driveway parking for 2 vehicles, & backyard is shaded. The bay beach was good for walks (the dog loved it!) & sunbathing, but not for swimming.

Great location for leashed walks with your dog on the beach morning and evening and fantastic sunsets a block away. Cape May promenade with fantastic dining and shopping and surf views only 20 minutes away. We went during prime season so we had to be strategic as to parking for our swim in the ocean day (got the parking ap and arrived at 9:00 am and ate breakfast at Bill’s Pancakes first). Mary has a fantastic clothes washer & drier that served us well, as did her outdoor shower (but note her knobs are reversed as to temperature). We had a brief few moments of panic when we first got there and had trouble with her door lock and couldn’t get Mary on the phone, but we finally figured out that the “0” was erased from use and was originally on the “9” key. We also had trouble getting the internet but when we finally talked to Mary on day 2, we discovered the prior guest had changed the password from what Mary had listed. Mary told us how to get the new password from the tv and problem solved. Things I wish had been different: lots of missing lightbulbs. Mary said they were in the kitchen cabinets but I could not find any. She then offered to reimburse us if we went up to Walmart to purchase some. Truthfully we were too busy being out and about to do that so we made due. Highly recommend going to Sunset Beach for miniature golf, ice cream, souvenirs and another take on the sunset (free parking) and Cape May Point park for the lighthouse and some local lore/exhibits (they have hiking too but it was too hot while we were there). Also highly recommend the zoo (free parking) where my son enjoyed the animals and the carousel (they also have a ropes course). Would not say this house is a destination in itself (I personally was disappointed in the fire pit/ability to use the backyard in the evening), but it’s proximity to good times and as a supportive base for them, it is a good find. Thank you, Mary!

Before this vacation I didn’t fully understand how how profound the effect of beaches in such an intimate, natural setting could be. Just a short walk to an access point to what felt like another dimension - a huge, sprawling coastline peppered here and there with people, but essentially giving the impression it’s only you and majestic Mother Nature. Our first walk was during low tide and even on a cloudy day, the gentle glow of the sunset was calming. Nature surrounds you - as described, horseshoe crabs were left behind as I’m sure they have for many, many years. Ripples in the sand formed by the water with pools reflecting created such a majestic scene. The following day we returned during high tide and were amazed to find just 5’ brought the waterline so far in compared to the previous day. The sand was soft, gentle currents serenaded us, and there was no noise pollution - incredible. The house is so conveniently located to this relaxing portal, yet only 15/20 minutes drive to the hustle and bustle of the boardwalk and beaches in Wildwood or the charming Cape May promenade and beaches. It was hot and summery as expected so the yard wasn’t plush for walking, but created yet another inspirational setting as we watched wild rabbits scurry about, eating and cooling in the sand amongst a sea of what I learned is the only cactus native to the eastern US. (I spotted one shaped like Mickey Mouse.) birds abound and sing their songs in the morning while crickets take over the evening. The house is beautiful and open concept. Beware the first step into the house though, my hands were full so I didn’t see the slight step down inside the door. Great communication with the property owner. If you are hoping for a touristy night-life condo experience, this might not be for you. But if you’re hoping to find serenity, this is it. We will be back again for sure unless she no longer opens the home to others and prefers to keep it to herself. After reading one of the reviews here, I could understand if she did. I pray that doesn’t happen though - and future travelers respect and appreciate the opportunity to stay there. I know we do. We also took our dog and that was so huge in our decision to stay there. He wasn’t able to run in the yard because like I said, it’s summer and the grass is not plush - he wasn’t fond of walking on it. If he enjoyed water, we could have taken him to the beach before 11am or after 4pm. We loved every moment!

It was so nice to be able to bring our dogs and have them run around at the bay. They absolutely loved it. The sunsets are picture perfect every night! Absolutely beautiful. And the water in the bay was nice and warm.
