Located in Dauphin Island, this charming cottage for $130 per night is a fantastic option for your next vacation. Experience Dauphin Island the way it’s been experienced for a century. This updated 2 bedroom, 1 bath shotgun built in 1916 is in the center of Dauphin Island Village, less than a block from biking trails and a short walk to the Indian Mound, Goat Tree and Green Parks. Sleeps 6: king, double & sofa pull out. A Central Location: The Whale House is really in the center of 'town'. I use quotation marks because there are only about 1,100 full-time residents and the entire Island is only 14 miles long. You're able to walk to most activities and bicycle riding gets you to the places that walking doesn't. Three of the island's 4 restaurants are within walking distance...not including the Bakery, behind the cottage. The beaches are accessible via bicycle, short car ride, or the town's public transportation (two minivans). Things We Love About the Island: There is a large bird sanctuary that provides excellent walking paths - you'll see beach, forest and swamp on the walk. We love to go there. There is also a small forested bird watching area that we like to walk through as well (an old Indian mound). The Estuarium is great. They often have fun classes as well as a great tour through their fish/sea life exhibits.

The kitchen was efficient and stocked with basics. It was nice to have washer and dryer. The first night we could hear critters in the walls and the attic, did not hear anything after that. The place was cozy and met our needs. It was a relatively quiet neighborhood during the Christmas holiday.

Very comfortable and cozy place for our Dauphin Island vacation!! This was my daughters first time visiting the beach and this was the perfect location for just that!! The cottage had everything we needed and extra amenities too!! The location is perfect, in the center of the island you can get to either end in about 10 mins. The host was very accommodating with no issues at all!! The pictures match the description, actually everything was better than pictured!! Would recommend to anyone looking for a lowkey vacation spot!!

We had a great visit at The Whale House and Dauphin Island - We do Recommend The "West" Beach! House is not really walking distance to the beaches, but VERY doable to come back and forth in car or golf cart.

I have stayed at numerous property on this island. This particular property is very comfortable, can accommodate a family, and has a well-stocked kitchen. Plenty of room inside and out. My only troubles were a lack of hot water from the bathroom sink and non-working lamps. All minor compared to the quality and comfort of this cute house. I would stay here again.

The house was comfortable, the kitchen well stocked, and the location close to great birding spots. The problem with the listing is that it could be important to mention that you can only access the bathroom through one of the bedrooms. It would not work for two couples.

This property was adequate for our family of 4. Everything is described true. Remember it is an old house and therefore the floors are not level. Many places were within walking distance. We enjoyed many of the things the island had to offer. We especially liked the beaches and the fact that we had a lot of space to ourselves. I highly recommend the island as a family destination!

Very easy to navigate through the app, house was clean and ready, I would say it was centrally located on the island. Had a few questions and were answered quickly. Also had to adjust our stay by 1 day, owner had no problem refunding our money for that day.
Would definitely recommend, and would certainly stay there again if we visited again.

I went with two of my best friends from high school and we loved our weekend at the Whale House. It had everything we needed for cooking, extra blankets, cute decorations, the beds were pretty comfortable, and the location was great! Right next to some local shops, a gas station, and centrally located to the beaches. We loved getting to relax at the house and explore the island, we highly recommend the Whale House for not just friends who want some quality time, but also families and couples who want to get away to a quiet island with friendly locals and great beaches. Patricia was also great to communicate with and responded to any questions or messages quickly. Thankfully, we didn’t need for anything!

3rd year here and always impressed by the cleanliness and the location in the original neighborhood of this island... Quiet and peaceful..close to everything..no it's not on the beach and the quaint neighborhood is very cozy. Owners are very accommodating to every need as everything you need is in the well stocked kitchen..will be back.

Charming house in a quiet neighborhood.
Quiet neighborhood, small, charming, comfortable house. Great location for walks, around the neighborhood, and in a couple nature areas nearby. There is also a fabulous bakery right around the block, and several small shops and restaurants also in walking distance. Only a short drive to anything on the island. It was very hot while we were there, but the air conditioning kept the house comfortable. Great place for a small family or a couple. One thing to be aware of, is that everything is in a line. If someone is sleeping on the sofa bed in the front room, they have to walk through both the bedrooms to get to the bathroom. The washer and dryer are located in one of the bedrooms, and a bit noisy to run while sleeping. These arrangements were totally ok for our family, but something to be aware of.

Wonderful stay at the Whale House
The Whale House is a comfortable cozy place to stay on Dauphin Island! Everything you need cooking and preparing food in the amazing eat-in kitchen has been provided for by the host. The beds were extremely comfortable and having a washer and dryer was a bonus! Everything is clean and well organized. The location in a quiet neighborhood allows for easy access to anything you would want to see on the island. Our friends and family love biking to the various places. We would definitely rent the Whale House again.

Check in and arrival could not have been easier! The well-appointed kitchen with gas stove was much appreciated. Towels and toiletries were available, like a nice hotel. We welcomed the cold water bottles in the refrigerator when we arrived. The only negative was the layout of the rooms -- it was hard to have privacy, since you have to walk through one bedroom to get in and out the front door, and the only way into the bathroom was through the other bedroom. I got no response when checking out early, which is the only reason I gave 4 stars
(instead of 5) for communication with property manager.
