Nestled in Smith Mountain Lake, this charming house for $715 per night is a fantastic choice for your next trip. Waterfront home located on wooded lot with easy slope to custom dock. Be sure to view our video for greater impression of property. A little dated since we have put in new block steps, walkways, and fresh deck paint. Dock offers multiple levels for sun and fun. Spend the day on the dock, fishing, swimming, tubing, or jumping off the upper deck. Keep snacks in the dock refrigerator or microwave. Comcast TV over the covered area bar. Floater dock keeps your boat ready to deploy. Relax in our country porch swing or hammock, have a meal on upper or lower areas facing water and main channel. Before you turn in , relax by the fire pit with family and plan your next day! Split firewood in reach of your chair. We rent Saturday to Saturday, CHECK IN at 4:00 PM and CHECK OUT is 10 AM. **The pet fee provided in the quote is only for 1 pet therefor if you are bringing any more than 1, please make mention of any others in order to be billed appropriately and also note that the maximum dogs allowed at the property is 2. The pet fee is calculated as $175.00 per dog per week**

As always this was an awesome place to stay. The home is very clean, the view is amazing and the location is perfect. Homeowners are very helpful and quick to respond.

This house was perfect for our family of 6 adults and 2 children. We gathered on the upper deck every morning for coffee and every evening for cocktails and dinner. We swam off the dock, and as a bonus, it provided an enviable place to do some remote work while we were there. We will definitely consider returning here for our next family vacation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property was just as described in the listing and very clean. Couldn’t have asked for a better location either. Beautiful views from both the decks and the dock. Very quiet and peaceful which is just what we were looking for. Homeowner was very responsive and helpful.

Cozy cottage. Extremely clean. Plenty of bath towels for use during the stay. The house is on a small private cove which makes it relatively quiet. Much quieter than the larger and busier coves. The house has an amazing view of the main channel from the first and second floor. The views are perfect whether inside or outside. The house is also surrounded by beautiful mature trees that keep things cool on the deck and patio.
The dock is ok. It’s on the small side without remarkable furniture that we’ve seen on other docks. What is there is dated and not very comfortable. The dock house is equipped with a great refrigerator-freezer which was very convenient. The calmness of the cove made the dock great for family swimming and floating.
There are some disappointments.
The renter is responsible for hauling their own trash to the dump. The owner states that there is no trash collection in the neighborhood. This appears to not be true. We saw many of the other properties in this neighborhood pulling their trash totes to the curb.
There are kayaks at the house available for an additional fee. A rental at this price point should not have a charge for the kayaks. Other rentals do not charge.
The owner is too involved during the stay. He called to discuss his concerns with the water level of the lake, wanting to visit the property to check on things. Given that he has owned the cottage since the late 90’s I am sure that he knows that accurate water level and water release schedules are available on a web site. This was invasive and unnecessary.
The owner arrived before we left at the end of the stay. This did not change our check out time. Upon the owner's arrival he broached the subject of an uncharged pet fee. He had contacted us earlier via email and phone about this fee. We tried unsuccessfully to contact VRBO and requested he work with VRBO about the fee. He asked that we leave him cash for the fee. He ultimately got it taken care of with VRBO (on departure day) and we immediately paid the fee. This one-on-one interaction with the owner over the pet fee crossed the line.
The final interchange with the owner during our exit was his providing of driving instructions for my wife and daughter as they were leaving the driveway. There was something in the yard that he was concerned that they would hit on the way out. It’s a large driveway with more than ample room to stay off the grass. This was again invasive.

Very relaxing lake house! For a SML property the steps were very easy to navigate to the dock! Dock was great with TV, bluetooth speakers, and refrigerator. Felt very safe swimming off the dock. Not tucked in a creepy cove. Teens loved playing some of the board/card games. Enjoyed that all 7 of us were able to sit around the coffee table to play. Proximity to water accessible restaurants was a plus. The property listing was accurate. I’m a tea drinker so the only thing missing for me was a tea pot.

First lake vacation
The property is as advertised, the location is perfect, we were fortunate with the weather, so everything went smoothly, and we had a great week. They have everything you need: dock with floating dock, kayaks for rent if wanted, kitchen well stocked, and a firepit with wood, starter and ignitor. Michael (Host) was very supportive, available, and accommodating. we would definitely stay here again.

It is much bigger than it looks. The dock and the lake were a highlight of our stay. The cove was great for swimming and kayaking and the proximity to multiple Marinas to rent boats, etc. was great. The owners and their son could not have been more helpful! I highly recommend and we would definitely stay there again.

wonderful trip
House was exactly as advertised.SML area is always beautiful. Communications with owner was very easy. Having well seasoned wood for the firepit was great. That is not always the case on home rentals. I would recommend this property to anyone.

Our overall experience was really pretty good. The house slept everyone comfortably and had everything we needed. The house is decorated to the owner's taste, but we share some of those tastes so that was no issue.

We found that a little misleading, but we have our own kayaks so it was a non-issue.

Great Property and Wonderful Owners
House was extremely clean, well equipped and has a wonderful view. Unfortunately, we had difficult weather with storms and high water. The Fox's (owners) paid enormous attention to our needs and made sure that we had a great time. The house has so many extras that made our stay even though it was raining including nice TVs and plenty of games. Will definitely be back next year if not even sooner.

Great lake vacation.
The property was extremely clean, the layout handled 7 of us easily and the dock provided great access to the lake. The power boats can whip up the waves a bit by afternoon if you are kayaking. The kitchen could use some bigger non-stick frying pans for cooking but that was our only minor issue. We had great weather and a great time.

Incredible location
Fabulous site on Smith Mountain Lake! The house was comfortable and had all we needed. The dock and its facilities were amazing! Would have loved to have wifi available. We would recommend highly!

Dock and Deck were the places to be!
This was our 4th summer vacation to SML. We have learned each year what our family likes in a rental, location being #1 on the lake, amenities on the dock (as that is where we are 80%of the time), pet friendly, not too many steps or too steep of an incline to get to the water, and a good layout and # of bedrooms. Our stay at the Fox Lakation Home was a mixture of highs and lows.
Lows-- Upon booking early to get our preferred week through Home Away we were shocked that the costly deposit was due so early and not refundable. This forced us to purchase renters insurance for an additional fee. Our several interactions with the owner left us extremely taken back by response, tone, and early arrival that provided us an unwelcoming departure. House could stand many upgrades but the outside was so pleasurable, especially the decks.
Should have been informed of top step to the upper deck was a safety hazard, grill ignitor wasn’t working with nothing left for us to light the grill with, some of the tv’s were not working. Three of the bedrooms were crowded with extra chairs and no room to put your personal stuff. Living room was cluttered with so much unnecessary books and magazines, nick nacks. Many areas of the home were labeled owner and had their personal items everywhere that left very minimal room for your basic items.
Highs-- The porch swings were an excellent addition to the home. The dock was all that we hoped it would be. Property wasn’t steep and felt like you were right on top of the water from decks. Luckily we did spend 80% of the time outside soaking in the relaxing breeze, sound of the waves, and appreciating the large shade trees that covered the back of the home. The cove was delightful as we enjoyed the boats passing and seeing the sunset from the driveway.

Beautiful Lakefront Property
Lovely week at the lake. The house was comfortable and slept 6 just fine. The party dock was great. We rented a pontoon boat for the week and had no problem docking it at the house. We really loved this house. It was quaint and charming and had a very pretty view. We would definitely come back again.
Only suggestions would be to upgrade some of the mattresses and remove more of the owners belongings so that there was more storage space.

Absolutely perfect!
This is our 4th vacation at SML and was by far the best. Home had the perfect location and had everything we needed. The boathouse was a big hit with our teens. Close to Bridgewater. Not too many steps. The owners are awesome. Definitely will be repeat renters.

Great SML location with awesome views, huge dock with many amenities. You won't be disappointed.
This property is located in a small cove with limited wake. Great for laying out on rafts, kayaking, swimming and boating. The lake can be seen from the front and back of the house. Great sunsets in the front with a community boat if needed. We had more than enough room for 8. Downstairs bedroom is a bit small but there is a huge bathroom on this level. This house is a hop skip and jump away from some of the local Dock bars. There is ample parking for 4-6 cars. Upper deck was great for breakfast and dinner. Seating for 12. Easy boat access and docking for a pontoon or boat of your dreams. Gas grill available. Bar, fridge, and microwave available on the dock. Upper dock has ample seating but bring umbrellas if you want shade. Water temp was 83 degrees first week of August. Be prepared to chill on SML. Most properties like this one do not have wifi. TV and social media are limited but if you want a relaxing week or two on the water, you will not be disappointed. Tennis courts within walking distance. We would go back to this property. The owners were more then helpful in answering our questions during booking and the house was clean and organized upon arrival. Thanks for a wonderful vacation!

Fabulous Location - Exceptionally Clean!
After eight summers spent at SML, we found the location of this house to be the best. It is close to all of the "excitement" at the lake as it is just a five minute boat ride to Bridgewater. It is also just slightly in a cove, but very close to the main channel, which gave us plenty of opportunities to enjoy the mischief in the waters by the passing boats. Needless to say, the view of the lake was superb, given the great location as well.
The house was very clean upon arrival. We hope we left it just as clean when we left. A slight negative would be the excess personal belongings left in some of the rooms, leaving them a bit cluttered and a few of the drawers in the bedrooms and the cabinets in the kitchen unusable as they were reserved for "the owner".
There was plenty of room for our party of mostly seven (eight for two days). All of us were very comfortable, although the bed in the main bedroom was very lumpy and should be replaced. When we wanted to spread out, though, there were many places to disappear to - both inside and out. (Of special mention is the "Fox Two" dock to the left looking at the lake from the house as it is covered with shade just about all day). Great areas to read books, to stretch out alone to enjoy the scenery or to just plain take a nap. We also utilized the fire pit even though the temperature was in the high 80's/low 90's all week long - almost perfect weather.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We thank the Foxes for sharing their home on SML - from your new friends in NOVA, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Great week at Smith Mountain Lake
Our family of 8 had a great time together at the Fox home. The house, yard and docks were just what we needed to relax as a family. There was ample room in the house so no one felt too closed-in and it had plenty of books to read! But who wanted to read. Since the weather was great, we spent lots of time in the water and on the dock. It was fun to troll around looking at all the homes around the lake and find a cove to pull into for swimming and fishing. Great home for a getaway.

Great location, beautiful view of the lake
The house is beautiful, with a gorgeous view of the lake. Everything was clean upon arrival and the property is really amazing. Having linens and towels provided was a real plus. The owner is really friendly and very accessible if you have any questions. Bridgewater Marina is 5 minutes by boat. We rented a boat, tube and wakeboard and had a great week on the lake. Had a wonderful meal at The Landing restaurant.

We have rented houses at SML for years and this one is our favorite. The house is older, but so well maintained that it's a non issue. The dock, easy water access and yard would make up for it even if it was a shack. We will definitely be back.

-- Owner--very receptive and easy to access during our stay. We had some issues with the TV and the power went out. Mr. Fox was kind and helpful-did not seem at all bothered that we called him 3x! Takes very good care of the property.
-- House--not a luxury listing but very comfortable. Furniture and beds were in good shape and comfortable. Had a great deck on main level and a patio on ground level. It is pet friendly but doesn't look like it or smell like it.
--yard--very well kept. had lots of green space for our 2 dogs.
--dock--by far the best feature of the place. Our kids loved jumping from the 2nd story dock and we had lots of room for our boat and jet ski without taking away swimming space. The full size fridge was awesome for storing drinks and snacks at the dock. the TV was a great respite when the kids needed a break--the kids never came into the house until dinner.
Just a few suggestions:
--Cabinet space. This was the biggest drawback. The house sleeps 8 and serves 40. There was zero space to store food. I can't imagine any family needing an entire cabinet (3 full shelves) of coffee cups. And I counted 7 ladles. There is no way any family of 8 could use all that stuff. We ended up removing some larger items and storing them in the hallway so we could have a cabinet for food. I recommend pairing down and leaving a couple cabinets for the renters.
--The deck on the main level really needs a power washing as there is mildew growing on it.
--The TVs could definitely use an upgrade.
--It would be awesome if the deck on the main level was set up so the patio under it could be used while it's raining. We had quite a few rain showers and sat outside with umbrellas just because we didn't want to go inside.
These are just my family's suggestions. In no way would any of these deter us from coming back to this house but wanted to include them in the review. We had a great stay and can't wait until next year!

My family and I had a wonderful time at this charming home on the water. The location of this property is absolutely fantastic and very near to Bridgewater Plaza! The home was very clean upon arrival and everything was neat and in good working order. The two level dock was fantastic as well!!!!
