About this cottage rental
Home sleeps a maximum of 8 guests. NO COLLEGE OR HIGH SCHOOL GROUPS ALLOWED. Families only. Relax on the covered deck with family and friends while watching the sun set on the beautiful Lagoon. Private Pier available. The beautiful Gulf of Mexico is across the street. Barbecue and picnic outside or take advantage of the wonderful fresh seafood available in the area. Our fully equipped kitchen will make preparing this wonderful seafood a breeze. Enjoy cycling, walking or running...biking/walking lanes are available on beach road. Smart TV’s are provided for streaming your favorite shows. WIFI available. Small private white sandy beach with pier is exclusively available for our guests. So, take your lounge chair and catch some rays while the gentle waves lap at your feet. Area is great for kayaking and other small beach craft. Private outdoor shower. Two bedrooms open up to a balcony/deck with seating, facing the beach side with Gulf view. Large deck area also facing Lagoon with outdoor furniture and a large bed swing where you can relax and enjoy watching the sea gulls, pelicans, ducks and our resident friendly blue heron, Henry!!! This home was lovely, well outfitted and convenient to all Gulf Shores has to offer. There were 8 in our group (4yrs-56yrs) and we had plenty of space. The beds were comfortable, kitchen had everything we needed, Wi-Fi worked great. The outside lagoon/fishing pier was so fun. We “hunted” hermit crabs and enjoyed watching Henry our resident Herron. The deck swing made the sunrise and sunset watching perfect! The beach is just across the street, easily accessible. We will definitely stay again.

A stay at 'Mermaid's Lair' is an unforgettable experience! This 4-bedroom waterfront house in Gulf Shores, Alabama, is beautifully remodeled and spacious, comfortably accommodating eight guests.
Bedrooms are inviting, each with well-thought-out arrangements including a king bed, two queens, and two singles. The modern bathrooms cater to all preferences, with one shower and one combination tub/shower.
The living room, kitchen, and deck/patio provide ideal spaces for relaxation and socializing, with the deck offering tranquil waterfront views. Essential amenities like air conditioning, washer/dryer, TV, internet, and parking make for a seamless stay.

We loved the property! It was perfect for our family. Sitting on the porch watching the sunset was wonderful. Loved the decor and the owner has thought of everything you need for a great vacation. The owner was very easy to communicate with.

We loved every second of our week! Easy to communicate with the owners if we needed something . I would recommend bringing vinegar for jellyfish and a blower to blow sand off the deck we swept 14 millions time with having 3 little ones back and forth 🙄.. we had a blast !!

Absolutely Amazing Vacation Home
My family and I vacationed at the Little Mermaid in June of 2022. The home was amazing and the location was perfect for everyone in our group. The private pier to the lagoon was wonderful, we caught several fish,crabs, and even a small sting ray. The beach being right across the street gave us the best of both worlds. The ocean was beautiful and clear during our entire stay. The check-in/out process was seamless and the owner was amazing in every way! My family and I highly recommend vacationing at the Mermaids Lair.

Love it.

Come to Gulf Shores every year. This is the first year I’ve been let down by a VRBO listing. The nice looking little beach area advertised in the photos on the gulf side was disgusting. Broken glass, debris, a brown flow of water coming from next door, and the only broken dock in the neighborhood made for an unpleasant stay. Inside, other than a suspect HVAC unit, the house was good for my family. The money saved and put out for this house just wasn’t worth it in my opinion.

We arrived the same day as a tropical storm so the gulf was very rough but the private lagoon beach allowed us to still play in the water. The gulf is only a short walk just across the street. This was our first trip to Gulf Shores and we hope to visit again soon.

Mermaid’s Lair
We loved our week at the mermaid lair! The location is absolutely awesome. We arrived the same day as a tropical storm so the gulf was very rough but the private lagoon beach allowed us to still play in the water. The gulf is only a short walk just across the street. Laura has thought of everything when it comes to her house. It’s fully stocked with everything you need for a week away from home. This was our first trip to Gulf Shores and we hope to visit again soon.

This was our first stay on a lagoon and we enjoyed having the lagoon on the property and then being able to walk across the street to the beach.

The house was in a perfect spot! Sits just across the street from the beach. It’s about a 5 minute walk (max) to the beach. Very easy access. We sat on the bay at night and caught crabs. Beautiful sunsets! The house is just far away from all the hustle and bustle in Gulf Shores. This was our first time staying in West Beach and we loved it! There was plenty of room for 8 of us. We had teenage boys and they had plenty of room to roam. We brought corn hole and set it up below the house. There is a lot of room under the house to hang out, cookout. The chairs below the house and picnic table came in very handy. The upstairs deck with the bed swing is a great spot too! One of my teenagers slept in the bed swing every night. 😊 The beds were very comfortable. The owner is very polite and responsive. We would love to stay at Mermaid’s Lair again!

Refreshing retreat
We absolutely love everything about the mermaid lair! My kids had a blast daily and the water access to the lagoon and the big beach allowed us to walk everywhere. Attention to detail is obviously the owners specialty and we love the charm of this beach cottage. We would love to come back in the future!

Mermaids lair
This home is comfortable and is tastefully decorated. The private beach was great and the pier to the dock was icing on the cake. Quiet except for the wind rustling thru the palm leaves on the back patio. Wonderful sunrises and sunsets. Couldn't wish for anything more.

BEAUTIFUL HOUSE AND LOCATION
My husband and I stayed here with my daughter, son-in-law, and their two young boys ages 5 and 7. We all loved this house and the location on the lagoon. The private beach and pier were ideal for playing, fishing, and relaxing. The house was lovely, clean and perfectly suited for our family. The covered porch provided needed shade for my husband and myself. We took the kids to the gulf side one time, other than that we felt perfectly happy on the lagoon. The owner was very responsive to a few questions I had during our stay. I would HIGHLY recommend the Mermaid's Lair to anyone who just wants to relax and take it easy. The sunsets were awesome! Henry was a regular visitor, especially when we were catching fish!! I can't wait to come back. It is worth the two day drive from Virginia. Thank you to Lara Hart for allowing us to enjoy your beautiful home.

Great family vacation spot!
This property is a wonderful house with so many things to do. We enjoyed fishing, crab hunting, relaxing on the porch swing, and swimming in the bay. Not to mention the beach is right across the street! Because of Covid, our family had to cancel our yearly beach trip to a large condo in Orange Beach. We booked this house instead, hoping it would allow us to enjoy a vacation while keeping our children away from the public. We enjoyed this house so much, and we all were actually happy that our big condo trip got cancelled as this was probably our best trip yet!

Everything we hoped!
My family absolutely loved the private beach, lagoon, and pier. My teenagers fished and the adults sat on the back porch and soaked it all in. We enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets and Henry as well.
I was also very pleased with the property management company. We had a small issue with a smoke alarm with a dying battery that was beeping and they came out and took care of it right away.

Great stay on the Bay
Enjoyed our first time staying bayside. The kids loved swimming in the bay. Great dock to swim and fish from. House was comfortable and had a great nook for kids to color and play. Will definitely consider renting Mermaid's Lair again. And yes there really is a "Henry". He visited us daily.

Family vacation
Mermaid’s Lair is a fabulous place for a family vacation! There was something for everyone - from young to old. The owner was wonderful and quickly took care of an appliance issue in the middle of our stay. We will definitely return and recommend it to others.

Best location ever!
We loved everything about this place. The reviews were all very accurate and we really count on those when selecting a vacation rental. The lagoon and dock were so much fun. We only ventured over to the beach a couple of times. My teenagers enjoyed kyaking, floating, and throwing a football in the water. We also caught many different kinds of fish and enjoyed feeding the local mascot. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us.

Beautiful!!
Loved the bright colores throughout the house. We had everything we needed. The beds are amazingly comfortable which is a rarity when staying away from home. The backyard is absolutely breathtaking! We spent most of our time there fishing and swimming. Loved it! Can’t wait to return next summer!

Amazing “backyard”
We had a wonderful vacation at The Mermaid’s Lair! I have been renting beach houses for the past 16 years and I must say, this is the best house we have stayed at. Ms. Hart has thought of everything to make you feel at home. The “backyard” was amazing and kept our families entertained from fishing to crabing to swimming!

Vacation Home Run
Wonderful vacation home! This house was fully stocked right down to games, books and videos! It had everything! Our extended family of 8 (ages 11 to 75) had great time ... even through the storm! The location was perfect for us ... away from the noise and crowds, but an easy drive to everything. The beautiful beach was a quick walk across the street, but the children (and adults) spent a lot of time on the private pier (fishing) and beach. Best home we've rented as a family in a long, long time! We will be coming back to Gulf Shores again and will hopefully be able to stay at Mermaid's Lair! And in the words of an 11 year old, "Winner, winner, chicken dinner!"
