About this cabin rental
This log cabin is named Whispering Water because of the scenic water fall views of the Oswegatchie River from the living room, master bed room and deck. Hardwood floors throughout. Large master bedroom with queen bed and picture windows facing the river. 2 small bedrooms, each with double bed. Air conditioning both levels. The swimming pool and deck are perched at the river's edge. The porch overlooking the pool and river is screened for sitting out at night. A 2 person hot tub on the deck is available year round. Explore the northcountry with day trips to the Adirondacks, 1000 Islands, Ottawa or Kingston Ontario. (If you plan to go to Canada, remember your passport or enhanced driver's license.) Or just kick back with a good book and relax to the sounds of the river. Lakes with public boat access are located in the area. We will provide a canoe and accessories for those would like to explore local lakes and rivers. Bring your fishing poles. Amish farms and shops are numerous in Saint Lawrence County. If you enjoy road biking, you can ride from the cabin on miles of rural country roads that are lightly traveled. We can guide you with routes from 2 to 40+ miles that wander thru the countryside. In addition, 4 colleges are located nearby: 25 miles to Canton (Canton College, Saint Lawrence University) 35 miles to Potsdam (Potsdam College, Clarkson University) Staying at Whispering Water is unique way for the family to be together during visits to the colleges for graduations or special events. It is 20 miles to Fort Drum if you are considering a visit that doubles as a vacation for the family. The property is offered for rent all four seasons. Fall colors are brilliant with many maples trees in view. During a winter retreat the pellet stove provides penetrating warmth. Winter is a wonderful time to relax and reflect. The cabin gives a deep woods feel while being close to a small town. A word of caution: Since the property is surrounded on 3 sides by rapid water and steep rock ledges that drop to the water's edge, we do not encourage visitors staying at the cabin with very young children. We absolutely fell in love with this cabin! It was the perfect retreat from the stresses of life. Ted and Jeanice are so friendly and helpful, they made it feel like home. And that view!!! We will definitely be back.

The property is absolutely beautiful and the scenery and views are amazing. The cabin is clean, cozy and stocked with every amenity and then some. You can really tell how much love Jeanice puts into being a hostess. The bathrooms were palatial and beautifully renovated. The master bed was comfy and even the bedroom had an excellent view.

Came up with family for my son’s college graduation. The house is warm and cozy, with a fairy-tale “cabin-in-the-woods” vibe. Our hosts thought of literally everything, even stocking the fridge with supplies for breakfast. I wish we’d been able to stay an extra day or two, just to continue to soak in the views and the sounds of the river.
For travelers considering this rental: it is immaculately clean; private; warm; perched on the bank of a river. Great for a romantic or family getaway, or a writer’s retreat. Hosts are kind and generous and never intrusive. Beds are comfortable, and both bathrooms have been fully updated. The sound of the river rushing over rocks is mesmerizing. This is one of the very best vacation rentals I’ve experienced - and our family is well-traveled and has used VRBO for 20 years.
Sincerest thanks to our hosts. It just doesn’t get any better.

We do not have the words to express how great everything was. The views, the rooms, the attention to detail, the cleanliness, the atmosphere, the sounds the river made. A prefect place to relax and de-stress. Jeanice and Tim thought of everything, yes everything. We have told our friends and will be planning another visit. Small things we never would have expected were provided like a snack basket by the door, a stocked refrigerator, bookshelves with local history, and a stack of split and dried firewood. The fire pit location above the river was amazing! We were able to meet the owners Jeanice and Ted who were very nice and offered tons of suggestions for area activities. If you enjoy walking there is a couple mile country road loop almost entirely along the Oswegatchie river. The fishing was decent as well.
All in all this stay ranked among our best ever and we hope to make return trips in the future. Don’t hesitate on this one - it’ll certainly leave a lasting impression.

This was a beautiful location with a lot of extras! My husband and I wanted a place where we could go and get away from the stress of every day life. This allowed us to do just that! We took a card and will be scheduling another trip to this home! So worth it!

Home Away From Home
This was an incredibly pleasant week to “get away” for my partner and I. We are two people for whom cleanliness is paramount and we were more than comfortable here with more amenities than you could imagine. The coziness of the cabin and view of the river are not done justice in the photos. Our hosts Ted and Jeanice were more than kind. If you are looking for a peaceful place away from it all where it is more than easy to cook your own meals and just exist peacefully with a beautiful view, this is your spot. Thank you!

From the fully stocked coffee bar and condiments and spices, to the puzzles and board games and dvd’s, and so much more, we hardly needed to and hardly wanted to leave! Jeanice and Ted are such gracious hosts and even brushed the snow and shoveled the snow around the property and our car for us each day! The scenery is breath taking and ever changing which makes simply looking out the window very exciting! We can’t wait to come back and enjoy the pool and hot tub!

All I can say… simply AMAZING!!!
My stay at the cabin was simply amazing and that’s an understatement! I drove 5.5 hours from Connecticut and it was worth it. The morning of my drive was stressful due to walking outside to a broken back window of my vehicle. I drove nervously with the plastic placed on there temporarily because it was shredding and holding by a thread. I also got lost for a second upon arrival. All of that stress instantly went away when I was greeted by Ted! Ted was warm, kind and inviting and pointed me to the right direction. When I arrived, I was blown away. As soon as I parked I heard the sounds of the Oswegatchie River. I followed those sounds and it led me to a gorgeous view of the river surrounding the cabin. It was simply breath-taking. I sat there taking it all in with a smile. Entering the cabin was also a breath-taking experience. It was so clean and gorgeous!!! It was also fully stocked with everything you would ever need! The pellet stove was already running when I arrived. The views of the river from the master bedroom were incredible. I spent my time meditating , writing poetry in front of the pellet stove, listening to jazz music provided by the I-pod that is already in the cabin hooked up to speakers. I just want to say that Jeanice and Ted made my stay one of the best experiences that I had in a long time. Jeanice is so kind, sweet, accommodating and informative. I can’t thank them enough! This was a Peace Retreat for me and I felt at peace by the time I left. You have to book a stay and experience an amazing time at a beautiful cabin!!! If I could rate far beyond 5 stars I would. I will definitely be booking again!!

From the moment we walked through the door, we felt welcome. The coziness of the pellet stove burning and the sound of the rapids make a relaxing atmosphere. The cabin was well stocked with all the necessities of home!

NOT too good to be true!!
I was so afraid that this property would not live up to its listing. Was I ever wrong! From the moment we walked, it was surprise after surprise. Jeanice added so many special touches to our stay that we felt more like family than guests. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to cook and serve our Thanksgiving dinner for six. Every morning was spent watching the river rapids from the master bedroom. Such a relaxing and accommodating place to stay!

From the second we stepped out of the car, we could immediately hear the hushing of the water from the nearby river. So peaceful! And it’s on its own little peninsula. The cabin was completely spotless. Seriously. The kitchen was stocked with plenty of utensils, cooking supplies, cups, spices, and there were extra goodies in the kitchen and bathrooms to help ourselves to! Very COVID friendly too-above and beyond! The keurig in the master bedroom was a nice touch and stocked with every flavor coffee you could think of! Speaking of the master, the bathroom was huge and very updated. They even had a sofa overlooking the water to cuddle up to. And the pellet stove was another cozy feature that produced so much extra heat! We enjoyed the hot tub, even during some cold and rainy weather.
All in all, don’t sleep on this property it is a hidden gem! Will definitely recommend to family and friends and hope to be back again for some R&R!

Lovely peaceful get away
I just have to say this cabin is so beautiful, CLEAN, organized and welcoming. I had such a great stay with my husband. Janice was always easy to get a hold of, super friendly and I love how neat and organized she is. The cabin has a beautiful view, right by a river. The town was small and quiet, it was a refreshing little trip for me and my husband’s honeymoon. Oh and greatly appreciated the snacks and the fridge filled with water, eggs, butter, milk and bread. It was really sweet :)
Planning to come by again in the near future, it’s absolutely beautiful!

A great house with an incredible view of the river!
It was like staying in the middle of a river, the home has an amazing view of a small waterfall, which constantly filled the house with a relaxing ambiance. Surrounded on three sides by water, with a decent amount of privacy. Hot tub and home were impeccably clean, the owner, Jeanice, clearly enjoys what she does and had music playing when we arrived, some snacks and water in the fridge, and tons of toiletry samples in the bathrooms. Home is perfectly decorated, not overdone or forced, which gives it a great, comfortable cabin feel. Close to grocery stores, hiking, and short road trip adventures. Highly recommend this home.
