The accommodation This unique and luxurious apartment is situated on the ground floor of a medieval building in the historic center and has its origins between 1100 and 1200. In the past it was part of the district of the old Convent of San Domenico, who later became old prison of San Gimignano. The main feature that makes unique and special this apartment is the presence, in the historic center, of a large private garden, equipped with everything you need to be able to eat and relax, always green and blooming thanks to the care of the owners. Guest access The apartment, romantic and beautifully furnished, can host 2 people. We can provide you a cot for a baby. It is particularly suitable for a romantic getaway for couples. It includes a large living room with full equipped kitchen, lounge area with sofa, bedroom, reading room and a luxury bathroom with large walk-in shower. To welcome you on arrival Mario and his daughter Cristina will be happy to accompany you to the apartment and give you all the information you need and every suggestion possible to spend an unforgettable holiday in San Gimignano. In the evening the town of San Gimignano, famous all over the world, still gives the evocative atmosphere of the Middle Ages with its lights dimmed and the local features which allow you to taste the typical products. Staying in the Old Town is the best you could want from a holiday, everything is at your fingertips, quaint stores for shopping, restaurants, taverns, wine bars and bar .. Remember that the center is a pedestrian zone, calm and quiet. House Rules Included in the price you will find: heating, AIR CONDITIONING, bed linen, satellite TV and WI-FI. All I can say is WOW! As other reviewers have said, I almost don’t want to write this post, because selfishly I don’t want more people to know about this place, but it deserves a 10 star rating.
First, it is probably not for everyone. The location is inside the walls of the city so it takes extra time to check in and get situated. You will be greeted by one of Mario’s extremely kind and welcoming daughters who will escort you by car into the city for a quick unload of your bags and tour of the cottage. You will then drive back out of the walls of the city to your reserved parking place. From here you have maybe a 5-10 minute walk back to the cottage. That needs to be built into you planning for each of you subsequent day trips etc but we loved how it slowed us down and set the pace for our trip. We took time to just get lost in a village that most people visit for maybe half a day.
The cottage itself is incredible. Every detail is well done, extremely clean and a seamless mix of modern comfort and ancient charm. We would have stayed all day in our little garden paradise with Mr. T the resident tortoise if there had not been so much to explore. The bed was firm but comfortable and the AC in the bedroom was a very nice treat at the end of a hot day exploring (though not always necessary as the cottage stayed pretty cool throughout the day).
Thank you Mario, Cristina and Claudia for a holiday we will never forget. We can’t wait to return!!

Fabulous apartment with a gorgeous tranquil garden. This was the final place we stayed during our visit to Tuscany and we certainly ended our holiday on a high. Would highly recommend.

Perfect Tuscany home
We could not love this house more! The house was just as pictured; unique, adorable, cozy and the perfect Tuscan feel. Cristina was so kind and helpful and the home has everything you need, including a 70 year old turtle to keep you company in the garden area. We would 100% recommend this place to everyone.

Outstanding and charming apartment with a great SanGimignano location
Loved this place. Clean, charming, with all the amenities well thought out. Great location for exploring San Gimignano, and a great base for exploring the surrounding towns. Location of free car parking was an easy 5-10 minute walk. Communication with Mario and Cristina was easy with very clear directions. They met us outside of the town and we followed them to the apartment to unload our luggage, they showed the apartment and explained how everything worked, and then we followed them to the free car parking - they were extremely gracious and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

Peaceful retreat in the middle of San Gimignano
We stayed for 5 days in this wonderful garden apartment and absolutely loved it!!!!
It is only a 2 minute walk to the center square but so peaceful that you would think you are in the middle of the country.
Everything is provided in this wonderful apartment to make your stay enjoyable.
We already miss having our morning coffee sitting in Mario's beautiful garden with the resident Mr. Turtle.

We stayed for 5 days in this wonderful garden apartment and absolutely loved it!!!!It is only a 2 minute walk to the center square but so peaceful that you would think you are in the middle of the country. A wonderful place and wonderful experience. The best value in Tuscany
The apartment is within the town and a few minutes from everything—any yet feels miles away. It is large, comfortable, beautifully designed, and has been skillfully renovated, with exceptional attention to detail. and imaginative touches everywhere. A full, functioning kitchen and a large, beautiful, very private garden/sitting area are additional pluses
Last but not the least, the owners are a delight. Cristina in particular is a marvel—she does everything, thinks of everything, and responds immediately when sought out. The only downside is that after Christina, every other owner seemed as if going through the motions. Her preparation and service were in a different league
I am ambivalent about saying much more out of plain selfishness: I want Cas del Gordano to be available the next time I am in Tuscany. Too many people knowing about it could spoil that!
But Cristina and her family deserve the acclaim, and the business. With stops in Florence, Siena, Milan, and the Cinque Terra, our time in San Gimignano was easily the most pleasurable—and Casa del Giardino was hands down the best place we stayed and by far the best value.

A Very Special Place
The Garden House in San Gimignano is a truly special place, in a beautiful city, hosted by the loveliest family. If you've never visited the city, you should. It used to be off the beaten path but now the tour buses have put it on the map. Not to worry, though, they don't take over. And La Casa del Giardino is situated away from the main tourist street, yet still close to the shops and restaurants. You won't hear the hustle and bustle of anything until you walk around the corner.
But we must say, this property is so comfortable that you may be perfectly content spending all your time in the garden with your own personal turtle (we named him Mike during our stay). We are convinced that we could easily leave everything in the US and move in and not miss walk in closets, big screen televisions, or a big kitchen. The bed is very comfortable, the bathroom is surprisingly large, and having a washing machine is a nice addition (we used it three times). The entire space is just delightful and we already miss it.
Mario lovingly takes great care of the garden and it shows. We had coffee every morning and wine every evening on the terrace. The addition of air conditioning certainly made things even more pleasant.
We felt so at home that we invited our hosts to dinner, like we would if we lived in the city. To our great surprise we were the first to do so! We encourage you to consider doing the same because Cristina and her husband, Marco, are delightful and we thoroughly enjoyed a great meal, conversation, and wine (thanks to the expert knowledge of Marco!).
Some advice on what to do while in the area... visit Pienza and Radda in Chianti for sure. You can rent a car if you don't mind being passed on the road like you're standing still and missing turns because you're overwhelmed by the scenery. But consider a tour so you can enjoy the wine and not worry about driving. You can catch a regularly scheduled bus to Siena and other nearby cities, too.
We could write so much more about our experience in San Gimignano and La Casa del Giardino... if you're looking for someplace comfortable with every necessary convenience, quiet yet close to everything, and the added bonus of a pet turtle to chase you around the garden... this is the place for you.
And invite your hosts to dinner... you'll thank me later!

Beautiful Garden Retreat
My wife and I stayed here for ten days and absolutely loved it. The apartment is clean, quiet and comfortable. It has been updated with great attention to detail and with an obvious pride of ownership. It has all the modern conveniences but retains its rustic charm. The private garden is marvellous and a welcome retreat after a long day of site-seeing. Mario and his daughter Christina couldn’t be more helpful. They met us at Mario’s brothers house, where there is free parking, and took our luggage to the apartment. Christina know all the best restaurants and cafes. Our favourites were Le Veechie Mura, Bel Soggiorno and San Martino, 26.

Stay within the walls
Christina and Mario could not have been more welcoming! Due to cell phone problems, we called from the designated gas station rather than calling ahead. No problem, they were there within 20 minutes! The apartment and yard were beyond beautiful! We even got to see the turtle on the 1st day. SG is very easy to walk around. To be able to walk back to our apartment whenever we wanted was appreciated. You also are given a free parking space just outside the walls. Christina's restaurant ideas were superb. This apartment cannot be beaten!

A flowered oasis it definitely is - wonderful place to stay
We had a fabulous 9 days in San Gimignano staying at Casa Del Giardino. From the moment Christina and Mario picked us up in Poggibonsi ( a town nearby) to being introduced to Marios beautiful Casa and his tortoise the stay has been marvellous. The apartment is beautifully decorated with all the appliances you need to make for a comfortable stay. It is in a great location. The bed is super comfortable. The garden is extra special. The recommendations for dining were excellent -especially La Vecchia Mura which is nearby.

Superbe place !
To start Mario and Christina have been perfect hosts. Warm welcome and very helpful. The apartment is charming, very clean and functional. The bathroom is new. The bed very comfortable. Nice place to sit outside and enjoy the sun. Perfect location and a wonderful town. We could not have been more pleased with our choice. Thank you to Mario and his daughter Christina.

Tatsächlich eine kleine Oase
Wunderschöne Wohnung in authentischer toskanischer Einrichtung und wundervollem idyllischem und sehr gepflegtem Garten. Die Küche ist sehr gut ausgestattet, mit Allem was man braucht. Trotz der sehr zentralen Lage, ist es absolut ruhig in Wohnung und Garten. Besser kann man kaum wohnen. Einziges Manko: man muss sich gegen die vielen Schnaken schützen. Die Vermieter sind unglaublich liebenswürdig und äußerst hilfsbereit. Es war eine Freude sie kennengelernt zu haben.

Amazing & spacious home in the heart of Tuscany! We'll be staying here again, and for much longer.
First, thank you again Mario and Cristina!!! This was my first time using VRBO and I couldn't have been happier with the results. Mario and his daughter were very easy to work with, they communicated all the details upfront, and were extremely helpful in directions getting to/from San Gimignano. My girlfriend and I had rented a car in Florence and made the short drive to San-G. Cristina had given us perfect directions and met us where we could park our car while we stayed in town - San Gimignano is pedestrian only, so no driving unless you have a permit to get to a hotel/residence. Mario took our baggage to the apartment while Cristina gave us a walking tour of town on our way. It is a beautiful little town that we look forward to visiting again many times. Cristina had maps of the city and the surrounding wine region for us which made getting around very easy. She also gave great restaurant recommendations! Definitely eat at Le Vecchie Mura - the food and view are equally fabulous.
This is a first floor apartment under Mario's home, and it's the perfect setting for staying in Tuscany. Old stone archways, a quaint garden, and a bedrock wine cellar add to the enchantment of your stay. The bed was quite comfortable, and the bathroom was modern with a good sized shower. The kitchen was well stocked; and quick access to local meat, cheese and wine stores made for great snacks or picnics.
We were able to visit wineries all over Tuscany while staying here, and I'm sure other destinations like the Cinque Terre would be easy to access as well; if you're driving.
We stayed in several cities while in Europe but this was by far our favorite - and we should have stayed longer!

I want to Live there forever
This apartment is one of the nicest places that we have ever stayed. First the host, Mario, communicated with us with all the needed information ahead of time and arranged for us to check in early. Second he and his daughter (very fluent in English) took us (my husband and I) to the apartment where they explained everything plus told us about the area. Of special interest to us was wineries and Mario had a wonderful map showing all the local ones (a lot).
The two of us stayed 8 nights and were very comfortable. This is one place that is actually nicer than the photos. The bathroom and kitchen are both modern, functional and easy to work in. We were able to enjoy the garden for one day (it was rainy most of the week) and loved it. The washer worked well.
The town of San G is a great place to tour Tuscany from. It is close to many other destinations. As you are truly inside the city walls you easily walk to one of many excellent restaurants and enjoy the wine with dinner and not worry about driving.
We both could easily see ourselves living here for a year

Mario's Apartment
This apartment is beautiful. Mario, his wife and his daughter were very friendly and helpful. The apartment is very conveniently located inside the wall. Mario helped get our car to our parking space outside the wall. The apartment itself is perfect for two people with a nice garden and laundry facilities. There is a bit of a language barrier with Mario, but his daughter Christina helped with that. Upon arrival Mario provided a bottle of wine. Very nice. I would definitely recommend this apartment.

Mario's Lovely Apartment
Mario and his daughter Cristina were very friendly and communicated with us in a very timely fashion while we planned for our trip to Italy. Even with a bit of a language barrier, we were always able to communicate and have our questions answered. They were like "friends" meeting us as we arrived into town, helping us with our designated parking space and then personally bringing us to the apartment. They stayed just long enough to show us how to use any equipment, answer any questions, and they also provided a map of the town. The apartment was clean and beautiful, with a nice kitchen and bathroom. The yard and garden were so nice to relax and enjoy a glass of wine together! The town of San Gimignano was our base for 2 weeks! It's a lovely, clean, safe city to stay at and we really enjoyed having a place to come home to after taking day trips to other cities and attractions. We plan to recommend Mario's apartment to all of our friends and relatives!! We LOVED it!
