Beautiful surroundings and really nice, stylish property. I guess the photos is what lures people to go there.
This is the first negative review I ever wrote but there's many a reason in case of this property.
There are two parts to this hotel, a 5-star palace and a 3-star part, which isn't obvious from Booking.com. We were staying in the 5-star palace. Rooms were very stylish but didn't meet the requirements for a 5-star hotel. No A/C (a really hot summer), a choice between a super hot room on top floor or a room without a fridge.
The hotel restaurant was the worst I had a displeasure to go out to. Food was really good though. So why do I complain? Mostly about how unprofessional the staff was. There we were, first waiting about 10 minutes to get a menu card (forget about getting seated!) after which I went and brought 2 cards myself. Then we waited about 15 minutes for the waiter. That's fine, we were going through the menu, carefully making our selection, whetting our appetites. Finally, after even more wait, a waiter approaches our table and says with a straight face there are only 3 (three!) dishes available because of a wedding reception on the premises. No apologies offered. (To be fair: There was an Indian menu too with about 7 dishes so we resorted to making a selection from the menu.) On top of that, tea selection was limited to etc. You see the pattern. While waiting interminably for the food to arrive, we were sneak-peeking at other guests and noticed most everybody went through the identical routine.
For the afternoon meal, we brought books so we could kill the time. The selection was even more limited this time and the wait - even longer. We were shocked observing an elderly couple waiting for 30 minutes to see a waiter while 2 waiters and a manager were attending two prominent politicians, refilling their glasses etc. Sounds incredible, right?
I complained when checking out and informed the staff that I'm going to publish a scathing review but they didn't seem to care (or weren't trained to handle this sort of situation).
