let’s simply say neither of us would go back there
the food was wonderful especially the breakfast ( did need side plates as had to butter toast on a serviette) room although newly decorated was uncomfortable really needs new mattresses as hard and sloped always felt like rolling out of it! the 2nd bed was not made up as requested but was soon made when a lovely lady arrived back to work the room was really hot and could not open window took two of us to open in morning and had to prop open with a book ( yes a beautiful old building but that should be recognised as a problem)
in above !! only positive was the location and excellent food I believe the owner’s sister was on holiday, so really was sadly lacking in a welcome and he was in need of help to get things running smoothly but really needed more staff to take some of the pressure off himself

Wonderful anniversary stay at The George and Dragon, Aysgarth.
We stayed here for 1 night to celebrate our 3 year anniversary. We were made very welcome from arrival by Ashley the landlord. Two of my favourite ales on pump, Black Sheep & Theakstons, along with a few of my favourite malt whiskies. Our room was perfect with a four poster bed and other complimentary pieces and we had a lovely bright and spacious bathroom with a double headed shower and the view of the dales was even a pleasure from the bathroom. We had an excellent evening meal here, which had dishes that were not usually found on most pub menus. ( Sticky beef ribs. And chicken, prawn and chorizo paella. Our starters were also delicious, deep fried brie and creamy garlic. mushrooms with bacon and toasted soldier's 😋. We had a very enjoyable evening in the friendly. Cosy atmosphere of the pub. Ashley was very efficient and accommodating even asking what songs we would like yo listen to. Our full English breakfast was cooked yo our preference and was delicious, we were given a good choice of fresh fruit, cereals, creme fraiich. Refills of coffee given on request. I can highly recommend The George and Dragon to anyone seeking accommodation in Aysgarth. It is also an excellent base for Aysgarth Falls, Bolton Castle, and many of the other beautiful villages of the area,, Leyburn, Reeth, , West Witton. Thankyou so much, we will be back ASAP!
Having to come home! Leaving the beautiful scenery and peace behind.

Poor
Food served in the evening was lovely and the host was too Room was clean - but definitely not 4 star as you recommend?
Reception to the property was poor - the proprietor was less than accommodating and dressed appalling to receive customers as she was dressed in the same dirty outfit as she has appeared in the bar the night before, serving breakfast and checkout on Sunday morning!!! Definitely not 4 star - more like 2 stars and very disappointed - had I seen this property before I would definitely not have booked- cannot believe booking.com have this property as 4 stars ? Will definitely not go on your recommendation again !!!!!

we booked 2 nights for new year, left before breakfast on New Year’s Eve! total
nothing, don’t waste your money
we arrived at 1:30 pm and the place looked like it had closed down, very run down! turns out it doesn’t open until 2 pm! never a good sign! looks nothing like the pictures on website! inside was no better. The room was dated to say the least, tiny tv, no mirror, filthy shower head, cob webs and more than 1 skirting board hanging off. the staff were nice enough but this place needs a complete overhaul and definitely not worth the price we paid which was none refundable even though we only stayed the one night as couldn’t stay another!

Comfy bed, amazing food, doesn't open until 4pm
The bed was lovely and comfortable. Bright white sheets and bath towels. Bathroom was perfect with a roll top bath and separate shower. Lovely snug little bar, made to feel very welcome by the bar staff, who were very accomodating and chatty. Food was really good. Definitely recommend a meal here and breakfast was spot on.
Room was a little basic, as in the tea/coffee facilities didn't have any of those little extras, such as sweetener, hot chocolate, biscuits etc. There was one small shampoo/conditioner and a small bar of soap in the bathroom. It wouldn't have been enough for 2 people if you'd not brought anything. The pub doesn't actually open until 4pm, which is the same time as check in. I was getting a little worried as we had parked the car there all day, and were back around 3.30pm and presumed I would be able to get a drink in the pub while waiting for check in time, but it was all closed up and no sign of life. I phoned and got no answer and when I called again, a lady answered and was a little abrupt, and told me check in wasn't until 4pm. It might be worth mentioning this in the advertising details, as I wasn't expecting to not be able to get in the building until 4pm. I had begun to worry that I had booked somewhere that had gone out of business. My partner then started checking reviews on Trip Advisor and they also referred to a rude lady, who they had encountered. I then became very concerned about how my stay may turn out. I must point out, our stay was very comfortable and the staff in the evening and the food in the restaurant were great, but it had started off on a bad foot, due to the pub being initially closed and the blunt/rude response when I called.
